Arrived today, a “used” set of Thomas, Annie, Clarabel, Henry and some Troublesome Trucks I managed to snag on eBay.  Condition is very good - almost as new.

very nice!  i used to have several of the TGV LLdC but sold them all.  now i regret it :)  The two look like they cost you a pretty penny, but, well, nice things cost money.

They weren't cheap, but significantly under retail [emoji13]. It's a nice set for being older!!!

Did kato make add on sets for the LLdC? Or was it just the 6 car set?

Wow, nice package! I quite like the livery of the 165 series.

Thanks! I like the livery too that's why I got this... Also a Limited Edition set bearing 98xxx is always a good collector's item ~  :P

Another parcel came in last night, with many mystery items in a mystery box.

More vehicles for my town, this time long freight lorries. More buses too, cant get enough of them!

Toei buses are a plently here, love their liveries~

Also finally managed to complete my Tomytec 'All island' bus collection after missing out on the first few. :) \

The last are the 3rd party interior lights arrived. More on that in the lighting trains section ~

Busy day last night!  :)

It really does looks like Singapore might start sinking soon, if you don't slow down.. And selling 1 train isn't going to do much good either =)

That's the spirit! Buy away!  :P

Perhaps I can consider selling another train set?  :P

Another parcel was dropped off yesterday, this time from MTP.

A Kato E217 equipped with interior lights from Yahoo Auctions. I've always wanted an E217 and 8 is a nice number for the consist, so this set fulfilled that along with a nice price tag and pre-equipped interior lights. Hoha!

JR 321 series. Guilty of buying way too many JR East commuter trains (the recent influx of E233s) and Never forgetting the West (Nishi Nihon), time to reinforce them with their bread & butter commuter train set. Love how Tomix included the destination boards so we could change them whenever we like! :)

An a nice E231-1000 carriage to complete my E231-1000 to a prototypically correct 10 car consist~ Nice...

I remember riding a 321 back in 2005 I think. Mmm, new train smell :). I was surprised at how quiet the interior was, it seemed as quiet as limited express types.

Didn't you already get a 321 series a while back and then sold it?

Good memory! Yap, it's a Deja vu for me. Dumb me selling it away that time to regret now... But luckily able to find it back, together with its add-on set. The 300 series which I also sold away is my other regret...

Interesting... I rode the 321 series back in 2012 and in recent 2015... Short travel, from Shin-Osaka to Osaka to connect to Shinkansen. Feels normal like any other train.... The 201 series running the Osaka Loop is much 'jerky'...

What is a "normal train"? :P For me riding a "normal train" is like this: https://youtu.be/L19gdrqsjs4?t=4m35s Classic DC motor or chopper motor sounds and constantly being shaken around. Pretty much 60% or so of all Dutch trains are like this and I love it. Only the very newest express type and commuter types have quiet AC motors.

Know its not Japanese Rail, but Kato ABe*8/12 "Allegra"!!!!!!

Perfectomundo. Wish this were the first train I would purchased since re-entering the hobby. I thought my first layout would be a 2'x4' tram. Great ideas and unwise spending has me planning on a 12' leg by 8' leg. I would have saved a ton of money. I have a bunch of "why did I think I needed to buy this...." stuff.

Received the arrivals of new Kato E3 Toreiyu and lovely Tomix E1 old color last week. very happy with these wonderful sets.. :)

Funny thing is that the 2nd hand E1 set consist had 3 green cars... unbelievable.. and 2 pantograph cars. I thought the owner added two add-on cars both green cars and 1 came with panto... so this is a very nice indeed.

The E3 motor is smooth, but sounds a little bit like vacuum when at higher speed. and for E1 motor is noisy and sounds like grinds a little bit..

need your advise whether the E3 can be added with lubricant or not for smoother gear operation, since it is still new item. and what type of lubricants would suits best, where can I get it? Thanks in advance for your helps... :)

PS: forgot to tell, inside the parcel there were also assy parts of PS201 pantograph and very nice small tomix brochure... many thanks for loco1hobby... :D

Hi JR500系,

Any update on your E1 old color set? :) Fortunately, mine is working well for lights on both end cars. but for motor, it's noisy as I mentioned above... what lubricant did you use?

Hi Robert:

Good to hear that least your E1 is moving. Mine is totally not moving, even any amount of lubricant wouldn't help... Both ends of the lights were not working too.

As for why you have 3 Green Cars, I think the basic 4-cars come with 1 Green car, while the rest of the other 2 should be this add-on: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10009442  J.R. Shinkansen Type E146 (Car No.11, For Add-On) since this is also a Green car, so hence you have 6 cars with 3 green cars...

Yeah, fortunately the electrical is not a problem. Only issue of mechanism for gears and motor... Although it can run well, but I hope I can find motor or gears replacement in the future for smoother operation.

With your E1, if you have performed the checking thoroughly and be sure that the issues are in lights element and motor, the possibility is to find replacement.. I had a thought that for lightings on end cars, it should be okay if we find the assy parts from new E1 (logically it has the same design) but perhaps not plug and play and need some modification. While the motor, it's still a mystery for me what motor can be used for replacement, instead of searching the old original motor part which is seemed impossible... If I got the answer, my plan is also to find spare motors for my other three old tomix sets..

Yes, I think so, the basic set is 4 cars for 92059.. so, two add-on cars were added to the case.. :)

Finally ordered something again ... Around 55 meters worth of Peco flex track, as well as 6 turnouts and a crossing. Should be enough to get about half the helix filled with track.

I've got holidays coming up in a few days, so hopefully I can manage to get some work in on the helix. I have all the wood for it, and the frame is partially built. Just need to cut and install some cross sections, and then get the required threaded rods and washers and whatnot which will actually hold the helix in place. It's a rather crazy amount of work =)

most of times the seller especifies "Junk" by the some marks in the paint, a bad motor or he/she is a seller but not a train expert seller only does a visual inspection not a runner/light condition of the Train or Set

Yeah it was more of a liability thing so it seems. It was a toy store so they didn't know about trains it said in the description

What I *didn't* order and the post won't deliver.  Lost a yahoo auction for a GM Odakyu 3000.  Kicking myself, since it had everything that I wanted:

- crappy gm motor replaced with tomix

- uprgraded to TN couplers

- reasonable price

4946950458408.jpg?t=20140828200521

normally i'd wait until microace made a set, but, honestly, if they are asking 33,000yen plus for a simple 10-000 Toei set now, I can't see ever buying from them ever again.  And I say this as somebody who, well, is fortunate enough to be in a reasonably comfortable position.   Forget about young people getting involved in the hobby at that price.

oh well, will troll yahoo for a similar one to the above.  I guess I'm in no rush.

this would have been my first foray into GM pre-made.  While its deficiencies are obvious even from stock photos, to me it seemed to be the least bad out of several GM sets I looked at, plus it fit an important Odakyu niche.
