ToniBabelony
Just before new year, another book. Again not Japan related, but for 3D printing production in Japan. Less detailed, but lots of information and illustrations nonetheless. Yes, a book on trains in a train on free wifi from the railway company. The last one is still rare in Japan (and maybe for the good anyhow). 2 Link to comment

Pauljag900
Hi Robert ,I have mine running on the double viaduct track and I have controllers that have a half power setting which I have mine set on,purely to to try and keep it in scale really as my layout is fairly small compared to some and do nt want it flying around in 5 seconds ha ha.Mind you it's still pretty fast on half power! It seems pretty happy running on this track and that speed to be honest, only had it on full power a couple of times and it did nt de rail, but it was only a short time.I like to be able to see them going around to be honest and on full power I was getting dizzy ha ha, Regards Paul 1 Link to comment

Guest keio6000
MIcroAce Toei Mita 6300 got on ebay for a good-not-great price. Got the 'long skirt' version as shown here. While it's hard to get too excited about the Toei Mita line, that puts me one step closer to my goal of having at least one representative set for each of the major Tokyo subway lines. Only the Namboku line now remains. Unfortuantely the namboku purchase requires the most nose holding as the 9000s are ugly and from an n scale standpoint, expensive. Hokutosei
My Christmas auto-gift is not japanese... but is a very special model for me. After a long time trying to get it, I finally got my Ibertren model of spanish UT600 EMU. A very short edition (spanish market is soooooo reduced, specially regarding N scale models....) and a very loved one for train fans. I'm so happy! I made sooooo many trips in my childhood on those plastic seats... 8 Link to comment

JR 500系
But the toreiyu will not run on normal shinkansen track and with slower speed too unfortunately. Hi Robert46, actually the Toreiyu only runs on non-shinkansen, i.e. conventional tracks between Fukushima & Shinjo... Also if you take the train from Fukushima, it does not depart from shinkansen platform but from conventional platform, so technically it is not considered as a shinkansen ~~ :P Amazing SAL dropped me two parcels together when they were sent like 1 week apart, one was posted on 14 Dec while the other was on 21st Dec. One contained a box from the Dec sales from HS that was truly amazing: A good haul as I managed to get 3 items that I would love; the 211-3000 series, the Torm lights (cannot have enough lights) and the missing Tomix bridge to my layout, at amazing half prices! The Kato Italian restaurant was a bonus ~~ The other box contained more stuff for layout building. With these, I can actually start to run my trains. FINALLY! :) 3 Link to comment

LoL with yours, half power setting is the best option I guess and of course avoiding you from getting dizzy.. I heard that it is not recommended for some MicroAce motors (also for their shinkansen models) to run on full throttle, the motor may sound like aircraft jet engine.. :) Hi Robert46, actually the Toreiyu only runs on non-shinkansen, i.e. conventional tracks between Fukushima & Shinjo... BTW, fantastic you got a lot of Tomix stuffs at half prices and I noted the items conditions are still in nice conditions.. great buys though and can't wait to see these items to be placed on your layout.. 1 Link to comment

cteno4
Ma can be a bit rough and I've found some not lubed well at all and require a little tuning and also some break in time. Well woth it to get those unique models! I've never thrown up my hands at the running of a ma train (I have dozens) have always gotten them running decently. Cheers Jeff Link to comment

cteno4
So a fun tool came in the mail today! It's an etched metal bending tool. I've been looking at these for a while and was about to get one of the standard ones where you screw down the clamp on your piece then slide a razor under the exposed piece and bend it up. But then looking around I found this uber cool little bending brake that, wait for it, is made of etched metal itself! It's very cool and simple design that is well executed. It's called PhotoFold by paragraphix. Bout $25 which is cheaper than most of the traditional etched metal folders. Works very easily, slide your piece in, hold down on the top clamp piece and lift the folding side. The clamp piece reverses for either one long edge or a series of progressively smaller tounges. Really is just a mini mental brake! You can use a binder clamp on the clamp piece if you want it held more strongly like if doing a long fold. Cheers Jeff 3 Link to comment
NXCALE
Nxscale, No worries on Sal shipping, it's super reliable. May take up to 3+ weeks if a larger package and this time of year as I think the whole customs to postal gets backed up and Sal seems to be get low priority in the us, but standard is right around 2 weeks here. I've had hundreds shipped and never one go missing or badly damaged, except one get soaked along the way (but contents survived). Not many order magazines as ist noted as they usually cost near or more the cost of the magazine to ship even Sal... Makes it expensive. I was looking at a few at hlj.com the other day and they were much more to ship than the good sale price! Check with your local kato dealers, as they will bring over catalogs via container sometimes and then little or no price boost. It's too bad Amazon.jp doesn't have the same export shipping on books they use to. It was 1500 yen on the first and then 300 yen on each additional one. We use to gang up an order of 10-15 books/mags/catalogues and shipping was reduced to Luke 400 yen or so each! It came faster than EMS usually too! Jeff Thanks for the information above. I have ordered before with SAL. It takes time but it is ususally fine (only one parcel was lost but I got full refund for it). After waiting and waiting, the boxes arrived all together: Some magazines and catalogues Cheap stuff from the last HS bargain period: one tomytec lever (to complete a set of four) and some turnout control boxes And of course, the Tomix 5517. Cheers. 1 Link to comment
