JR 500系
A few parcels came in the last few days... A very small parcel from HS, mainly getting these from the bargains bin and the decals for the Tomix E2 series... nice of Ami to send me the 313-8000 central liner replacement parts in such a large parcel... There was nothing inside except for a really small package... mainly the gangway parts... And a pre-order box from Ami: Love those postcards! These S140 bridge pieces are pretty nice for making a nice bridge scene... The Kiha-85 series Nanki ~ looks almost the same as the older kiha-85, except for the additional part for 'deer-ramming' ... It will be interesting to see how many formations of the Kiha-85 I can run with the additional motor part too! Also, nice of Kato to provide 2 pieces of the destination board since the kiha-85 does so many types of services and we can change the service names ~ The 373 series re-release... I like this set so I can now join them with the previous Iidasen Hikyoekigo` set for a nice 6-car set to run as the 'Tokai' service from Tokyo to Shizoka ~ Though I would have loved it if the service name on the front is a changeable part like the 483 series instead of decals.... 3 Link to comment
serotta1972
The headlights are the same as the E3-2000 new color, as MTP has posted pictures of it on his website that shows this: https://www.modeltrainplus.net/products/kato-10-1255-e3-2000-series-shinkansen-tsubasa-new-color-7-car-set Now I wonder if the much older Kato E3s mainly 10-221 and 10-222 have this feature... I doubt so though, since they are much older models... maybe those with these models can check them out... Those twin color lights look very nice indeed ~ Ah, so the new E3-2000 both Old and New Color have the multi-color headlights - funny I din't notice it on my Tsubasa New Color before. I just checked my other Kato E3's - 221 and 222 and they are all white. Yavianice is correct though that the red lights are hard to see unless you turn off the lights on the E3-2000's. I'm beginning to develop this bad habit of buying a whole consist rather than just a basic 6 car set, uh oh. 3 Link to comment
Rod.H
This lot turned up today, a mixed pre-order & normal package Auspost hasn't been providing tracking updates to Japan Post, which is making things interesting. 2 Link to comment
JR 500系
Just received the beautiful 922-0 First Doctor Yellow 0 series from our good friend at Loco1... I must say, I am glad I got this! It really is nice! I wasn't a huge fan of the 0 series, but when in real model it does look pretty nice with its rounded nose and the bright yellow and blue stripe really makes it for this! Huge thanks to Suica san and Sascha san for pointing me to Loco1! Cheers! 8 Link to comment

JR 500系
train 001.JPG I have a query regarding the tomix 1521 magnetic decoupler rail track... It seems to function as a magnetic de-coupling, correct? Is this video what it's primarily function is? Original video here on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMGW4ZS9b9g by youtube user: HK4210cargo If it is, this is a mighty good function to have for my new layout inside the yard for locomotive changes, especially so if the layout is concealed! Automation is good! :) If so, is there any specific couplers to be deployed on the trains in order for these magnetic de-couplers to work? And if so, does anyone happen to have the part numbers for them, and do they only exist for Tomix only, or do Kato also have them? Link to comment

I initially thought the 0 series was ugly, but it turned out fine in model... maybe the coloring has something to do with it... I don't know if I can say the same for the usual Tokaido White and blue coloring... Nah Jeff, the 700 series is Beautiful! I like the duck bill, it's really cool and nice! I just happened to NOT have a 700 series (i used to have one but stupidly sold it away) and now i only have the 700-7000 Railstar... Link to comment

I just did a quick test and discovered that I'll need to change the Kato loco couplers in order make the Tomix uncoupler function with them. As there's obviously a small magnet on the stem of the Tomix coupler in the loco. My other option is change all my couplers to one that's compatible with magnetic uncouplers. That means I too am interested in what couplers I should be looking for. Edited June 16, 2017 by Rod.H Link to comment

Actually you can get magnetic couplers for many Tomix locos and rolling stock and some of these will work with non Tomix rolling stock, but you can just get tiny neodymium magnets and glue them under the rapido couplers near the downward facing mechanical uncoupler pin, with the right side facing down. The idea is that they should be repelled by the uncoupler magnet and that would pretty much convert any kind of rapido couplers to be uncoupler compatible. 1 Link to comment
Das Steinkopf
The first of my long running list of pre orders since my April trip arrived today, the 373 Series will be used for Inaji services and will join my 373 Series Hikyouekigo for use on a future Iidasen layout, some more containers as I just can't help myself when it comes to Hogarakadou containers, also included is headstones to be used in the graveyard at Kamisakaemachi and some other bits and pieces. 4 Link to comment

I have the same UV-19As on order, is the design the same on both sides? The Hogarakadou containers are fractionally taller by about 0.3mm, both are good models but overall the Hogarakadou containers have a better finish and level of detail, that said you would expect so with the Hogarakadou containers costing double the price of the Tomix ones. I am only keeping one of the Tomix containers as I got rid of the old logo ones when I sold my 92491 and I am getting rid of one of the new logo versions, this was due to duplication of numbers with 38020 with the old logo and 38028 with the new logo, my OCD cannot handle duplication of numbers. I have attached a photo for comparison, the Tomix one is on the right. Edited June 16, 2017 by Das Steinkopf 3 Link to comment
JR 500系
Another very small order from HS, mainly the Kato Kiha-85 motor chassis and its gangway connectors, along with some Greenmax rail markers and a service crew shed... Love how Kato always provide spare parts for their sets, and how HS provide them for overseas sales... it's hard to find these spare parts as I think only the Kato shop in Japan has them, and they are very important if something happens to your Kato train set and requires spare replacement.... This additional motor of the kiha-85 will allow me to run all types of consists together as I already have the older 10-316 Kiha-85 Hida 7-car set; including some weird services 2 or 3 car sets... :P Likewise can be said for Tomix, if only they did like what Kato does we would have been able to obtain an additional motor chassis for the 313-8000 Central liner and we can then run them separately as different 3 car sets ~ 2 Link to comment
serotta1972
Got for a great price - Kato 10-1408 115-300 Shonan Color complimented by a Kato 4862-2 Kumoni 83-804. And finally gave in and got the Kato 7009-2 DF50. Can never have enough 115's in the Shonan Color, actually one of them is a 111. :) 10 Link to comment
Kiha66
Looks great Junior! Cant wait for mine to arrive. That DF50 is pretty neat too, but now you'll have to get some more fright cars. :P 1 Link to comment

I have Hogarakadou Super Green Shuttle Liner containers and I have to keep them separated from the Tomix ones (which have a more accurate shade of green but the Hogarakadou ones look more worn) with some Eco Liner containers. Rod.H
This turned up today: Yeah, the set's not right for the C282 loop Unlike: Which is perfectly understandable as it's my most numerous DMU type Now to apply stickers, that'd happen sometime. 9 Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Yeah, the set's not right for the C282 loop train 002.JPG Actually, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Just have one car (or part of a car) hang over and pretend the doors that don't align with the platform won't open (door-cut). Happens at quite a few stations in Japan: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%89%E3%82%A2%E3%82%AB%E3%83%83%E3%83%88 1 Link to comment
Khaul
I went to Reeds Hobbies in San Diego and got a couple of goodies. I have already opened the bag with 12 wheel sets... and compared them to the silver wheel sets in my toki 25000. And decided the new wheels look a lot better. I'll test the toki performance on the tracks with the new wheel sets when I am back to Sydney. 6 Link to comment
