I've had 104s and 106s before. But sold them on. The lack of variety in the running numbers gets me every time. If I don't find more 104s and 106s in the short term. They will probably suffer the same fate.

Hopefully the Greenmax EVO kits will solve part of that problem depending on how many running numbers they give whith those kits, also the Tomix Koki 106 with working taillights is supposed to have alternative numbers, I suppose it's a case of wait and see. One thing that is definite is that I won't be purchasing the Kato Koki 104's ever again, I am far from impressed with the overall detail compared to the Tomix versions, the lack of steps and the duplication of container numbers are big let downs, especially when compared to the Kato 106's which are very nice models.

Thanks Gordon for the links.

 

That 227 has been photographed well, in particular the shot taken on an inner curve so the end of the following carriage is almost touching each other, perhaps an attempt to hide the large gap created by the rapido (?) couplers... Definitely one thing that spoils the Tomix commuter cars for me is the need to spend extra $$ to upgrade them with the tight locking couplings when you're already paying good money for a 3 or 4 car set.

What is the difference between the newer Twilight Express cars and the older 3 part sets?  Just a different cruise train consist that has been running around since the Osaka-Sapparo service stopped?

I haven't seen anything to suggest new car tooling or otherwise. Aside from the 8 car limited edition set there is also a 6 car set designed as an add-on for the EF81 3 car starter sets. Unless I'm missing something, I think it's just a repackaging of the current 3 part sets.

 

If you already have the original consist (10 car) you can make the new 8 car consist. Just need a DD51-1000 or the new EF65 Twilight Express.

Looking at Tomix 700-3000 shinkansen.. I am interested with the coupler.. what's the name of that coupler?

 

I am sure it's still using powered coupler feature but in different way unlike most of the new Tomix shinkansens.

 

But personally, I like the way Tomix produce that 700-3000. If they also did that for some other models, I am sure they will look nice..

Looks like a TS coupler to me, which is one they haven't used on Shinkansen for quite a while. I think the only shinkansen I have with TS coupler is the 800 series.

The one with gold hand rails mainly.  But they use an array of DE10s depending on the cruises location.

I see.. if this is really prototypical, so we only need to choose the correct plate numbers or other few details and we can have the official DE10 pulling the Seven Stars train.. :D this is the first step before the model is finally released. haha

And now they do a re-release without it?

Yap. I'm curious too, as I was expecting a 700 series to get released with power couplers... But then again, the 700 series is going to be retired from service soon so chances might be little...

 

I'm missing a 700 series too, but without the power coupler, Kato really seems to be a little more 'attractive', with the optional 'Ambitous Japan' decal and printed carriage numbers...If it was with the tilting mechanism and printed destination boards that would be most ideal ~~

Although perhaps we can replace this with power coupler or other coupler though.. but I was wondering if Tomix would be success in selling this 700-3000 series..  Definitely Kato model is more attractive.. but instead of 700, i would choose the Doctor Yellow.. more beautiful..
