My emperor's car showed up yesterday! very nice. now to work on the tiny seals and flags! trying to make flags that will move a little when the train does.

someone should print up a scad of them at shapeways, they could make a quick buck!

cheers

jeff

Mine was sent a couple of days ago.

I'm thinking of taking a mold of the emblem on the emporer's car in my 10-418 set and casting ones for the E655 but I haven't worked how or out of what yet.

West,

Yes that thought had occurred to me using polymer clay and then touching up where necessary. May try carving one in polymer clay. i did print one to size to see what that loks like. Not quite the right color peinted and a little flat (tried a burnisher to round the edges a little) -- fine past 2' away.

I've been cutting up bits of thin flexible white films to make the flags, hoping one might give some play to make the flag flap a little.

Anyone fast with cad? Would be a snap to have these 3d printed with the drawing...

Cheers

Jeff

Congratulations!  Can you help me understand something?  Maybe I just didnt notice recently, but do the E217s that run to Yokosuka now have the lighter blue stripe?   Why did they change it?  I liked the dark blue and it was consistent with the old blue/beige EMUs better, too.

According to Japanese Wikipedia they changed the color from dark blue and cream to light blue and lighter cream when the electronics were updated at the 2.4 million km overhaul, which started in 2007 and was apparently completed in or by 2012. The changes includes brakes, signaling, and motor controllers (the latter upgraded from GTO to IGBT if I'm reading the google translation correctly).

Here's a photo of the two colors dated 2008.

Keikyu 1000 or N1000? ;)

Also, if a 1000, economy kit or pre-painted (if Greenmax as well)

N1000 actually, i didn't know there was a difference but the non Stainless Steel N1000. it's a prepainted trailer kit i thought had a motor but it didn't.

So i got the closest motor I could find and if I have to cut it down or anything I don't mind. Just as long as it moves.

Oooh! Good choice! The N1000 with stainless steel bodies don't get much love (with a good reason).

(with a good reason).

Second that. They look cool but it's just not what you expect a Keikyu livery to be like. I don't like it very much but it has an interesting look.

Stainless steel is everywhere, whereas Keikyu used to sport full-body liveries until those 'things' came. Prior to that, stainless was covered by Keisei, Hokusō and Chiba New Town (who all had/have their own take on how to fill stainless steel with an interesting livery).

Just came out of camp from my 2 weeks in-camp training...

Collected a parcel yesterday from the post ~ Some nice vehicles and buses from ebay~

Can't get enough of these buses!

I love the Fire Engines! Although they are initially made for Hong Kong, these fire engines look great when combined with their Tomytec counter parts, and now i have a fully operational Fire department ready for my town!

Jr, cool, so the tomytec and Hong Kong fire trucks scale out well next to each other? I have looked at those for a long time but was worried they may be at 1/144 and be a bit on the big side. Details look quite nice on them.

If I don't get an email notice of stockout in the next day or so, I should have the Keihan 6000 series old color add-on set coming from HS.

I have a basic four-car 6000 which I've had for about 10 years or so and haven't gotten around to assembling... this way when I finally get around to assembling it in 2018 or thereabouts I will have the full eight car train.

To round it out I got a couple of the Kato Hino Poncho minibuses and a Tomytec Choshi unit.

I'll have to check them out, and find a figure that looks like his majesty to have waving to his subjects from the window.

My thought as well. was thinking it would be fun to have his arm wave, but that would be bloody hard to see thru the window!

btw the only tomytec figure that looks like might work that is waving is one of the police figures

give him a black suit and get rid of the hat and should work! youll need a bunch of the photographer figures to plant alongside the tracks!

best material so far i have found for the front flag is heavy duty white plastic kitchen bag material. still supple enough to move some but is opaque. this is what the MA c56 flags use and its nice as they actually can move a tiny bit.

Oohhhh that's great! DD51's are always good! Which brand(s)?

All Katos, nice easy drop-in DCC.  I need to get a couple of standard warm weather versions to round out the fleet.
