kvp
Actually after getting most of their molds stolen, copied and/or destroyed Maerklin had moved everything back to Europe. So it's mostly made in Hungary now. Even Lego production is in the process of being split between Hungary and China. The assembly line salaries are roughly the same, but Hungary has cheaper shipping to the EU, while China has cheaper shipping to the US. Link to comment
gerryo
I received my Kato Viaduct Station and Extension, and my Overhead Transit Station and Extension last night. Now I can get some accurate measurements for my drawings. Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Today I wanted to buy myself a little present, a Nagano Dentetsu 1000 Series. About 12 years ago I rode the full prototype on the Odakyū Odawara Line from Hakone Yūmoto to Shinjuku. Living near Odakyū and not owning even one train from that company, I thought it was time to get crackin'. As the prototypes are far too long to collect (costly), I decided to buy this instead. I'll probably reserve this train as a repainting project for a small local company project (car length 16m max) I'm currently working on. 3 Link to comment

Welcome to the Odakyu Toni! :) I like the Odakyu too, like the VSE, MSE, EXE, RSE basically most of the romance cars... Luckily for me, I can get these romance cars as 10 full consist as the carriages are basically shorter than the normal so it can fit in a 8.5 car platform nicely... Now, guess what I collected today? More trains from an unknown source! FIRST time I've EVER receive trains wrapped in.... Tissue/ Toilet paper? Wahahaha They are genuine MA trains though, and they looked new after I inspected the wheels carefully. There was no spot or traces whatsoever hence I think I can safely say they're new... No cases though, but i'm not complaining for the prices I pay for these rare babies! I can easily get more MA cases to house them in. I really don't know how these came around, perhaps some employees stole them from the factory? Now, how can I STOP buying trains and actually START building my layout? 2 Link to comment

To be honest, I'm absolutely no Odakyū person. Yes, I'm reliant on them to get to the centre of the Metropolitan area quickly, but that's about it. So far, I have only ridden a Romance car ONCE in my life, which was that 10000 Series of 12 years ago. The sub-companies of Odakyū are far more interesting to me (Enoden, Hakone Tozan and Kanagawa Central Transport), as they have a bit more 'soul' going on. It's not that I hate Odakyū, I'm just very indifferent about them, hence this train I bought is being put on the repaint-list. Come to think of it, I DO own a 2nd hand Tetsudo Collection Odakyū 2200 type with flat front, but that was also more for the cheap motor that was already fitted than the train itself. Link to comment

JR 500系
Great choices there, JR500. Thanks! Kinda love these JR East limited express trains. The Yasuragi no Nikko is an interesting train and I needed a 189 series so.... Now all that's left of the 485 salon joyful trains is the Seseragi.... I really like that E653, now to wait for Kato to release one ... That would be difficult I think... Since Kato is re-releasing the E657, I doubt they'll be doing the E653... In fact, only MA did the E653s... Kato did the 651, 655 and E657 series. Link to comment

railsquid
Today's somewhat random Akihabara haul: The problem with living in Japan is that scoring interesting and/or cheap Japanese trains is usually like shooting fish in a barrel, so I'm branching out into British and German stuff. However I've found a new Japanese challenge - obtain a Kato 205 Yamanote line set (which was the first train I ever boarded in Japan). I was seriously tempted by a Saikyo line set, which is easy, and also the last 205 I'll probably ever board, but the Yamanote version seems to be pretty rare these days. Link to comment
Densha
Is that a Kato Yo8000? I have found them to be extremely hard to get, probably especially because I'm not living in Japan. Link to comment

Indeed it is. They seem a bit thin on the ground here, this is only the second time I've seen any (first one I bought I gave to someone as a present, and afterwards decided I needed another one), Link to comment

I think there's somemore to add on to make a really complete series, like: 1) East-I E926 2) 0-series 256km/h (prototype?) 3) E1 Max in new painting (ibis colour) 4) 200 series Omiya version 5) 400 series in new paining (Tsubasa) 6) Arigato E3 Komachi 7) N700-1000 Big A 8) N700-2000 Small A 9) N700-8000 Kumamom/ Kurochan version But nonetheless really impressive roster of front carriages! Kudos! Really amazing to see the rare ones like the 200-2000 series, Arigato 300 series, etc.. There seems to be 2 E2-0 Asama? 6feb15 order.JPG Ordered my first Tomytec buses.
