It looks like the nature of the show may be changing. In the past this was a manufacturers show. But this year Hobbyland Pochi, a used model train retailer has et up a sales station. This video shows much of the stock.

I'm going to use a winding mechanism and string... already designed. π Done a trial print, and it slides really easily. I seem to have got the free-play in the guides just about right first time. π Ps.. when finished, this will be nearly 1m tall ! Anyone interested in the .stl files when I finish ?

JR East has suspended closures of Midori no Madoguchi ticket offices
miyakoji replied to mojo's topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
I agree Tony, when I was buying anything other than a local ticket, my preference was to buy it from a person. I could show them a highlighted schedule or otherwise communicate so I wasn't putting 15000 yen into the machine only to not get what I wanted. I wonder if JR East's perception was that there wasn't enough demand (they should have reporting on volume per sales channel), or they were trying to reduce costs, or something else. -

For me the difference between KATO and Tomix containers, whether ISO tank or standard, is the variety. Tomix and KATO make different ones so you get more variety with both. That's my take.
-
I am thinking about purchasing Tomix 3175, 3169 and 3127 ISO 20 foot tank containers. They are more expensive than the Kato ISO 20 foot containers. Does anyone here have them and how do they compare to the Kato ISO containers? A photo of some Tomix Yamato containers that I purchased three or four years ago. I'm trying not to stray to far off topic....

What did you order or the post deliver? (Japanese N Gauge)
deathletter replied to bc6's topic in General
@chadbag I have more of the Kato koki 200 8042 versions (I got good deals on them) along with a Tomix or 2. I have many more Kokis because I am a JR/JNR freight guy. I do have some passenger cars but I would like to get rid of most of them. -

@deathletter That's a lot of tank containers. That's cool. I have a small assortment of the tank sort and KoKi 200 but you have me beat by a long mile. -

typically airlines to Asia (at least Japan) give even the lower classes one or two bags checked at no cost. (But not anywhere else I've seen). We always are at the limit of bags and the last few times bought new cases in Japan and brought them back paying the fee for a second (since AA only allowed one, unlike JAL and ANA) (no use paying the fee to get an empty case there). We always bring back a ton of stuff, only a minority of which is train stuff usually. I guess the Japanese airlines hold that level of service and other airlines feel compelled to try and keep up with it. We've never had permanently lost bags and only once had a delayed bag on the arrival in Japan -- United didn't get one of our bags on the plane and paid us to get some clothes and stuff as well as delivered the bag a day or two late. -
After track laying, I went into ballast and ground detail. I covered all the track in painters tape to protect it from the glue and ballast. Using woodland scenic products, I tried to match the ballast color as best I could. A mix of two greens and brown ground cover was used to make the grass and natural ground cover.

With the wiring down and to be later organized. I did a test run of all the tracks and points. Began to think about the small town layout as well.

So because of apparent file size constraints. Iβll have to reply to my starting post a few times. The top layer of my layout is purple insulation foam from Home Depot, painted a basic grey (left over from house painting). I laid out my track in the shape I wanted and traced it out in pencil. I cut some holes under the switch points and power supply track to run wires below. once the wires were in place. I began to pin down the track. Little by little, the layout took shape

In December of 2022 I made first trip to Japan and fell in love with its rail network and history. I even went to the KATO stores in Tokyo and Kyoto and bought my first N scale and first Japanese model trains. Even made a stop at the Kyoto Railway museum. Fast forward to May of 2023 I had purchased more trains, track, and accessories to begin building a new layout. It took about two months to build and detail, but for my first layout since I was a kid, Iβm happy with it. below, you see how it was built from ply board and foam. My initial track planning and laying, and later detailing.

The seller lowered the buy it now price by more than 25%.
