trainhoarder
Seems the Royal Mail have sorted their problems at Langley WDC, Heathrow. My Shinkansen arrived at said centre at 17:49 today...in it's way to Sheffield by 20:00... Not long now! 1 Link to comment
Kamome
A small purchase today after a model railway boycott (courtesy of Mrs. Kamome) for a few months whilst prepping the move. Just picked up the ever illusive Tomix 7 Eleven and some kei cars for the car park. Visited the relatively unknown Kyushu Railway shop where I made this small purchase. This is the second time to visit and I'd like to think I am one of the few, if not the only "gaijin" to visit there. They definitely have their priorities right. Their HO layout takes up 80% of the shop which has a large yard, 4 loops around the circumference of the layout and another rural track going up into the hills. They have a great collection of HO from over the years which is sadly not for sale, but most Kyushu based rolling stock or Blue trains that ran into Kyushu. My favourite was a EF58 in Green with the accompanying green liveried Tsubame. I think this was a Tenshodo loco. They have also modelled the roundhouse once found at Nogata, which is where the shop is located. Nogata used to be a popular coal mining area and the roundhouse sat alongside the main station, which is no longer there. It is now a rural town with little reason to visit apart from the shop of course. The car park has a purpose built shed with an almost running 9600. It should be running sometime this year apparently. They have also taken on D51 10, an old slug type D51 which is sadly nothing but a cab and boiler at present. The plan is to rebuild this into a stationary display. The rest of the land is filled with old JR sleepers, cab ends of EMUs, an SL front end and the last remaining running late JNR era bus, which they use occasionally for school excursions. Nogata is on a branch line (Chikuho Line) which runs off from Wakamatsu and dissects the Kagoshima Line at Orio. It runs alongside the Fukuhoku Yutaka Line which rejoins eventually at Hakata. They are now running the BEC819 series which have catenary as far as Orio and then run on the battery up to Wakamatsu. A great little shop which you could look around for hours but due to their passion, a little more pricey than the big corporations. Definitely find things you wouldn't find easily elsewhere though. 12 Link to comment

Kamome
Here's their website http://www.kisyaclub.gr.jp/ and their location Its easiest found by car, just off the route 200. You can get bus from Nogata station but there's a 15-20 min walk involved if you know where you're going. In true Japanese fashion, you'll also need to take your shoes off to go into the shop. There are a number of videos on YouTube of their layout. Edited July 18, 2017 by Kamome 3 Link to comment
Fenway Park
Thanks for the link. Very interesting to see the Kajima Colliery loco is part of their remit. I thought it was part of the Nogata Mining Museum. Great layout. Hope to go to Japan in 2019 but I don't think I can persuade my wife to go to the area. Link to comment

I'm modelling the Kyushu region, but, I was in Osaka a few years ago so I had to pick up the 281, and I've never owned a roundhouse model before so why not lol. Link to comment

The Tomix DE-10 is really nice, good runner and easy to install parts. It's a tad bulkier than the Kato one but comes in more (soo. To be way more) liveries. The crossing can be expanded to as many tracks as you want it to be so you add 10 extra sections in there. It's a big improvement over the old one but does look a bit toy-like up close. 1 Link to comment

Thanks, I think I'll get one of those then, the automatic version was a bit pricy for my taste but this manual one has a really good price :) Does it need a special part to extend it, or can you use the middle pieces of the light- and gateless crossings? railsquid
And another step down the Chuo Line/Yahoo Auctions rabbit hole... Kato E257 Azusa/Kaiji by Rail Squid, on Flickr Not a big fan of the E257s (the ride is not as smooth as the E351s on the curvy mountain sections for a start) but the Squidlet knows them (for simplicity's sake they're "Kaiji", aka "aidi!") so that's a good enough excuse... Also the new Tomix platform (version without the lighting, those have all sold out), out of the box it looks very narrow due to the edge markings, but in situ looks much more convincing, partly because it's the right hight for modern trains. 6 Link to comment
nah00
Not so much in the post but rather at a train show this weekend, got an older (my guess is early 90s) Type 0 Shinkansen from Kato and a Tomix Hokutosei EF-81. Sadly no box for either and no number plate for the EF-81 but I used leftovers from the Rainbow EF-81. Both are great runners once I cleaned the wheels and the Type 0 is so loud on the track it's almost like a real train. Also glad it has metal pantographs, the smaller plastic ones scare me. 2 Link to comment
Kiha66
Wish my 0 came with metal pantographs, the plastic version of the kato PS202 pantograph is about incredibly fragile. My 0 series is missing two, and I ended up ordering enough to replace the whole trains worth when they came back into stock in preparation of loosing even more. Link to comment
cteno4
Could not resist another painted train! Fun and decent looking. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10454207 Jeff 2 Link to comment

This was actually what was keeping my from getting one. The pantos on the 200 series I have are plastic and they just don't feel solid enough but these definitely do. Plus I paid $10 a car for the train so that was a big selling point... Link to comment
