Tomix - New Releases

Recommended Posts

The price difference is probably because of those fall prevention thingies in the front, a lot of R&D put into those.

:) Is this kind of detail to be added by the customer, or will it be installed from the factory?  I suppose it could be automated but if it requires handwork that'll cost money.

I've noticed that Tomix do not have factory installed TN couplers for any of their comtemporary train models and I don't think any of them are in the HG category either like the 227 for instance.

Correct.  To add the couplers, you can get a 6 pack sets for 1500 yen.  So 250 yen each.  The 6 pack is enough for a 4 car consist.

It would cost 5000 yen for example to replace a full 11 car set of Yamanote line cars.

Tomix standard stock may have TNs on the end cars only (or just imitations) with rapido everywhere else, while HG stock usually has them everywhere. (train collection stock has imitations only and can be upgraded to rapido or TN)

Precisely. Which is kinda the downside to Tomix.

I posted a comparison photo sometime back with the difference in spacing between the 3 models, standard Rapido for Tomix & MA, Kato standard couplers and Tomix TN couplers. In ranking, the TN has the smallest spacing, but costs quite a fair bit to install, especially when the trains get long like the E231-500....

Kato has the standard ones which do not need to be replace and will still look better than Tomix or MA's standard rapido couplers... With that, I find myself slightly switching over to Kato on some models, especially those that are commuter trains since they tend to be longer; like a E231-1000, or a E233-0, or a E233-5000 etc that are usually around 10 cars long...

That 200 series is a must-have for certain.

Quick question about the upcoming Twilight Express release.  What does 98956 contain if 98955's 8 cars correctly represent the Twilight Express' current formation?

I was wondering about this too... Perhaps an optional upgrade to switch the twilight to its original formation?  :P

Pre-ordered the 200 series. it is a MUST have. That 100 series nose with double decker cars in sleek green is too good to miss... But I did not go for the full consist though, just the 6-car basic with 3-car add-on... Which means I will only have 1 double decker...

It appears 98955 is the correct 8 car current formation.

98956 is going to be a 6 car set, designed as the add-on for Twilight Express 3 Car Basic Set (92459) or SD Basic Set (90172) in order to make the current 8 car formation.

I'll most certainly be picking up the EF65 in Twilight Express colors but am torn about getting the 8 car set.  I already have the original 10 car formation from Kato.. ugh.. decisions decisions..

It looks like we are going to have a Bus collection 20! YES! Looks like a 96MC long wheel base, but I am so glad a Toei bus is in it ~~  :P

Interesting! Thr bus collection 20 has at least one I'm interested in, which is the Kanto Jidousha bus. It's an Utsunomiya based company with a line to Mooka as well. The cute 90s livery kind of sold me there.

I think they just used an old picture, since it's using the old brown track as well.

This is true, I would hope it would have power couplers!
