Tomix - New Releases

Recommended Posts

HS and NGI both have a nice overview of all Tomix and Tomytec products just announced and some products in development:

Apart from the things already mentioned in the previous posts, the HS blog also shows that Tomix will be doing Finetrack turnouts with synthetic sleepers.

Somehow that announcement of the Hankai 161 got a hold of me. I think I may start to develop a slight tram fever of the ancient kind.

Hmmm, a revised TM-TR01 tram power chassis, with "new power" according to the Hobby Search description. I wonder what the details are on this.

Excited for the Shuttle Liner containers, I can finally do a whole train. I like the two restaurants too but lack a place for them...maybe I'll eventually find one.

Oh I missed that at first look.  Although the 106 with tail light has never come out of its box except for testing.  Once I found out they were from Hokkaido, I was like yuk! haha

When I saw the new Kantō Railway trains pop up on Twitter, I literally screamed at my computer screen. I think I have it bad... Maybe the fact also counts that I was planning on making these for a long time, but kept holding it off. The good decision it seems. I predict Tomytec will be doing single car DMU as well soon afterwards, which I hope very very much.

If I start buying these Kanto Railway cars.  I'll blame Toni. :)

Good. I need more victims!

It could always keep the Koki 107's with W18F containers you have company as that's where they're from

What?

Any idea why a 6-car non-motorised tomytec train would cost 9000 yen?  The recent Osaka Subway only cost 7800.... http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10346747

Looks like they didn't apply the discount yet when at the time you looked. 9000 yen is Tomytec's suggested retail price, but practically all shops sell their trains at a lower price. At HS it's now for pre-order for 7650 yen.

Even at those prices.  You have to spend 400-500 on pantagraphs, 2.5 x 800-1000 on trailer parts and 2800-3200 on a motor.  A working rolling unit will cost 13,350.

I mean there must be a market out there for these stuff because they wouldn't release them otherwise.  But I struggle within myself to see for and extra 3000-4000 yen, others are released with working lights and higher quality finishes.

I totally agree with that, but that's not what I was pointing out there. ;)

As with most Tomytec models, there's simply not a complete finished model available elsewhere. The only other option for this train is a Greenmax kit that is 17,000 yen, that you still have to assemble yourself. The GM kit is also much more expensive than the Tomytec model, even with all accessories in total.  I'm sure that's why Tomytec took the dive on this one. I often feel like most Tomytec releases are intended for a certain market segment that is not served beforehand. It's not like Kato and Tomix competing over the exact same train, but releasing a train that would probably never be released at all if Tomytec didn't. They know they can get the money here. And it's up to you to decide whether you get it or whether you wait for a complete Tomix/Kato/MA/Greenmax model. :)
