railsquid
And final arrival of the year, a long-sought after Tomix KiHa 58 "Alps" set: Tomix KiHa 58 "Alps" set by Rail Squid, on Flickr which should complete the recent round of DMU acquisitions. I already have the two-car Fujikyu KiHa 58 set, which will make for a 6-car set which is the most my layout can handle anyway. 13 Link to comment

James-SNMB
@Madsing, fantastic video! Great find! Detailed, concise, entertaining. Thanks for sharing. Particularly liked the "Ok, here's an eight dollar gamble! Cowabunga!" line. I felt it. Confirms my suspicion that I'm in need of two lighting kits per tram. Unfortunately, I only have 3 on hand, so I'll have to leave one until my next order, maybe post-covid or when more regular (cheaper) mail service resumes. Good thing I have a million other things to work on instead. 2 Link to comment
Kiran
I have a bunch of Japanese trains from the recent RG-Rokko shipment delivered to me today after having DCC installed. Let us start with the Kato Twilight Express Mizukaze with sound. 8 Link to comment
Kiha66
That sounds great Kiran! Do you know what sound file they put in it? Link to comment

Kiran
Now for the JR East Resort Asunaro. This is for my yet to be complete (scenic?) branch line on the main layout. I am really beginning to like these small DMU type trains. LokPilot in the motor car and a LokPilot FX in the dummy for the directional lighting. 4 Link to comment
Kiran
Continuing with DMUs, Kato Kiha 47 Aqua Liner from Kyushu. If I remember correctly, Tomix does a model which is more prototypical but it was double the price. 4 Link to comment
Kiran
One more DMU in this batch. Tomix 98022 KIHA40-1700 Nagamare (South Hokkaido Railway). Again with LokPilot and LokPilot FX. 4 Link to comment

I could not figure out what the printed instructions were all about just from the drawings in them. Here's another video for this model: In my opinion there's a lot of wasted time in this video, but the shots of the drive mechanism show really remarkable engineering. It's almost comical looking that you can run one end section of this tram around by itself, since this model has no traditional continuous chassis like Tomytec and Modemo use. Mine runs smoothly, too. Rich K. 1 Link to comment
E231-500
I finally got my 1000 series LEX Hiroden LRV (Kato) Very impressed on how smooth it is with the tiny drives. Interior lights were easy to install but I only wish the destination boards on the front and rear lit up. Link to comment
Yugamu Tsuki
Convenience Store and Mall top notch. Camp Site, Convenience Store parts, motorcycles are sticky from resin release probably. Will need to wash them well. Christmas market, will need to plaster over everything or hide them in the background after painting. The market was an extruder print it looks like and has really bad layers/ layer gaps. Other than that I'm quote impressed with these, especially the buildings. 5 Link to comment
Kiran
Done with the DMUs for this batch. There is a 2 car EMU though. Kato IR Ishikawa Railway Series 521 4 Link to comment
Kiran
Kato's Tokyo Metro's Marunouchi Line. No idea what I am going to do with this on my layout. But that's the line I used a lot when I was in Tokyo for 3 weeks. So, this is a nostalgia purchase. Turns out that the Em13 doesn't really fit well into the motor car. So it had to be hardwired. 5 Link to comment
Tony Galiani
Added another set to my Hokkaido collection. Finally learned what the design signifies - Mount Hakodate. Tony Galiani 8 Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
I have several rather boring but necessary things on order... Right before Christmas I order a uCon S88 master and uCon Railspeed. The S88 master will offload the occupancy detection from my ECoS, and instead feed them to the computer through the network. The Railspeed is for quick and accurate measuring of a locomotive's speed for each decoder step, so the software knows the exact speed of each loco. Haven't heard back from the place I ordered them since, but I expect they're on Christmas holidays, so hopefully I'll hear from them soon 🙂 2 new soldering tips for my soldering station. My 2 most used ones broke shortly after each other, but then again, they were at least 15 years old. Of course, the timing sucks since they broke down just when I was making a lot of progress with soldering the brass kits. Ordering these isn't quite as easy, since my soldering station is a professional rework station which not many stores sell A bottle of purple loctite thread lock, since my old Tamiya thread lock had expired. I need this for the screws that keep the gears of brass locomotives in place. Without it, they'll eventually unscrew themselves I've found out A Lokpilot 5 fx DCC function decoder with Power Pack for the WaFu22000 A Lokpilot 5 micro DCC loco decoder, not sure yet for which train, possibly the Tomix JNR type 72/73 Gotemba line, or 1 of the Kato 8620s, or the Kiso Forest Baldwin Various turnouts which I ordered several months ago, but which are still on backorder Some prewired 0402 warm white LEDs, hopefully for use with the WaFu22000 Essentially, my model train related projects are pretty much on hold now until some of this stuff arrives 🙂 5 Link to comment
JR 500系
Another parcel dropped off from Ami using EMS: My first parcel for 2021! Yap those key chains are pretty cute, they come with the departure jingle! Yeah i'm a BIG kid Loving this boxes over the usual bus collection ones~ Somehow this feels like a bus stop stand~ Didnt get the secret unfortunately... I sighed when i saw the coach pop up... But oh well, the coach is pretty nice anyway! And my first ever damaged bus from a new item arrival... The rear axle was broken into two once i removed the bus from its box... this is saddening, but oh well, nothing a little super glue cant fix! 8 Link to comment

gavino200
It's Peco code 55 flextrack. Not really a Japanese product but it's for use on a Japanese layout so I'm posting it here. I like it. I'm so used to Unitrack that the track here without plastic ballast looks impossibly small. The rails also seem to have a slight bronze sheen so I need to make sure I didn't buy the right kind. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it. The black and red thing is a "free" LED from the vendor. It's incredibly bright and may be useful for something. Who knows. 4 Link to comment
Kiha66
I've noticed the bronze sheen with peco track before when helping a friend with his HOn30 layout. I would love to send track from each manufacture to a materials science lab, and find up just what metal composition each use for their rail. 1 Link to comment

MicroAce Keio 1000 series by Rail Squid, on Flickr JR: Well, what do you have to say for yourself?RS: It was dirt cheap.JR: That's what they always say. And how is this supposed to fit into the theme of your Chuo Line-focussed layout?RS: Well, m'lud, the Inokashira Line does end at Kichijoji, moreover I am entitled to invoke Personal Memory Rule One as I once lived close to Shimokitazawa Station and have travelled on these many times.JR: I see. And it's a MicroAce, so no doubt dirt cheap because it was a bad runner? RS: Indeed, m'lud. But it was a doddle to fix.JR: Hmm. No doubt it had one of those black membranes fused to the chassis which had to be scraped off in flakes? RS: Yup, m'lud.JR: (winces) Very well. But I see it has two cross-arm pantographs and one single-arm one, is that not a sign of a previous owner's bodged amateur repair job?RS: M'lud, this arrangement appears to have been an experimental fitting of a single-arm pantograph before they were subsequently adopted for the entire class.JR: Typical MicroAce niche prototype choice, I suppose. Very well, but what do you intend to do about those massive gaps between cars? I see the motor unit has the typical even-larger-gap.RS: I intend spending a significant portion of the purchase price on Tomix couplings, m'lud.JR: Mad as a hatter. The accused is released, though be warned if I see you here with Keikyu or Keisei stuff, I will take a very dim view. I will be going away for a very long time. Das Steinkopf
My last order for 2020 and first delivery for 2021 arrived today, I finally got my hands on some Kato Hobby Centre #6 points and the ENEOS trucks. I also splashed out on a Kato Shirasagi, given that it is one of the few JR West trains to travel on the Tokaido Honsen, I have always had a soft spot for the “Rice Cooker” and also had the opportunity to ride one between Owari Ichinomiya and Nagoya back in 2017. 10 Link to comment
KateM
My last order of 2020 finally arrived. My first order from Hobby Search, everything went fine. The signals are beautiful, I'm looking forward to using them in my next layout. A lot of cables for my planned stuff 🙂 Also got one-sided platform extension, the last piece for my large central platform I'm working on. I was so exciting to have it that I immediately opened it and tried to assemble the full platform. Even forgot to include it in the photo above 🙂 Looks great, definitely will look even greater after all parts and stickers are added. Unfortunately it turned out that the one-sided platforms with lightning miss some parts that the non-lit version includes. I really don't want to buy a non-lit platform just to get some extra casts, hopefully someone has unused ones. Probably a lot of people as the casts I'm missing are mostly used only when combining two one-sided platforms together. Just 30 more posts to get access to trading part of the forum, I have to be patient 🙂 5 Link to comment
JR 500系
Well... 2 more parcels came dropping in... December is an expensive month.... The Hinotori and LEX mover arrives! Yes totally agree with the others the LEX mover looks beautiful! Tempts me to get the Picoolo and Picoola... This is another strange thing you see with the Hinotori case when you first open it... Really BRIGHT red and plastic wrapped for the end cars, sweet! Really loving this one now! Bears resemblance to the GSE 70000! The next parcel is a small one: The MicroAce Kiha E120 (i ordered the E131s too but they are now stuck in Japan since the COVID-STOPPED-SHIPMENT days...), a Kato light for the LEX (yes i am missing one) and the Geodude who was in the bargains bin and was TOO delicious to pass... This guy is really pretty cute! Love the graphics and at that price point, i got a steal! The E120... I missed the very first run and was always looking for it but couldnt bear to pay such a high price for them on the after market.... Luckily i waited and MA re-relased them with a whole bunch of newer ones! 10 Link to comment
