    Kato EF58-61

Hi everyone I have kato EF58-61 locomotive, which cars I can use with?
  2. For fans of JNR era express dmus (count me as one), Tenshodo is releasing a new production of kiha 58 railcars (and associated types), fitted with quantum sound. Release this summer, prices TBD. http://www.tenshodo.co.jp/models/product/release/kiha58_p/tabid/879/Default.aspx Also, Kato is doing a reissue of their kiha 58 series, I'll certainly pick up a couple, especially the kiro 28, I don't have that one yet. (also this summer) http://www.katomodels.com/ho/kiha28_58/ quantum sound on a Tenshodo kiha 52: *I like the idling sound, not so crazy about the sound when running th
  3. I have for my future layout several KATO bridge spans, some truss type for the main spans and some non-truss for the approaches. I have each type in both "red" and "green", except the shades of red for the truss and non-truss aren't even close to similar, and the same goes for the green spans. So I would like to paint the bridges so each bridge, end to end, is one color. I've already determined that the bridge spans are molded in color, so I won't be painting over existing paint. What I need to know, if anyone can help, are: What type of plastic does KATO use for their bridges? Based o

    unijoiners

One thing i noticed is that classic wooden tie unitrack joined with unijoiners looks really off around the joiners. Not only we have a double tie join (which is relatively rare today), but the joiner itself is flat gray and this creates holes in the tie pattern. So i just removed the joiners and painted the raised tie parts with a lack marker pen. The result can be seen on the attached picture. (yes they are kato/tomix converter tracks) The painted unijoiners are in the middle and can be barely seen. Imho this makes it look much better. My question is does anyone paint their joiners or nowdays
  5. Kato has pictures of the new Hokkaido style D51s on the Japanese language version of the website. The web address is set out below: - http://www.katomodels.com/n/d51/
  6. Its finally here and apart from the drap green Box everything looks amazing :) But right after the unboxing people from Europe will be dissapointed that Kato gives you a switching power supply which is capable handling 240V and has an exchangeable Plug but doesnt include the european Plug :icon_scratch: So you will either end up finding that thing somewhere online or end up doing what i did Which is solder the Plug from the stock power suplly that connects to the Crossing Gate to a USB Cable which gives you the advantage to use any USB Port or modern Cell Phone Charger to power up t
  7. Hi I want control KATO switches (equiped with NCE SWITCH-KAT decoders) using SPROG III and JMRI, but have a problem. JMRI+SPROG control only double crossover, not a switches, everything works fine if I use MRC or NCE DCC system Any advice?

Kato Unitrack and Unitram Track Plans

I have discovered a section of the Kato Japanese website that is featuring some great track plans for Unitrack and Unitram in both N scale and H0. You can find it here: http://www.katomodels.com/unitrackplan/ It is currently being updated every week and at the moment is showing some Unitram plans. Some of the compact N scale layouts are also quite good. There is also a great layout design based on the Toyama tram route in the Unitram section: http://www.katomodels.com/unitram/layout.shtml

    Replacement Wheels Kato D51 (2016)

Does anyone make replacement wheels for the front truck of the Kato D51 (2016)? The wheels of the front truck are spoked but not see through and while I am aware of an article where the author drills out between the spokes I would like to find a simple replacement (which will also be more durable). Can anyone assist?
  11. Just got my tax return! Time to buy a new train. Which one would you guys go for?
  12. I'm a bit baffled as I've got two sets of Series 500 Shinkansens, both Kato and both with the same set number (10-382). However, they have different coloured headlights - one set with amber headlights and one set with blue headlights. The packaging is also different between the two. I've been trying to find out some more information but I haven't been able to find anything that indicates the set was released in two different versions. The only thing I can think off is that the version with the blue headlights is a re-release of the original set with the modification of the headlight colour
  13. Hey guys im new to Japanese N Scale so excuse me for my lack of knowledge i've read some threads here about DCC but i couldnt find one that would help me wiring the Directional Headlights of my Tomix N700 and Kato E5 using only one decoder per shinkansen being installed into the motorized car! i dont have any idea at all how to do this :icon_scratch: but im sure that one of you guys has succesfully done this before! thank you in advance for your suggestions
