railsquid
Japan is famous for, among other things, a plethora of manhole cover designs, so why not a JR one as well? Seen on a public road near Musashi-Sakai station, a block or two away from the Chuo Line. Edited August 9, 2019 by railsquid 3 Link to comment
Yavianice
Shall we have a train related manhole cover thread? I have a submission or two for that 1 Link to comment

railsquid
If you ever visit the JR Musuem in Omiya, if you walk back along the main road to Omiya Station, you pass the depot which has the decapitated heads of various locos on display. The above is the first time I've seen one left on its bogie though. 1 Link to comment
railsquid
Steam locomotive on a concrete elevated viaduct running through a park? http://kurikomasha.blog.fc2.com/img/1704A9.jpg/ No problem if you're modelling Yokohama in 1980. Source page: http://kurikomasha.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-157.html?sp The viaduct in question is partially still in place in use as a public walkway, but not in the park (Yamashita Koen) - it ends here, just before it reaches the park. Yavianice
Seven Stars Kyushu all sold out? Still want to run one on your layout? You can always go the cheapskate route and use the trial operation Seven Stars Kyushu instead. Though, come to think of it, maybe this IS the actual Seven Stars Kyushu? I've never seen it in real life. And there is an awful lot you can do in Photoshop nowadays, right? 3 5 Link to comment
Socimi
A perfectly normal Japanese level crossing... on U.S. soil... (well... more or less...) https://www.google.it/maps/@35.7537172,139.3392768,52a,35y,39.52t/data=!3m1!1e3 This is the No.13 Level Crossing of the JR Hachiko Line, wich is located not only just inside any military base, but inside the USAF's Yokota Base nonetheless! Nicknamed "the Allied 3rd Level Crossing", it stands out from the handful of other level crossings inside military bases (wich mostly are just unmarked concrete pathways over tracks used by scarce freight trains) as it's a Class-1 level crossing fully fitted with automatic gates and flashing lights, and most importantly, it's used by a relatively-busy (30min. headway), regularily operating, open-to-the-pubblic passenger-carrying railway line, wich means that anyone can actually (altough briefly) run trough the Yokota Air Base just by riding a normal Hachiko Line train between Higashi-Fussa and Hakonegasaki! It's precise location is at Kilometer 13 + 706m from the line terminus of Hachioji, and the crossing itself is located inside the western residential quarters, about 30m from the gate. Photos http://home.k02.itscom.net/brc/puchi/puchi57_review.html Of course, as it's an USAF base, access is restricted, and such close-up photos of this crossing are very rare... ... but cab-rides are restriction-free! Hachiko Line Cab ride from Hachioji to Kawagoe. The level crossing in question is at 19:00. Edited May 7, 2020 by Socimi 4 Link to comment
