my second last (i hope  :confused5: ) buy for 2015 and winter 2016..

i will be visiting japan before the end of winter, so no more buys, no more orders..embargo in shopping trains

Next shopping spree, only in Japan itself!

so what i got:

from a local auction, not japanese but a Trix Ce 6/8 Crocodil from the Swiss railways. Probably one of the most iconic Locomotive in Switzerland.

Japanese, from ModelTrainPlus, again perfect service, a KATO 6 cars set in theTwilight colors, my EF81 was alone..

so much for "second last" buy..

today i went to a local model train "exchange/sale/meeting" where you have lot of privates that sell trains, mostly used but also new.

Here in CH, mostly is H0 size, but also N is good represented.

I would then say that of the N size  80% are swiss trains with german and european trains and the 19.9% American.

I got the  0.1% japanese

not probably the best price for it, but i neved did see the model and is somehow old..

so i got a new "used" KATO JR Hokkaido ANA Big Sneaker train.

i also got, to support the local N-track club an american car in "swiss" colors

This evening, I ordered my first really new things in a very long time. It's from the small Toma Model Works company, which specialises in narrow gauge equipment. One being the N Narrow Korokoro Power Unit, a matching N-scale Kujūkuri Railway KiHa 104 and a Kato small power unit (11-105~11-107) to frankenstein into the Korokoro power unit. This will be a fun and very tiny project.

Here it is in action by Toma:

If this proves to be a successful venture, I'll order a next one and maybe convert it into a rail-powered unit with a fat capacitor as an electronic flywheel.

Well, it came from a real shop rather than mail order but...

An early Graham Farish ex-LMS 4P 4-4-0 in lined BR black. Brass gears, so it runs well (if a bit noisy), judging by the condition it has done very few miles over the years. Bit of an impulse buy! I'll have to find some suitable coaches now, thinking the older "suburban" bogie non-corridor stock will suit it better than anything current, that way the detailing on the coaches won't embarrass the loco.

I just received Tomytec's new Large Highway Overpass 119 and Pedestrian Deck 118 that I pre-ordered from Hobby Search a few months ago  These kits look really nice and their decks are high up enough to clear pantographs, unlike the Greenmax version.

My long awaited pre order of Taki 1000's and EF64-1000 from AmiAmi arrived today along with a number of additions to the original order, luckily the wife got a Kikipop doll with the order that helped cut down my postage costs.

Just received notification that my order for the Eurostar add-ons is ready for dispatch. I have only been waiting 20-odd years to complete the set!

Took a trip to Warley Model Railway Exhibition at the NEC at the weekend. Sadly no Japanese layouts on show but some very inspiring British and Continental models big and small. Highlights for me were Depot Val Rikard (Dutch HO) The Worlds End (British OO) and Santa Barbara (American N) which were stunning. Chatted to the creator of Depot Val Rikard about his technique for creating very realistic looking concrete from foamboard

Modelbahn had a small stall with some nice Japanese product. The new Tomix Sunrise Express would certainly sway me to HO if I had the space and extra cash. I did pick up the Microace Kiha 32 Tetsudo Hobby Train from them which was a similar price to ordering from Japan + shipping and too unique to pass up.

Also picked up a used but beautifully cared for EMD F3 in D&RGW Livery for a steal from a small private dealer. I've always loved this iconic nose shape.

And it's not even Christmas...

Today I finally received my Kato Twilight Express with an EF81 and a couple of DD51s in Hokutosei livery. I have been waiting for this train for a long time and it's a real shame the blue trains are almost all retired. It's a nice addition to the other sleeper trains in my collection and a stunning model.post-2039-0-91987700-1449094960_thumb.jpg

This one arrived today.  At twice the price of a Japanese SL (and doesn't run nearly as well either), I'm not sure it was a good buy.  Looks good though.

You'll need coaches now...

Bear in mind that Tornado is a new-build, so you have a huge variety of potential stock to choose from. It has run on the main line with charter trains formed from a mix of MK1/MK2 stock and Pullmans (both the Met Cam MK1 type and I think the older designs too), and on preserved lines. I saw a photo recently of it on the Severn Valley with their set of LNER teak coaches.

Last few days have seen my second Tomytec TM-18 arrive along with a couple of Kato three-way extension cords, so I've finished the 119-0 Suruga Shuttle but not tested it yet. Also just had an email that my three car Kato 457 Series has been dispatched, so my 165 Series will soon have its dual-voltage cousin by way of company.

I'm wondering if a video review of the KuMoNi 13 would be popular? Decided against making a Tomytec one as watching me comparing various lengths of chassis end and clipping bogie sideframes on probably isn't that exciting! After a brief test I can say that while the KuMoNi will go through 150mm radius curves it doesn't sound completely happy, there's noticeably more gear noise on the curves. Go up to 216mm and it's fine, 183mm might be ok too but I've not tried that yet. As with all Kato it benefited from a drop of oil on both motor bearings and the worm drive bearings, it's a lot smoother and quieter afterwards.

Hi all. I received my first Tomix/Kato buildings some days ago.

As I just moved to a new place, I haven't find time nor space to have a go with them.

It is a shame but they have to go back to the garage until further notice.

By the way, I also some of the Tomytec 1/12 levers to make some trials...

Those 1:12 levers are interesting.  As in the picture on them.  They have a piece you can buy separately to attach them to Tomix controllers to make them proper workable switches for turnouts.

The family wanted to check lut the new LaLaPort mall at Ebina station, so I decided to come alonh and flee to the Vina Walk mall where a branch of Popondetta is located.

Because I was dragging my little boy along, there was little opportunity to browse the shop thoroughly, but at least I managed to grab this old Greenmax set of wave breakers. The box will be cut up and preserved, as the illustrations are just too nice to throw away.

Yes, this is the item that you pointed out: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10129170

This attached to the levers can be used for turnout operations.

Also, Tomix promotes them for their semaphore signals.

The levers are not interlocked by the way (I know it was too much to ask) but these are still quite good to try them in a couple of experiments.

I noticed that there is not a post of Tomix mechanical semaphores in the forum yet. I have a little of experience on those so I would try to make a post with some info of the topic.

Tetrapods! Or something similar.

(I was so bored a couple of years ago that I looked up "what are those things used to build breakwaters which look a bit like concrete caltrops?")

My 457 Series arrived yesterday, currently parked next to its 165 Series cousin and awaiting a test.

Despite my personal promise not to order anything any more before returning from the Netherlands, I ordered a Numajiri Railway GaSo 101 in N-narrow form World Craft (World Kōgei or simply 'World'). I did this because World's productions usually have only one production run and sell out very quickly. Especially the narrow gauge products (O, H0 and N) and steam trains go rapidly, so you have to be quick. This order seemed to have been the last as well at World...

And yes, this little petrol powered thing is as obscure as this:

P.s. World just mailed me the order is already in the mail... Should be arriving tomorrow or wednesday morning.

My first order from Japan in several months arrived today, it was also my first time ordering from ModelTrainPlus and I am very impressed. The HO Koki cars are beautiful.  I must resist the urge to model Japanese trains in HO scale.  I was also happy to see that ModelTrainPlus sold the Tetsudo-Musume containers individually, I don't want to collect the set but just wanted a couple for a unique container load.
