Bandai B-Train Shorty

having to buy 10 sets, I may as well get the Kato E231.. they'd cost the same..

You can make one end car and one middle car from one box. Two boxes give you 2 end cars and 2 middle cars. But you need 2 end cars and 9 middle cars, so that's only 9 sets, not 10. You would also end up with 7 spare end cars or if you kitbash two into a platform door car, then with 5 spare end cars and 2 spare middle car sides and lots of spare roofs. If you are willing to use the leftover end parts for the kitbashed car and one of the bottom plates from a motor unit (and the end bracing from an end car), then you only need 8 boxes, since the kitbashed middle car can be made from the leftover roof and ends of two powered middle cars. This also needs lots of glue for the two kitbashed sides...

That's only 8 boxes and lot's of logistics. Still not much cheaper that buying the full kato set, that is cheaper because it only needs one motor and not 3.

I found out that Tenshodo used to sell a trifold book like layout for B Trains. I can't find anymore info on it. Do they still sell it or does anyone make something like it?

I had a 2300 sitting in my box for a while. I decided tonight I had the parts to redo it as a 3000.

Success I think. Though I snapped alot of the little things that hold the roof in place.

Bumping to aska  question, can you change the couplers on the Bandai locomotive motor? I took off the coverings and it's just an Arnold coupler with a ring at the end.

Yes, the coupler box can be opened without damage and it can be replaced with anything that fits in there. One thing that comes into my mind that might fit is the microtrains N or Z coupler.

Yes, I myself have modified a two Bandai engines with Tomy claw couplers. One of them will be hosting a B-train Jyōshin DEKI 1 type, and the other an Aru-nine 'Very Simple Convex Electric' (A1001, resembling the Toshiba type a little, once used by Keisei).

Surprisingly enough the normal B-Train knuckle couplers fit in there and they work alright with the Kato couplers I use on everything else. I guess that works, but thanks.

So how do the motors compare? I am specifically meaning the locomotive motors made by Kato and Bandai. I have the Bandai motors but I am just interested if the Kato ones perform better or have easier to swap couplers.

I purchased the Hokutosei B Set today in Akihabara for 1924 Yen. Got my first track as well. I'll post more once I get it built and running!

Sorry about that Densha. I have no idea why they flipped. Put them in an imgur album here: https://imgur.com/a/r7cH1

I don't have the third car motorised yet. I bought different bogie types and made a couple noob mistakes. I'll be changing things up once I get the change to go out again. For everything, including the power pack, the track, and the bogies, I spent ~16,000 Yen. Not cheap, but not too bad either. I'll probably swap out the motors in the sleeper cars for trailer bogies once I purchase them.

Looking for a 185 Series, but I can only find it on amazon.jp for 3,500 for four cars. Definitely not cheap. Anyone here own one?

I want one.

So, how can we get one? (also, where do you install the motor?)

Maybe it's like the steam train and you simply can't have one.

Yeah I think it's not possible to install a bandai or kato motor. Maybe with a bit of effort a smaller motor might fit. As for finding one, look on the auction sites.

So with the new Kintetsu Series 50000 (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10282771), does anyone know how many boxes you have to buy to make a complete train?  No mention of this on the HSJ web site.

If i understand the google translation for the original japanese page, then you need two boxes. The full train is 6 cars and each box contains a front car, the car behind it and you can also build the 3rd or 4th car. So from two boxes, you could build two end cars, two pantograph cars and 1 3rd and 1 4th. You will also need 1 motor and 2 boxes of passenger bogies. The motor should go into the Mo50300 car (the one that is single deck).

The Keikyu Deto 11.12 can be motorized with a bandai Power Unit 3, which will fit if you follow the instruction sheet and using a knife to cut holes in certain parts of the model. Another great model from Bandai!!

I will post more pictures when I have a motor  :)
