Does anyone have picks of the topside of the motor on an e257?

Just to be clear, are you asking for the top, where the seating mold fits on?

 

I can take some pictures when i get home.

 

As i remember, the chassis is the same design as the 700 or 500 shinkansen. Motor tabs connect to brass strips above motor and are held in place with a T-shaped plastic clip.

 

On the subject of E257s, as photos and videos have started to emerge of the E257-5000, I wondered whether Kato will be releasing this soon too.

I suppose that the major part of the job is done to make variants later on.

Yes, I’m very well aware of the E257-2000 in September and October but was just contemplating the possibility of the 5000 type shortly after. I assume window locations etc.. are the same and would just be a livery change rather than having to change tooling.

Kato have bumped a fair number of their June releases to the latter half of July for reasons unknown, if you look at their delivery schedule. Just FYI if you have anything pre-ordered and were expecting to pay for it this month.

 

Still better than a certain UK manufacturer who released something ten years after announcing it (and still got the shape wrong!)

At least one thing has leaked out. KATO USA will rerelease these items:

SP GS-4 steam loco 126038

SP GS-4 steam loco 126039

SP GS-4 steam loco 126310 in Daylight colors

 

to be released around October/November this year.

Not quite a leak, seeing as the postwar black pair were officially announced back in 2020 and the daylight versions were shared on the main kato page...

 

Bummed they're running the SP lines version yet again though.  They only did the postwar SP daylight once and that was almost 20 years ago.  I'll probably still pick up some articulated chair cars to add to my set even if they have the wrong lettering.

Here are the photos of the motor unit on the E257 Asuza/Kaiji

 

A motor decoder would need to be hardwired but there would be space to hide a small one in the vestibule end.

I find it disappointing kato is claiming the daylight as "new".  The model is from 2008, and they haven't even changed to new road numbers either.

Looks like i’ll have some extra cash for some interesting December releases then. I’ll expect more from you then, Kato.

 

The E3 Tsubasa makes sense for E2 buyers. Weirdly i did want a Toreiyu when it was first released but don’t find the re-run announcement that exciting. 

 

Also the 681 snow rabbits seem to be abundant in every used shop i go into. Do we need more of them?

 

Probably one of the least exciting release posters so far and we had to wait an extra week for this.

it's simple, too many windows 😪  (cars E322+E325 has been heavy modified and windows reduced, also the interiors are different... )

but one image is better than 100 words (in alternative, a JRF collection from 1979 till now can help 😂 for everything)

BTW me too, I bought both Shinkansen "collector" sets from Kato Model Center, E3 Toreiyu and 500 EVA (thanks again Michel !!!), but just because I collect all the Shinkansen, I know both are wrong but in some case is better than nothing (EVA from Tomix is better, but Toreiyu.....no choice)
