bill937ca
Kato 50th anniversary book has just arrived, 3 weeks after the order, that is OK as it was posted by SAL. I ordered it with another publication, N Gauge Plus. The book is in Japanese (the title of the chapters are in English also), hard cover, has an excellent quality and lot of pictures about old and new Kato models. konyvek1.jpg I got the book too. It mentions at the back that there is a simplified English translation that will be available in the US and European countries as a supplement document. See page 175. 1 Link to comment
serotta1972
Still expanding the Shinkansen collection. Tomix Shinkansen 100 series Fresh Green Kodama livery C5v5XJ8XQAEa69n.jpgC5v5YMLWYAAZ8ZB.jpg Thanks to its previous owner it came complete with interior lighting installed. MicroAce class 941 emergency relief train C5v55i-WMAEOjKT.jpg @cteno Man, I wish Tomytec would do a Dekotora truck collection. Good stuff Sucia! I had the Series 0 and 100 Fresh Green Shinkansen for a moment - they were used and weren't to my standards, they would've been okay I guess as display items but I like to run my trains. I hope to find them someday or that they are re-released. Link to comment
JR 500系
Can't wait :) Best delivery ever! is that a national pass or a regional pass? 1 Link to comment
Suica
@serotta This set was actually re-released in 2011 featuring all-wheel pickup. Guess that would be something for you? Edited March 1, 2017 by Suica Link to comment

JR 500系
National. 7day pass. Lovely... they changed the outer sleeve! it used to look like this: just got time to post another parcel from a forum member... wonderful set, and I am glad to be able to get a chance to own this! 6 Link to comment
JR 500系
Another small parcel from pre-orders from Ami... Man DHL only took 2 days for this to arrive at my doorstep! Loving DHL more and more! two of the items here are for testing, like the Greenmax coreless motor is for the Huis Ten Bosch, and the Kato E233-3000 2car addon set for the tokaido line is actually for the Tomix E233-3000 camera car set. I thought it looked weird for a E233-3000 to run as a 3-car set so why not make it right to a 5-car set? :) Blame the Kyushu poison.... 6 Link to comment

The 5 car sets only have one. Link to comment
enodenlover
I just got the TM-03 power unit and pantograph necessary to get the first of my two Tomytec "mules" ( the brown and cream one ) up and running. The cream and orange one will just have to wait its turn. Link to comment

Yap, that's the tricky parts~~ I have seen project converting tomix rapido couplers to Kato couplers, so I think this can work. As for the pantographs, i'm not exactly very disturbed by that, as it will take a true rail fan to discover that the pantographs are wrong ~ :P 1 Link to comment

I keep all the original packaging materials at my office in a little corner, I think I have enough packing materials to run an online shop. Actually I've sent quite a few packages out to Germany, England, Singapore and domestically. :) 1 Link to comment
Kiha66
Some foam came the other day for the layout, and a package from plazajapan. I'm very impressed with plaza's packing ability, they managed to fit a lot of stuff into a tiny box! Mostly layout things, but some tiny container cars too. I also got some LEDs from china, only about 10 usd for 150 of them, I'm planing to use them to light up all the buildings on the layout! They are crazy bright, but some resistors should bring down the brightness. I plan to put a potentiometer on each building so the brightness can be adjusted individually. I've started on the engine house, and am working on installing the lighting now. I'll post some pictures in the next few days. 8 Link to comment
cteno4
Kiha, Score! You may want to add a resistor to those leds to cut the current some and dim them as they are going to be really bright in structures. These will need a 1/4 watt resistor to cut the 12v current down to the three leds. Jeff Link to comment

I'm actually quite amazed at how much stuff they packed into one box! I was under the impression that Plaza japan wasn't so great with shipping esp their shipping charges, but that box has certainly changed my impression about that! Link to comment
JR 500系
Just got delivered 2 parcels: The first is from Ami, which I personally call it 'The Tobu Box'! We can see why in the following few pictures: That Sky Train.... Drools! It's really beautiful, and I am so going to change those couplers.... I love those 8000 series too, their wide variety of liveries makes me excited to join them together to run! :) Next is a box from Buyee aka Yahoo Auctions, which is the one I am very excited about... I bought a lot of Japanese air.... massive big box which occurred additional shipping costs... 3 separate parcels, although 2 of them is coming from the same seller, which seems to be a store... (Book Off) I love how a single bookcase can be packed so nicely in a box! The 783 Hyper Arike... the condition is so beautiful, it's almost a pity to want to tear it out for its parts for my Huis Ten Bosch... A cheap Kato Portram that I got lucky and won... And now, the item that made me the most excited.... The Odakyu 60000 MSE, brand new! A very nice collective medal is also included... Dang it sure is a keeper! Sweet... I finally got it! Now my 60000 MSE is complete! Really beautiful, only second to the 50000 VSE... :) Glad my hard work scorching the internet paid off by finding this gem brand new with a nice collectable gift, and at a reasonable cost which is far better than the inflated prices on Yahoo Auctions... :) Edited March 4, 2017 by JR 500系 12 Link to comment

Guest keio6000
just arrived from japan: Greenmax's 4-car Odakyu 1000 in (red) Hakone livery. At JPY 17000 (discounted) this was still I think the most expensive 4-car set I ever bought (though i bought some 6 and 8 car sets that were more expensive on a per car basis). It takes a very special set for my to take my wallet at all these days, but this was on my must have list. I also have the regular Odakyu 1000 8-car set from GM, so I more or less knew what to expect. As much as we commuter emu nerds love us some GM these days, their releases are the odd mix of really great and somewhat crap. the good: it looks the part, with superb overall body finish and tampo. unique subject that nobody except maybe MA would otherwise handle head destination signs are already installed and look professional coreless motor? i dont know. i just collect these things, don't run - but i think gm is including coreless motors in all new releases.. right? the floor has allowances for TN couplers like most non-kato releases have. the ok and/or weird the underside equipment is the kit parts. i guess it's ok, but it looks much "cheaper" than MA Kato or Tomix. the small (4-car) box opens up like a reverse japanese book (ie western 'back cover' is the front). the bad like MA, include only a standard rapido coupler. really inexcusable for models of this price. requires you to install the front handrails yourself. this is VERY HARD. they give you twice as many as you need, but still it is very hard. totally inexcusable given the price. windshield wipers should be pre-attached photoetch. instead they are just scratches in the windshields. the side destination stickers are not attached AND AREN'T EVEN INCLUDED you have to buy them separately. criminal. poor instruction paper with no history or anything just looks like instructions from a kit. in short, i am more or less happy with it, but am no longer giving GM a pass. their stuff is now too expensive to let them get away with the crap they have been pulling. it's time for them to provide better value for their customers who want their finished range. does anybody still buy GM 'economy' kits, anyway? ToniBabelony
Finally ordered my Greenmax Tōbu 634 Series Skytree Train with four Tomix JC25 TN couplers to put on my Tōbu 6050 Series. I scheduled them to arrive on Friday morning, just after my busy busy week is over. 1 Link to comment

Having acquired them I will now have to convert the couplers to something slightly less unrealistic than the default Arnold ones, I'm not usually that bothered but the gap between wagons looks bigger than it should be. 2 Link to comment

Heh, I wish. Which couplers will you use? I have the same gap problem with my Tomix Kokis but I'm unsure what kind of couplers I should replace them with. 1 Link to comment
