Melandir
I got an idea, I'd like to build a construction train, what wagons should I use? I have ordered a Greenmax 4709 Muitiple Tie-Tamper 09-16 Plasser & Theurer Color I'll order a Greenmax KSP2002E as soon it will be out and I have just ordered a Tomix 2771 JNR Railway Crane Type SO80 (Yellow) what I need more? Link to comment
kvp
The crane is not self propelled, so you need a locomotive to move it around. I would choose a small diesel. Also you need ballast hoppers and tie and rail carrier flatcars. (actually that crane is ancient compared to the two newer machines) Link to comment
Melandir
Thanks kvp, do you have any suggestions for hoppers and flatcar? I have not been able to find any suitable wagons that match the yellow color of the tie tamper, do you also know if there is any yellow diesel locomotive that I can use with the crane? POMU
Melandir The Greenmax 4709 tie tamper and ballast machine is motorized Tomix produced the 2777 ballast wagons (2 per set) but they only come in black. Tomix also produced the Chiki 7000 flat wagon, also in black, but have long been sold out. If you want to use your construction train minus the tie and ballast machine then a DE10 is a good small diesel to use, but doesn't come in yellow. BUT the Plasser Theurer tie and ballast machine does the whole operation itself including laying the track, then ballasting and tie tamping. A good maintenance train to use for track maintenance after would be small - DE10, ballast wagons, and the SO-80 crane. Pomu Link to comment
cteno4
There must be more MOW! Perhaps I should get a rocking horse and ride away to get more... Cheers Jeff Link to comment
POMU
Jeff Keep rocking........... :-) if you find any - let me know. The only Japanese MoW I know of other than imported machines is" Manual of Workers" - the physical labor is probably what keeps the rail lines in such superb condition. The pride and commitment of Japanese rail workers. Regards Pomu Link to comment
katoftw
A DE10 pulling a couple of Hoki800s along is a normal sight in Japan. Edited February 9, 2015 by katoftw Link to comment
POMU
katoftw Very true and accurate. No crane though. As the SO 80 crane was used more for wrecks than MOW operation. Thanks POMU Link to comment
Melandir
Thanks for your precious informations The only loco of yellow colors I have found is the DE15 2516 but I don't think that exist a model of it I'll now start to search for the wagons type you have provided Link to comment

cteno4
The greenmax are great little kits and super inexpensive. If you get some of the rubber n scale rail (a small company in the us makes some) you could make a welded rail train as well. Only problem with the greenmax loco in the kit is its just a couple of mm to small in side to take any of the super small vertical motor mechs. It might just make it with the cab routed out a lot and perhaps a small patch to look like a panel on one end of the cab. I measured it up with the parts and the tiniest bug truck motor I have and almost there. Been meaning to assemble and have a go at routing it all out. Another trick to power a small mow train is to do a generator car that is a kato or bandai power mech with just a small generator housing on it. Or even piled with equipment and hollow it out for the motor housing. Yeah Im just fascinated by mow cars of all types. The modern mow trains by plasser and theurer are captivating, alway though ti would be grand to scratch build one. There is also the kato ballast tamper. Expensive but pretty nice self propelled unit. When kato brought it back to Japan the price was very high. http://www.japanrailmodelers.org/pages/reviews/lemketamper.html http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Hobbytrain-N-23500-Plasser-and-Theurer-Duomatic-p/htn-h23500.htm Another small mow train you could do http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/1573-japanese-work-train/ And a koki800 ballast train at work with the requisite bosses overseeing with folded arms... http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/3615-bull-nose-on-the-ballast/ Arunine makes a number of very nice etched brass mow cars and engines. Easy to build and nicely detailed and decently priced http://www.modeltrainplus.net/collections/aru-nine-arumo-n-scale This one is a great mow engine with a large crane boom to boot! http://www.modeltrainplus.net/collections/aru-nine-arumo-n-scale/products/aru-nine-track-maintenance-motor-car The micro ace plows can be used as small mow locos, just take off the plows as in real life http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10061637 And the little tgw with a small folded crane http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10168393 So there is quite a bit out there, just have to sort of assemble your own configuration. But there can always be more for the mow heads! Cheers Jeff 2 Link to comment

Das Steinkopf
Does anyone know when Greenmax will release the 09-16 Tamper and KSP2002E Ballast Regulator/Dynamic Stabilizer, I noticed the 09-16 Tampers have been on pre-order for a while with reservations closed but I don't see anything regarding the release of the KSP2002E. cteno4
Das, Greenmax got stalled on these it looks like, ballast machine has not yet come out for preorder. but they made it onto a recent greenmax poster so maybe on the way! http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/3807-green-max-new-releases/page-5?do=findComment&comment=122278 jeff Link to comment
katoftw
The tie tampers have a note about their release on the greenmax website and info about its upcoming release. Link to comment
Kb4iuj
I just received two of those Bandai power trucks. Made in China. $15 ea. Not something, that'd you'd like a Kato tractor type locomotive to slowly move by on. Hence, I probably should have doled out a few more bucks and got something that barely moves along. (This is to a poster above) QC is a bit variable on them. I have four, with widely varied running qualities! It seems common for them to run better in one direction than the other. I've yet to try the Kato chassis as they're not as good a match for the B Train Shorty locos (that ladder halfway along would have to come off, as it doesn't line up with anything on the Shorty bodies) but probably will do as I need three black Bandai 4w chassis and they're showing no signs of making another batch. The Bandai 8w chassis is a much better proposition. I have six of the Power Unit 3 and two of the PU 5, all have settled down to become very acceptable runners. The 3 comes with extra ballast weights. You do need to add a drop of oil, then after some running strip them down and remove the excess from the contact strips and pickups, but that's a five minute job and they run sweetly afterwards. kvp
You could try to add the bogie power units to the locos too as it would be more prototypical too. The kato 2 axle motors are too light and stall very easily. The new 4 axle diesel loco bandai motors are smaller and could fit into older locos with less problems than type 3 emu/dmu motors. Robert46
Thanks Jeff.. :) I was aware about the greenmax tamper and in fact already ordered one.. with Lemke/Kato plasser & theurer duomatic 07-32, i just realized the model looks much better haha.. and I thought this must be the next highly sought item for those who collected plasser train but unfortunately price was not cheap.. hope this will be rereleased again in the near future.. cteno4
Robert, Great you got the greenmax, I think it's going to look nice once on the tracks and will be a bigger consist than just the Kato. It was a lot cheaper in Europe (like $110 on preorder thru a us importer) as Kato made it for lemke for that market. Then later it showed up in some Japanese stores for like twice the price (figured euro model imported to Japan was the cause). It will be interesting to compare the models when the green max gets here. I've not noticed the Kato/lemke model turning up on ebay, but really never saw it make any stir on the us n scale groups when it came out. Who knows who owns the rights to the model, Kato or lemke or what the chances for a rerelease would be. It is an odder fiddly model so might not be at the top of the list for a profit maker, but on the other hand it is only a single car to produce that can fetch a higher price tag due to uniqueness. Also don't know how rabid the mow market is in Japan. The green max is actually cheaper than the Kato and you get 2 cars! But the Kato was made for the euro market and two companies trying to take a cut before distributors... Jeff Edited July 18, 2016 by cteno4 1 Link to comment
