makes sense.... But nevertheless a good time to grab those sets that have long been forgotten or given up... That 922-0 looks interesting though, I thought it was a Doctor Yellow but seems lie it's not!

That 205-500 Sagami Line is nice too.... Is it a new colour? Description says so, but it looks exactly the same as the previous model A8760...

The prices look nice again. Maybe there is hope for a better price range in the future for MicroAce models.

The Sagami line 205-500 recently underwent a little overhaul with the new colour and it certainly looks different and more fresh than the greenish-blue (aqua?)

Having ridden the entire line and living nearby, I must say I'm getting more and more interested in owning a model, even though the front is not the most attractive. The line itself is however very intriguing (especially compared with the other surrounding JR lines) and that makes up for the whole weirdness of the design.

Ah... thanks Toni san for the clarification! I knew I heard and saw somewhere regarding the difference in liveries of the Sagami line...

Here was the short video I saw...

But that picture helped to show the differences a lot better...

Now I need to go back and check my model... from the picture on HS, the colour banding looks like it is the new colour... If it is, then the newer MA colour would be ... ?  According to MA, the newer model should be the new colour band while the older model should be the old colour band, since it is named 'Time of Debut'...

The ET-127 is calling to me for some reason.

I think it's because you have a fetish for short EMU's, especially 2 car units.

Why is it not a Doctor Yellow?  The poster specifically says this was the very first Doctor Yellow.  The 922-0 in the pic is yellow, but the photo is very washed out, that's all.

Serious? I thought the picture looked very washed-out white... Then again, aside from the East-i, i don't think i saw an inspection bullet train not is not yellow....

Nevertheless, yellow or white, i think i will get it ~ I don't have a zero series, and best yet, a zero inspector series to join his yellow 923 buddy ~

From my understanding it was originally the 1962 prototype for the 0 series Shinkansen, then was later modified to be the first Dr. Yellow after the 0 Series began operation in 1964.  This page has a few pictures along with what I assume is another test car.

Not special paint job.  Just the regular paint like the prototypes.  But the Micro Ace ones just aren't worth the value compare to the Kato versions recently released.

I think this is the first time I've seen this. Seibu and Sogō (a full subsidiary from Seven & I Holdings) is teaming up with MicroAce in a crowdfunding project to produce a 4-car 501 Series for ¥27,000: https://greenfunding.jp/sogo-seibu/projects/1679

They need to achieve a 800 set goal for the project to succeed, which kind of gives an insight in how much a project like this will cost in total (¥21.600.000) for a full production model. It's a steep price for a 4-car model, but it will almost guarantee a model produced just for you and you only. With that in mind, the comparatively high price is quite good. Even if this project doesn't reach its goal, it could be a way forward for companies like MicroAce who like to cater to a very niche market. Then again, it can also be off-putting for impulse-oriented buyers who like to see the model first before purchasing it. I'm not interested at all in this particular model, but I'm interested in how this experiment will turn out!

Interesting concept... A great idea, but again, how would it look like? Does this mean they will only go ahead with the production if they met the 800 sets target? It's a nice idea and maybe a step forward for future N scale train models, but like Toni, i'm not a fan of the train itself...

Will overseas buyers be allowed to participate in this?

This idea has already been tried out successfully in the UK, albeit for contemporary models where there's still a huge gap in the market, as unlike Japan coverage of the modern British N gauge scene is still very patchy.

Japan is fortunate in having Tomytec to produce obscurer older models, I wonder why they're going down this more ambitious route?

It is a VERY nice livery which was the reason for my reservation. Plus I'm starting to move toward shorter trains since they look better on my layout.

Why didn't they just ask Tomix for a Tomytec model? Cheaper to make, doesn't need crowdfunding and most special parts (motors/wheels) are off the shelf. Microace is much more expensive. Or maybe it was MA's idea?

I've been thinking for a while now to get the MicroAce JR Shikoku KiHa 54 and 121 series when they're re-released this month, but they're still so much more expensive than other models. MicroAce prices are about the same as you pay for a Tomix High Grade model, even though we're then obviously talking about other trains.

The KiHa 54 will also be released by Tomytec soon, and together with the power unit can be bought for about 5500 yen. The MA model goes for 11000 yen, exactly twice the price, but it does feature headlights etc. which you won't get with the Tomytec one. I wonder about the difference between level of detail.

Personally I don't rate Tomytec highly on levels of detail.  But yes MA is yards ahead when to comes to level of detail.  Motors under floors, not in windows, working headlights, tail-lights and working destination boards.  Up to you which way you go.

MA is worth every cent if you want a full functioning highly detailed running model.

p.s. I calculate the Tomytec version to be around 6000 yen. 2500 for the 2x KiHas, 3000 for the motor, 500 for half of trailer kit.

Ah, yes, I forgot about the trailer accessories and that Tomytec motors that are visible through the windows. Tomytec really should start making their motor units lower. Together with the lightning and higher level of detail I probably should go with the MA one.

The difference between Tomytec and MicroAce is mainly the lights and the visibility of the motor unit through the windows (at least for me). I'm not sure, but for roughly a thousand yen more it's probably better to upgrade the motor unit to a new Greenmax one where the motor is below the windows: http://sinshonan2.exblog.jp/24719811/ at least then the problem of the visible motor is gone. Lights can be installed with a bit of ingenuity and patience anyway, so if you're willing to do that, a Tomytec option might be the best choice.

Hrmm... but that's already getting closer to the price for the MA one. And I'm not sure if I want to go hacking the lightning into the Tomytec models. That's not really my thing. And I'm not sure whether you can replace the bogie parts of the GM motor units with the proper parts from the Tomytec model. Looks like you can.

Looking at the MA model and the Hokkaido Tomytec model, I feel like the MA has better detailing, but it's difficult to see through the poor images:
