What a wonderful model!

I wish I could've used it on our large layout last weekend but someone at DHL loaded it onto the wrong car and drove it around Berlin for 3 days...

A bit too far off for me... :(

@Medusa

I planning with some other members a meeting this spring near Wuerzburg.

@Suica

Too bad your train was not at the meeting

Buyee is a horrible addiction to have, and I think mine is growing!  $20 got me an older run of kato's EF 65 500 locomotive, but still a beautiful model!  Shipping was probably more than the train.  I just ordered a kato EF 62 as well, I think I may have a problem.

I wonder why tomix did such an unorganized cars arrangement on their urethane? Unlike Kato and other normal tomix 500 Kodama sets ?

I have been wondering about this as well and I have absolutely no idea.

Two packages over the last week, one from Katoftw from down under. The 50th Aniv. Koki-107 set, a Koki-106, and the lighted Koki-50000 along with some more containers. Other was from Nariichi-san, the 500 Type EVA, Girls Und Panzer KR DMU set, Resort Shirakami DMU, EF-81 Rainbow, EH-500, triple headlight cold region DD-51, a single crossover, some old JOT containers, and a Family Mart.

i've also tried to figure out the reason the cars were out of order in the Eva set and the only thing I can come up with is the factory making the inserts goofed and to not push back the ship date (which on this would have been a big deal) Tomix decided it was just better to ship it with the insert showing the proper car order...even though the car numbers are printed on top.

On a slightly realted note, did JR Hokkaido run the cold weather DD-51s without the Hokkaido paint scheme on Hokutosei/Cassiopeia/ Twilight Express trains in winter weather?

Yeah me too... I mean, they did manage to place the previous versions of the 500 Kodama such as the 500-7000, the plarail car, the Kansengar car, the 40th anniversary kansengar car etc. so they technically shouldn't have a problem getting the Eva into the box in the same way..

The recent Buyee box from Yahoo Auctions turned up yesterday, which was amazing cause they charged me EMS but it was actually SAL, which explains why it took 10 days... zzzz..

Anyhow, I think this purchase left me with a sour heart... probably one of my worst (and most impulsive buy) ever...

The external box

3 envelopes inside from 3 different sellers...

First we have the E1 new colour. This set is ok, the lights work great and the motor is smooth... I wanted this as I wanted the lights and motor for my old E1 colour which could neither run nor have their lights light up...

Next we have the 783 Huis Ten Bosch/ Midori... now I really love the colours on this set, and I find it very beautiful and attractive, and I also rode on this train so I do have some special connections to it... The thing is, the missing front glass is getting to me a HUGE way... wishing there was a way to replace this.

The set was listed as junk, and I took my chances so I couldn't complain... But this set is really near to junk... very jerky motor action, directional lights that barely light up due to poor connections, the directional lights also light up both head and tail lights on two of the 4 ends, and on the Midori end the bottom fog lamps are not lighting.... the wheels are really dirty (I am guessing long running times) and the default MA couplers look like crap... Probably my worse purchase ever, but like I said, I took my chances so...

The last one was the set which started this purchase... I already have the exact same set, and I only entered a bid for fun and never expected to win, cause it was cheap and had interior lights fitted... So when I won I was like... Well, I guess it will go to the sales thread pretty soon...

Actually I just read more about it.

It seems that Tomix went with the urethane inlay of the 16-car Nozomi because it's softer and more spacious to protect the rather delicate paintjob.

I own the same Micro Ace 255 series set, and I acquired it from Yahoo Japan Auctions the same way.  Seemed cheap, entered a bid just for fun, forgot about it...and then a few days later, oops, I won.

It's not a bad model (and yours has some improvements: lights and aftermarket couplers), but now that Kato has released their version, it's no wonder that the older Micro Ace sets aren't in demand.

Come to think of it, I should probably offload mine on eBay one of these days.

I've rescued worse. Really not that difficult! Start by dismantling the power car chassis, clean everything and reassemble. The motor should have a tiny drop of oil on each bearing as should the worm drives on the bogies. Then a good long run. Clean the rest of the wheels and pickups too, I find lighter fluid and a paper towel works well on really grungy wheels.

If both head and tail lights are coming on then there's probably a dud diode on the light pcb. Do they do it in both directions or only one?

I had both problems with an old Kato 117 Series, after some remedial work it runs as well as the brand new 115 Series I bought recently, despite lacking flywheels and having quite a few miles on it!

Two magazines finally arrived:

  • N gauge +2 - my opinion, this is not so good as #1 but it is still ok. This magazine is published in a A5 format which is nice.
  • JAM 2016 magazine - a very nice one and it came with a DVD! Probably the Jam 2015 magazine also had a DVD but I bought a second hand one so I am not sure.

Cheers,

Pre-ordered a Kato Steam Locomotive of Fun Town set from HS. I already have a Chibi-den tram set and a Chibi-Totusu steeple cab set so why not?

Bill that sounds like a credit card marketing line, "so why not"

Picked up my first US Loco a nice Intermountain SD45-2, It was 2nd had but at £46 can't complain. So now my layout is having a New Mexico section to go with my Akihabara and London parts =p.
