Not really buying, but rather sold/traded my Keiseo Skyliner, a Hokuso 7000 Series and Hokuso 9000 Series brass kit for this and money for more trains later (JAM in two weeks):

A 201-900 Series brass/plastic kit for four cars. Made by Revolution Factory. This will probably end up becoming something in a fantasy livery xD

Ok I bit at some of nick's btrains on ebay and picked up an 8 car 700, 7 car 923 set, 8 car E5 set (have this but can use it for a gift), and 4 car E3 set. Must stop buying btrains!

Cheers

And here we go. A freshly re-released Kato Wide View Shinano.

I went for the 6 + 2 car sets.

I added two N scale items to an order placed at AmiAmi for an HO EF64-1000. More northern Japan fun for my N scale fleet.

Went back to my local hobby shop and got a few more odds and ends from the estate they purchased. A Kato Roundhouse 201 Series Shikisai (which is absolutely gorgeous), the Micro Ace Russell Snowplow set (I know it's not prototypical but I'd rather run these with a DD51 than a DD16), the first Kato EF-210, and a Kato pocket line set and the mini electric locomotive.

Browsing this collection I had a thought since the owners mentioned they don't know how they were going to sell this since, well, there's not much interest in it around here. I proposed cataloging it all and putting a spreadsheet up on here of the items as well as photographing everything (I'll use my digital camera, not my garbage cell phone one) and seeing if anyone is interested. The items are mostly early 2000s Tomix and Kato sets but there are also some earlier (some 90s Kato boxes in there) and a few later ones. The prices are not bad and I don't want to get into negotiating a price, I'd provide contact information for the shop owners, my role is just the go-between. PM me if this is something you would like to see, work is rough for me now but I'd like to get a list up by the beginning of September. I'll also post a thread in the Sell forum for anyone that doesn't catch this one.

I am now proud member of the Suica E2 Shinkansen Owners club thanks to JR500, whose post inspired me to get one  :)

Besides the E2 Suica, I also got the newly released E3-2000 Tohoku Treasureland, the 800-2000 Kyushu Shinkansen, and a 500 Sanyo Shinkansen in Kasenger Wrapping, to keep my 500 EVA some company.

Nice Yavianice!  That E2 Suica is also one of my favorite shinkansens (after the 500 series of course) too and definitely a keeper!

Oh yes! I do not like the E2 that much by itself, but the Suica is super cute! And I have been to most of the places on the sides of train (including the festivals) last year. So, happy memories. But that's what I try to do, build a model train collection of memories  :)

Wow you got bit big by the painted Shinkansens! An expensive hobby but well worth it.

Enjoy!

Jeff

At least the Japanese painted trains are cheap. European painted trains are much more expensive. And I have ordered some of those, too... which I will put here at some point as well.

I said to myself I wouldn't buy anything before the JAM, but... Well, sometimes you come across a good deal...

Sōtetsu 9000 series in new livery. 4 cars because my Sōtetsu collection is 4 cars only anyway. Yes, they run 10 car formations in real life, but my real life is not having space that much. :P

Anyway, let's see what goodies the JAM will bring in two weeks.

I thought you stopped collecting Sotetsu? Although I'm not one to say because I also tend to 'stop collecting' certain trains to only get back into collecting them again after a while...

I especially bought it because it came with the extra car (cab car) :P

A lot of transport companies here release their own private sets which can either only be bought at special events, over their own shops, or over specialised webshops. Sōtetsu has already quite a number of special releases out there, which include all variations of the 9000 and 7000 series, as well as some older models. It's not surprising that these arent generally well known. :)

Small thing and big thing.

Small thing, just a first day cover of the Tokaido line opening (been collecting fdcs and stamps since I was small)

Big thing. A very big box containing a 1hp dust handler for the wood shop. Old onewas 3/4 hp and bulky and hard to dump the sawdust. This one is upright and all the sawdust falls into a plastic bag for easy removal!

A recent arrival

I think I'm using the case correctly

post-4306-0-16733600-1502522451_thumb.jpg

as I couldn't work out how the cutout in the case foam was meant to hold a loco, so instead I put the jewel case insert in the book case. It sort of works.

I can't wait until I get 98971 as well as the other Japan Oil Terminal Taki 1000's I have on order, I will be filling that case with those as well as the JOT ones that I have, looking at the case it looks like they have made room for the EH200 (9180) that will be released later in the year.

It may look that way, but the lid doesn't close flush as the polystyrene insert's slightly taller than the side of the case.

Two good deals I couldn't pass up.

I actually want the Blue 883 Sonic real bad, but this original 883 was just too good of a deal.

Gotta love those tilting models~

Kato 165 series "Moonlight", Brown

post-12046-0-28533800-1502561177_thumb.jpgpost-12046-0-42559500-1502561364_thumb.jpg

Really nice train, although I'm slightly confused as to some points in the manual:

There are several train head marks on the sticker sheet, however there are no plastic detail parts to be used as a "backplate", instead the manual says to use "a thin plastic plate/etc" and double sided tape to attach them to the train. Is this the standard procedure? (this is my first train with head marks so far...)

The manual also says that this is a "Special Projected Item" and that because of this there are no Assy Parts/Assy Sheet. What exactly does the "Special Projected Item" part mean in this? I assume it could mean that this is small number rerun of an old model so they didn't produce any more spare parts for it?

It's probably the same as some Roundhouse models.

They're basically just "re-painted" versions of existing models.

Problem with this is that they don't replicate parts which are exclusive to the prototype. Take the Toreiyu Tsubasa or Izu Craile for example. Kato only changed the external appearance to resemble those trains, while taking the interior parts from the old Tsubasa & Akagi models even though the interiors of the prototypes vastly differ. These two are pretty extreme cases, which is why I always check twice before buying Roundhouse models. In my view it's a very lazy method to make more money quick.

Either way, that's a nice 165 series and for the price I could even live with making my own head mark plate.
