Trains in anime/manga

Ace Attorney (Anime Adaptation)

Episode 12:

Seibu 4000 series in "traditional yellow".

Real units never had this liviery (such colors were reserved for commuter trains, unlike the 4000 wich is an express)

Trivia: in the original game, this train was depicted as a yellow look-alike a Tobu 6050:

Episode 13:

Odakyu 5000 series:

Episodes 14-15-17:

A funny mix between a KiHa 52 and the above mentioned Odakyu 5000.

Probably (to contain costs and time) the latter 3D model was re-used as a base for this fictional railcar.

Probably everyone knows it, but a few pictures from the digimon series:

http://marron.extracaffeine.com/odaiba/yurikamome.html

(the series pretty much copied the real tokyo without any modifications)

I remember the 2001 Digimon movie also featured Amtrak's California Zephyr (Phase III Genesis-series loco).

Team Bullet Train from "Transformers: Robots in Disguise" consisted of Railspike (500 Series), Rapid Run (RailStar 700 Series) and Midnight Express (E4 series). There was even one episode where they were assigned the task of escorting a preserved D51, affectionately known as "Grandpa".

Survival Game Club! Episode 1:

JR Chuo-Sobu Line 209-500 series

(can be told from an E231-0 because of the white painted front mask. E231-0s have this portion unpainted, like the rest of the body)

Cut-up Tokyu 5000 series (Now used as a Tourist information office in Shibuya), depicted with a lowered pantograph (unlike the real one).

Lupin The Tird: Return the treasure (2003)

Spanish RENFE 440R series (original 1975 440s refurbished in 1993), at Barcelona Estaço De Franca.

Depicted as an international limited-express bound for Berlin (in reality these are just outer-suburban and regional trains).

Well spam made me discover this thread so I suppose it has uses!

There's an old-looking railcar/railbus in Spirited Away that I wonder could someone identify?

I would say a combination of Socimi's Meitetsu 3400 and the Kubiki Railway railcar Hoji3

Girls und Panzer der Film

features an Imperial Japanese Army Railway Regiment K2 steam locomotive. It serves as the Chi-Ha-Tan Academy's dedicated land transport.

attachicon.gifK2-1.jpgattachicon.gif640px-Steam_Locomotive_type_K-2_134_at_Tsudanuma_1-chome_park_1.jpg

It's quite amazing how this little 600mm gauge locomotive is able to pull a train with 22 tanks and passenger cars from Chiba to Hokkaido. :toothy12:

attachicon.gifdon't wake up the Chihatans.jpg

Also, the K2's wheel arrangement changes from 0-10-0 to 0-8-0.

attachicon.gifK2-2.jpg

In the final scene of the movie there is also a blink-and-you-will-miss-it of a series 922 Doctor Yellow Shinaknsen and a Toden 6000 tram (unit 6665, in reality the highest number was 6290).

https://s7.postimg.org/hv5awqosr/Toden-_Doctor_Yellow.jpg

Fun fact: The 922 series Doctor Yellow is preserved in JR Central's SCMaglev Park in Nagoya and 9 Toden 6000s have been monumented in various parks around Tokyo.

New Game! Episode 1

attachicon.gifKeio 9000.jpg

Keio 9000 Series 10-car set @ Fuda Station

attachicon.gifChuo.jpg

Chuo-Sobu either a JR 209 or E231 series @ Asagaya Station

I can't really differentiate them from this shot.

No trains, but the second season of New Game starts off with something more or less related. :)

Kimi no Na wa. (Your name.)

I first watched the movie when it came out in Japan last summer, and I absolutely loved it. People who know Makoto Shinkai's works know that trains always play a more or less important role.

Now that the Blu-Ray is here, it's time for some nice screengrabs!

JR Central/West Shinkansen N700, JR Central KiHa 85 'Limited Express Hida' & JR Central KiHa 40

All your Tokyo JR commuter needs & Yamanote E235 interior

Man, I really need to see this movie!  I really love the nostalgia paint scheme on the Kiha 40 series.

That's a Taitai-line KiHa 40 with JNR revival livery. Unfortunately they've all been withdrawn from that line.

Bummer!  Hope there are still a few left somewhere, seems the JNR units are disappearing faster and faster.  I really need to get over to japan before they're all gone!

Also by Makoto Shinkai is "The Place Promised In Our Early Days", wich prominently fetaures a KiHa 40 in Morioka Colors.

A bit of trivia:

In the same period the film is set (1996-1999), the Sakahilin Railways (Sakaihlin is the real-life former Japanese island part of the USSR/Russia since 1945) brought second-hand from JR East similar trains to those fetaured in the movie.

You can also add the JR Line from Makoto Shinkai's "Your Name" and that train from his other film "5cm Per Second".

In the Ending Credits of "Wake Up Girls!", we see Sendai Station with an E2 series as Yamabiko (i think) inside:

The Movie "City Hunter: Goodbye my Sweetheart" features a fictional new Train for the Yamanote line on it's first public run:

The fun doesn't last too long however, as the train gets blown apart...

...and later on T-Boned by a car.

E237 series LEAKED FOOTAGE!

Jokes apart, it seems to be based on the Osaka Municipal Subway 70 series, at the time of the production of this OVA, it was the most modern and futuristic looking subway train in Japan.

It looks like a rusty bridge propped up on two rail carriers with the help of the crane attachment crossbeams locked onto its top. Considering the amount of trash on the left, the rust on the work cars and the bridge and that the siding seems to have a platform i'm not sure if the bridge is coming or going or it was just left there to rot after the line closed. Maybe there is more info about the line or the neighbourhood in the anime.

I love this game!

Drag straight to 1:50 and you will see a Yellow 115 series!

*Don't be mistaken by the photo of the preview video... someone has been naughty to place that photo there... It's really a nice game!

First train cameo of the Winter '18 season goes to a Tobu 10050 series local train in "Sora yori mo Tooi Basho" ("A place farther than the edge of space").  We also get  to see Tatebayashi and Morinji-mae stations, on the Tobu Isesaki Line.  A major plot development takes place at Morinji-mae.

"The Girl Who leapt Trough Time" (2006)

A central plot device is a railway crossing on the Keisei Chiba Line, prominently fetauring a Shin-Keisei Railway N800 series in original colors:
