Having been seduced away from On30 to the "dark side" :grin , just ordered a Tomix 2 car set JR Railbus KIHA 01 from Plaza Japan. One of these is destined to be the motive power for a small mountain onsen branchline layout located somewhere in the Japanese Alps (most likely Hida?) that I'm contemplating building.

A blast from the past... an Endou EF57 for just 1,000 + tax. One for my historical N-gauge collection.

Wow! Railsquid. I have a 3 coach dble decker  set from Endou  which has metal body and metal gears. Is this the same? I quite like their stuff, even if it is maybe not as detailed as plastic models.

Yup, body and mechanism is pretty much all metal, quite a heavy beast. If you look carefully, the roof arches upwards a little, which is a common problem with this type apparently due to the metal compound used. Here's what they look like disassembled: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/genbunobu/10254787.html

I've also got a couple of the double-decker coaches ("Vista Car") but unmotorized.

Would those be Kintetsu "Vista Express" double deckers by any chance?

Sorely tempted by the Kato one, mostly as a three-car articulated EMU with one cab end styled like a '60s "train of the future" and a double deck centre car is completely different to anything we see in the UK.

The bowed roof may be a sign of zincpest, it's caused by impurities in the metal used to cast the model. It was more of a problem on pre-war models (Hornby Dublo really suffers from it as do some Marklin items) but has unfortunately reared its head again in recent years as manufacturers outsource production to factories who're more interested in maximising profit than in quality (which will still produce a profit, just a slightly smaller one for longer). Thankfully I've only encountered it on a static Corgi 1:50 model of a Scammell tractor unit, which has started to show crazing in the paintwork.

My latest orders:

Kato Island Platform Type A (to give the platform-mounted signalbox from the twin pack I already have a home) and an Oha 47 to extend the train behind my C57.

Bandai B Train Shorty Sanriku Railway DMU pair (white with blue/red stripes and sea blue with graphics) and a motorised chassis, currently deciding whether to motorise both or fit a trailer chassis under the other one. Leaning towards dual motors as that gives more flexibility.

A parcel was dropped off from Ami Ami, my 2nd order with them... They do have quite nice prices and some inventory that might not be available elsewhere...

1) The new Tomytec Diorama book. There's quite a number of fresh ideas for diorama building in there!

2) Tomix 0336 tight couplers... Man these cost quite a fair bit. They are making me think twice about buying Tomix commuter trains... Might as well get Kato ones since their's are already tight coupled standardly.

3) Kato grade up set for Kato platform. Loving these Kato platforms and will be using them in my layout even if i'm using Tomix tracks...

4) Tomytec human collection 'Rail roaders' for the diorama

5) Tomix 6211 case for 8 cars. Here's a question that always confuses me; how do we know what is the length of the carriage; i.e. 20mm class, 21mm class, 22mm class, 23mm class etc.? Bought the wrong case as I wanted this for my 8-car MA Shinano 383 series, but nothing a little cutting cant fix...

6) Casco case for 10-cars Shinkansen. This is truly good as it can house 10 shinkansen cars into a book case, ideal for trains like 200 series, E2 and E5. This helps to house my 200 series all together ~~

You can just buy the Tomix HG sets that have them on by default. Also Kato sell rapido coupled ones too.

how do we know what is the length of the carriage

The easiest way is to look at the prototype data on wikipedia. Just remember that normal and shinkansen boxes are not interchangable.

I know you love Tomix to death, but those 2 sentences are very far from the truth in reference to commuters.

Ah, Mazak rot? Could well be. There were 4 or 5 identical models, all affected in the same way. Doesn't bother me really, but I now feel an urge to acquire some of these earlier electrics :)

The start of aN Empire ... Post(wo)man Pat delivered a TGW Kiha 40000, in Japanese Government Railways livery straight to the door (on our farm it's a half k walk down to the letterbox, and the We(s)t Coast is living up to its reputation, again!).

Have to say say I'm impressed with Hobby Search, 4 days from ordering to delivery and that included a weekend.

And, have only just now ordered a Greenmax #2128 Local Station Building from PlazaJapan.

Nice to see that you haven't abandoned us or the hobby.

Oh my, you slided down the slippery slope of JR Freight?

Tell me about it, I originally purchased the two Microace Keihan Keishin 800 Series as well as some ARUNINE Ballast Wagons and a TGW TMC100 with the Rail Carrying Bolsters, I said to my wife that I should be safe as I am doing a line that uses limited types of rolling stock. I now have an EF210-100, EF64-1000, DD51, DE10 Warm Climate and DE10 Cold Climate as well 21 contemporary Koki's, add to that I have an EH200, EF64-100, Koki 200, Koki 104's and Taki 1000's on preorder, my slippery slope into JRF is becoming more like a toboggan run down Mt Everest.

I'm already at the bottom of the slope!  Just going knee deep after my last purchase. haha

The 50th anniversary wagons completes my consist, I now have all the 10 wagons.  Just need a EF210.

The DD51-842 Royal Version just added to my Takasaki Depot train units.

This MicroAce prototype Shinkansen unit arrived the other day from NuclearErick (only one car shown here):

post-1206-0-74633200-1438955914_thumb.jpg

As advertised, it was a non-runner, but some disassembly later we have the culprit:

post-1206-0-65560400-1438955926_thumb.jpg

The black membrane on the right of the picture was fouling the flywheels, stopping the motor from moving. This is not the first time I've had problems with that membrane, which seems to be a MicroAce speciality. The only purpose it seems to serve is to help press the main power strips (on the underside of the blue insert) against the power strip for the end lights (visible on the blue insert), which was easy enough to fix with a piece of humble sellotape.

Anyway here it is returned to working order :)

I too have the Keihan Otsu line Type 700 K-ON wrapping and it can run against the Keihan type 600 K-ON wrapping train

But I also added a KATO C12 to my steam train fleet. (I think I need a bigger Steam Loco shed lol :P

The postman was hardworking yesterday to drop off my parcel from EMS from our good friend at MTP:

1) Kato 10-1287. Needing a 313 series since I stupidly sold off mine a few years back.... Now is the chance to own it again!

2) Tomix EF64-37 for the Ben'etsu Monogatari set...

3) The highlight and crown jewel and my most expensive set yet, the Tomix 98933 SL Ben'etsu Monogatari set! Boy the box is beautiful! The locomotive is simply beautiful and I decided to grade up the set! (More on that in another thread)

Seems like a nice weekend!

* Off topic, it's been a year since my roster shoot so I guess it's time to update it again ~
