Remembering to call is the tough part. Okay, I got a response after contacting DHL by telephone yesterday. The gentleman I talked to said I got charged with a customs fee because an account number was not listed on the shipment. I am not sure what he is talking about because I don't see an account number on the shipping documents. I also contacted the company that I am doing business with yesterday and got a reply today. Of course, they aren't going to take responsibility for anything. They never do. I am going to contact DHL again and see if I can get some clarification. I think I will also contact the customs office as well and see if I can get an answer from them. Wish me luck. 3 Link to comment
cteno4
That’s kind of what some of the things I saw said, certain things can trigger a customs review and you get charged fees for the “review” even if in the end it’s determined you don’t owe any customs. The account number sounds suspect. It it was sent as a personal purchase there are no customs accounts needed, thats only for wholesale AFAIK. I’m sure DHL loves to throw a fee in when they can! jeff Link to comment
Taxman
Not model trains, but Mrs Taxman bought me a book that shipped from the UK for Christmas a year ago. My facts may be slightly off, but it came to just over CAD20, they (I believe correctly) assesed GST (Canadian VAT) of about CAD1.40 and then about something like CAD14 in brokerage fees to walk it across the border because of the GST. disturbman
After years of resisting and being on the fence about the front design of that train, I finally got convinced to get a Nankai Rapi:t as I have been moving toward a more Kansai centric collection. Felt very much like Christmas unwrapping this. Amazing Looking train, instant love. I guess I might have to get some other Nankai train to keep it company. 16 Link to comment

Finally! A new train! 🙂 A good choice! While i'm not exactly a Nankai Rap:t fan, it's quite a very unique train that's bound to catch attention on the layout.... And yes, Then that's the Nankai Series 50000 [Peach x Rapit Happy Liner], Nankai Series 2000 Fast Edition Debut Ver., Nankai Series 10000 (Current Color / Transition Period Logo), Nankai Series 7100 Medetai Train and the list goes on ~ 😛 1 1 Link to comment
disturbman
Hahaha. Thanks @JR 500系, I was actually trying to get a Nankai Medetai when I lost an auction and decided to get this one instead... Edited October 21, 2020 by disturbman Link to comment
Lina_Blue
Sorry I didn't write in the last few months. Some [good] stuff happened, but first: I got a Kitty for my collection. And a Series 0-7000. Both are Tomix. 18 Link to comment
beakaboy
A couple of sets I won recently on a local auction site. Just over NZ$100 per set. The 205 set has had a replacement chassis fitted at some stage, as you can see by the colour compared to the rest of the set. Both sets are very nice runners. 9 Link to comment

As you and I suspected, the value of the package triggered the customs fee. If the value of the package is more than $800.00, then a customs fee will be charged. Their were some pretty pricey items in this shipment. 😲 1 1 Link to comment

I think they need to do the customs review on the >$800 as they are handling the navigation thru customs so they just auto charge you that even though your trains have no duty to pay. Anything to get a fee for just saying toys, no duty! good to know this with DHL. thanks! jeff Link to comment

I know my almost $3k UPS from Germany didn't pay a fee... I'd push back just because I'd be pissed off. Link to comment
Pauljag900
I recieved a package from Outland models of 21 buildings,so a pretty big and heavy box, from China, over £100 in total, £5 postage and no customs charges, came straight to my door, just lucky I guess. i d decided on a superhero theme for this layout,Batman,Spider-Man,superman etc.😂😂 but all the decent quality items I could find are too big,the smaller ones are too toy like. Then I came across these, Bandai,Dragon Ball battle figures.I sent for one and it arrived today,8cm high and nicely made,£6. I did a bit of research and as far as I can tell they re comic book characters, any further info from you guys will be very welcomed. so the theme is an exhibition around the city of these characters, giant statues will be placed around the city. The plaza area entrance may look like this, obviously I ll remove the plastic stand and glue them in place Edited October 26, 2020 by Pauljag900 10 2 Link to comment

I saw a type 90 tank and wanted to get it but I was worried that it would seem oddly big compared to the figures. Link to comment

Even 1:160 modellers use them because that's the common military models scale. Of course, the Maus will have more noticeable cubic mass than any other tank used for GuP. Our package shipped on 12 October, arrived on Saturday the 24th. Edited October 27, 2020 by Cat 1 Link to comment
