Vato
Hi every one which dcc decoder I can use with KATO EF57? Link to comment
katoftw
I looked at the ASSY list on the Kato website and it came back with 3066-2G for the light board. Check it yours is the same. If you have any of the following locos, you can check fitment:- 3071 ED76-5003073 EF303068 ED163012 ED733013 ED76 late type3059 EF510-03065-1 EF510-500 Hokutosei3065-2 EF510-500 Cassiopeia3060-1 EF65-500 (P-type)3060-2 EF65-500 (F-type)3061-1 EF65-1000 late-type3062-1 EF15 standard form3062-2 EF15 final form3063 EF163064-1 EF80 primary form3066-2 EF81 Twilight3066-3 EF81 general color 3067-1 EF81-3007011-1 DE10 cold type 7011-2 DE10 subtropical7010-1 DD54 Blue Train haulage7010-3 DD54 initial form Edited January 14, 2015 by katoftw Link to comment
E6系
It's actually a Digitrax DN163K4a repackaged by Kato. Depending on your location it might be cheaper to buy from your local retailer. Link to comment
Dani
I used a D&H for the old Kato model (Kato 3003). Here you can see my way of installing the deco in this locomotive: http://www.clubncaldes.com/2015/02/ef57-kato-3003-dcc-digitalization.html Cheers, Dani Link to comment
Atomsk
I suspect that a TCS K1D4 will also work for this application. Link to comment
Vato
I already install digitraxx and is cheaper the tcs Link to comment
Melandir
I suspect that a TCS K1D4 will also work for this application. No, the K1D4 is longer than the Digitrax, the K6D4 is the correct one, but have one smd led only I have mailed to TCS asking if it's possible for them to create a version with 2 smd leds instead of 1 only I usually prefer TCS decoders due to their Railcom support Link to comment
Vato
I prefer TCS too, but when u use a lot of them (decoders) price is more important Link to comment

Have you looked into that one? Link to comment
Melandir
Yes I did, and the price of the TCS was too high for me, at the end I resorted to the Digitrax one that I have been able to source locally Link to comment

I understand the thing about the cost. Link to comment
Melandir
Digitrax and TCS decoders are board replacement, both are nearly plug and play Link to comment

I guess the question is, is it the correct one? No one really goes out and says what their board is a replacement for. Edited March 20, 2018 by chadbag Link to comment
westfalen
One thing to beware of is that although the board might fit the headlight LEDs might not be in the correct place because Kato has a habit of doing them differently in every model they make and the decoders made by the American manufacturers are specifically designed to fit Kato's U.S. locos. I usually go with one of NGDCC's decoders on which the SMD LEDs can be placed where ever you need them, such as this example of an installation for the EF56. http://www.snjpn.com/ngdcc/de29/de29x2_56k.htm Edited March 13, 2018 by westfalen Link to comment
Kiha66
I have the new design of the EF57, digitrax decoders for the DD51 (DN163K1D) and a general one (dn163k4a) fit in the model but need slight trimming of one light pipe to work. I need to find out how to get my hands on some of those NGDCC decoders. Link to comment

Despite what the ordering instructions page of his website says about credit cards he now accepts Paypal. The last few orders I made he sent me a Paypal invoice for the amount owing and a day or so later my decoders were on the way. Link to comment
