ChrisV
Can anyone tell me who makes this Shinkansen ? Did Microace produce one in these colours ? if so - when was this released ? Thanks Link to comment
Sushi Train
Microace and Tomix Shinkansen 200 series Link to comment
ChrisV
Are they yours - if so now I hate you :D Thanks for that - I'm in search of these beauties now!! How do Microace stand up against Kato and Tomix - I don't own any Microace gear so any feedback would be great! Link to comment
Sushi Train
I like microace, more than Tomix but nothing will beat Kato in my opinion, i was hesitant about microace but have been pleasantly surprised especially with their Dr yellowdes prototypes. Link to comment
mrpig
ChrisV - I really like that 100 series fresh green. I kept putting off getting one and now I have missed the boat. You have started a great thread here, I love seeing people's different variants. To2leo - yep, you're off the Christmas card list ;).......... for the 700t as well. Why do you say it is too long for its own good? Is there a problem with it? Martijn - Nice fleet also..... I didn't even realise there was a 20th century edition of the 0 series. Let's see more. It seems a few of us like anything high speed. here are mine. 0 "30th anniversary" edition (Tomix, complete) 922 Dr. Yellow (MicroAce, complete) 100 "Last Run" edition (Tomix, complete) 200-1500 "25th anniversary" edition (MicroAce, 6 cars) 300 (Tomix, 7 cars) 400 (Tomix, complete) 500 (Kato, 8 cars) 700 "Hikari Rail Star" (Tomix, complete) 923 Dr. Yellow (Tomix, Complete) N700 (Kato, 8 cars) 800 (Kato, complete) E1 (Tomix, 6 cars) E2 (Kato, complete, couples to E3) E3 (Kato, complete, couples to E2) E4 (Tomix, 6 cars) And the Eurotrash TGV PSE (Kato, 6 cars) Eurostar (Kato, 8 cars) TGV POS (Kato, complete) Euromed (Kato, complete) ICE-3 (Minitrix, 5 car toy that smelleth) we live and learn. mrpig
Wow, all these extras snuck in while I was getting my post ready. Fantastic. ChrisV - I agree with Sushi Train, I rate MicroAce higher Tomix. I have the 922, 200, Doraemon, Rap:t & a C59. They are all very well detailed and run very smooth. Tomix's latest 400 is catching up though. Link to comment
Claude_Dreyfus
Of the three manufactorers - Kato, Tomix and Micro Ace - certainly the weakest is Tomix. With the other two, I think it depends on the actual model....one of my very best locos is the Micro Ace EF510, a truely stunning model :) Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
Martijn - Very nice roster! Alright, I can ask you this question because we are in the same boat. How would you compare the Tomix 800 to Kato 800? (I was surprised when I got my Tomix 800 to find out that it was made in China and not Japan.) I haven't really test either one all that much. The Kato has 3 decoders in it and has run a bit. The Tomix I've only tested on the rollerstand. If it comes to details though, the Tomix is slightly better. The lettering especially seems more "crisp". All in all, my favorite for general looks and details has to be MicroAce. The look and feel more sturdy than the other brands. It also helps that MicroAce makes many of the more uncommon trains. I think the difference between Tomix and Kato is negligable. Of course, all these opinions might change once I can actually run the things over longer periods of time ;) Link to comment
Bernard
Yeah Gordon - You're going to need a REALLY BIG Yard on your layout, again a nice roster. Link to comment

CaptOblivious
I have an 8-car E4 from Kato (would that be a full set or just a half-set? :P ), and that's it. I'd like a 400-series, maybe an E2, maybe an E3. But, for whatever reason, I'm just not that into Shinkansen. I find the Limited Expresses have just so much more character to them… Link to comment
scott
There *is* an amazing variety of train designs in Japan, which is a nice change when your hometown viewing choices are a bunch of blocky freight-hauling diesels occasionally interrupted by an Amtrak P42. Link to comment

I find the Limited Expresses have just so much more character to them… You would have a full length train here, however, they couple 2 trains together during peak hour for extra capacity. 1634 passengers makes it the highest capacity train in the world in this configuration. You are absolutely right, the LE's have a lot more more character and variety. I just have a thing for any fast. Cars, bikes, planes, boats and of course trains. Lets get a sister thread going to help show what is out there. Seems like a lot of people have half sets, like the Tomix 3 packs etc.Can be frustrating ... Awesome collection there. Thanks Chris. Sorry for the confusion, I meant half a full train. I have updated my post to be a bit more accurate. But it certainly was frustrating only having a 3 car Dr. Yellow for quite some time. Living in Sydney you get a bit tired of seeing the same local trains but the locomotive rosters around Sydney are very interesting - lots of vintage loco's coupled to new units less that a few years old. Great for photography. If only the local gov's would invest some money into some Shinkansen like technology and get some dedicated fast trains for the Sydney residents...anyway thats another story for another thread. Claude_Dreyfus
That's a lot of Bullets....my collection is rather smaller. All the Bullets pictured here are ful 16-car length, except the 500 - still to get the outstanding 12 carriages, and the Dr Yellow - which is a 7-car. To add to the 'high-speed' collection, I also have an 8-car Kato Eurostar... Link to comment
SubwayHypes
Wow INSANE bullet train collections, i love that display case you got set up can you post another picture? I always wanted to make a clear glass display case to model the trains on, kinda like how you see them in japanese hobby shops. I only one one shinkansen, the 700 series nozomi 8 car set which i got for 100 dollars shipped!! talk about a steal! Link to comment
