Sir Knight,

Please be sure to share your station concept. I'm curious to see what you come up with.

Edited to add that I see you've already done this on another thread. Oops!

The postman dropped a box today from HS...

I ABSOLAUTELY adore the Bus Collection book ~ Gonna be my treasured book... It's packed FULL of bus pictures for 10 long running years the collection has started!

Some layout stuff, and finally a wheel polisher... Now to get to work polishing the wheels and the tracks of the Super Azusa.. .

well after being away from trains for a while (not out of choice!), I've finally spent my hard saved pocket money on the first Japanese train in a couple of years.. This morning I ordered :

Tomix 92332 JR EF66 Blue Train Set

from PlazaJapan.  I'm am so excited as I've always wanted an EF66, and need (thats right need :) ) a blue train

So hopefully in a week or so It'll arrive and I'll get to tidy up the garage and work on the layout

Ohh vending machines with LEDs! I'd love to see how they look like when the lights are on.

You know Densha, i wished i could see too! I opened the package and discovered i needed a resistor and a 3V voltage to get it to work...

Here's more of what came in the mail yesterday! Yes i bought a coffee machine! But... wait!

Got these off ebay... For a good price, esp the Bus Collection 7 Tokyo coloured bus! Gotta love the Fire engine with it's movable hydraulic platform too for my fire station ~~

Ordered:

- 1 Arumo GE Boxcab kit http://homepage3.nifty.com/arumo/r0073.htm;

- Detail parts to finish the above;

- 1 Tenshodo WB26S power truck. This has been the most difficult part to get so far as Tenshodo is out of stock. I had to source it in the UK. If anyone knows of an (English-speaking) source in Japan, I'll be grateful as I have other kits in mind;

The icing in the cake came this morning - I asked my Tokyo contact if he didn't knew any web resources for Mori Seisakusho (usually transliterated into English as "Mori Works") who built small internal-combustion locos for several private railways and industrial users, including the Kubiki, Kaya and Gobo Rinkai (Kitetsu) railways. Much to my surprise he said there is a book (3800 yen) about the company! Ordered on the spot...do you guys think I made a mistake?

Cheers NB

ad at the opposite end of the spectrum from Nick's exotica, I just won a "perfect condition" Kato 285-3000 sunrise express 7-car set on Yahoo japan for JPY 7000.  This is a "gap filler" simply because it's otherwise unfathomable that my too large collection be without this distinctive train.  I didn't particularly care if it was the JR West or JR Central version that I got, and nor should any sane person given that they differ by an extra digit on the wagons.  While these rarely sell for that much and are not at all particularly hard to source, I was surprised to see that the one I won went for less than one the day before which was missing both couplers and (upon close inspection of the photos), a  pantograph.

Uuugh... I actually don't have any money, but I couldn't resist this A-6090 at only ¥5.000 D: Dammit, why did I go to TamTam again!? Now I have two Keisei 3200 Type Number 90 trains... I need to buy some transfers for different car numbers. And interior lighting. And TN couplers... Maybe even power-conducting couplers... AAAARGH!

Now now Tony don't be so harsh on yourself! As a fellow train/ model train lover, I wouldn't be able to resist going to any of the model train shops if i was in Japan! What's more to spot what you like at the price to die for!

If i was in Japan and came across the Aso Boy or any other painted trains, or Tomytec bus collection secret buses, at that kind of prices to die for, i wouldn't be able to resist at all! Who cares about the credit card bill!

It's very hard to constrain yourself here. I never expected to see a cheap Keisei train at TamTam Sagamihara, so it was a pleasant surprise. Bet yes, these are the things the wife doesn't need to know about :P Luckily I have illustration jobs on the side, so I can carefully allow myself a little financial sidestep.

Yeah... I have the feeling this is the start of a 90s Keisei collection. The era when all the awesome trains of Keisei were running (they still have some, but are slowly dying out). The old AE Skyliner and AE100 Skyliners, all old 3000 series, Chiba Express... Ah, wonderful days.

Ahhh a 201 in Chuo line colours! My favourite 201 series livery! Gotta love the 6-car combined with the 4-car EMU. I think the 201 series is my favourite Japanese square EMU.

It's nice, but apparently they managed to send 2 of the wrong carriages. 1999.co has that particular set as having the lighted headboards on the front but as you can see they are smooth.

I'm kind of disappointed, I like the lighted headboard 201s.

Did you get this one? http://www.katomodels.com/product/nmi/201kei_final.shtml

I don't have the model, but the photo shows that only the headlights are lighted unfortunately. On HS's photo without the headboard installed you can indeed see a transparent plastic you you'd think it's lighted.

The Tomytec models seem to be of the same quality: http://www.1999.co.jp/search_e.asp?Typ1_c=104&scope=1&scope2=0&itkey=tomytec+railway+collection+201+chuo But of course Tomytec doesn't support any lightning and you have to get the power unit, bogies, panto's etc. The price will be half of Kato's, but you don't get any lightning and bookcase though. And I don't know about a 5-car one on the Chuo line, only of 4/6/10 car 201 series.

I presume that's an older version of the model? On this website and video you can indeed see the lighted headboard:

http://www.h3.dion.ne.jp/~ring378/hobby/railroad/electriccar/electriccar.htm

That's just weird! Are you sure it's the correct article number and if so maybe it's included as a part you have to attach yourself? Where did you get it? :S

Even more weird is that I can't find about the existence of a Kato JR 201 series in Chuo colours without a headboard at all! ???

Nice! And it looks strangely familiar...  :)

I don't know of anyone, but as a possible substitute you might consider a Steam Era Black Beetle. I've used them on a number of models, they're rather good little units. http://www.steameramodels.com/bbeetle.htm

No way - buying railway books is never a mistake! But you have to post a brief review when you get it, yeah?

All the best,

Mark.

Haha!

It looked like it just went through the trash compactor! It's so cute!

It's not a train, but today my Tomytec model of a Shinto shrine complex (The Building Collection 010-2) arrived.  It's going to be the centerpiece (literally) of the hilltop I'm adding above the gaping hole at one end of my layout that will eventually hold a helix down to storage tracks.

A very nice model, and while I may end up painting it, or parts of it, the pre-painted pieces actually look quite good.

There are a lot of parts though.  I don't think I've assembled a plastic model this complicated since I was in High School (and that was a LOOONG time ago).

Well they're not Japanese but they are N scale - tracking says the two Bachmann McKinley Explorer sets I ordered should be deliveried tomorrow. This deal, $59.40 a set with free shipping, is what started this whole N scale thing thing for me.
