serotta1972
Glad you finally got to run them, you’re a patient man. You mentioned the Sunrise Express being fast as most of the Kato sets are but did you notice that the Twilight is not as fast - seems to be geared lower because at full throttle the motor is screaming but the train is not flying along the track. I didn't run it at full speed. But I'll try it and let you know. Link to comment

My Twilight runs pretty fast. Faster than it needs to go. Also, the motor isn't screaming. I wonder if you have a loose drive shaft. The Sunrise Express, is ridiculously fast. Fast enough to throw itself off the track on fairly large radius turns. 2 Link to comment
Yavianice
The tomix has lower gears for smooth slow running (says so in the product description). I haven’t noticed any screaming on my set. Link to comment

The Twilight is still fast but noticed that it’s slower than my other trains. I shouldn’t say screaming as that sounds like something is wrong but rather a nice high speed motor whine. cteno4
Check to see if the gears have any lubrication on them. Once and a while I’ve had some come with no lubrications and they sound like grinding. jeff 1 Link to comment

No it's not as fast as the Sunrise. The sunrise is a few standard deviations faster than the norm. But the Twilight is pretty fast. If need be I could calculate it's speed. Let me know. Lina_Blue
In the last few days, I was running some of my favorites and some new[ish] rolling stock. My lovely Seibu 40000 and the beautiful E353 Microwave and it's older sibling representing the Yamanote Line. A second E235 will start operating in the near future, but no reason to replace the trusty E231 (yet) ^^ My fleet of E231 wouldn't accept a E231 retirement soon anyway, else they would start to unionize ^^'' (Totaling 7 E231 and 4 E531) And my newest fully kitted (DCC, Lighting) trains in operation: E233 Keyo Line. Such a nice red, isn't it? 8 Link to comment

cteno4
We had a club meeting yesterday and I was able to get my new 485 and red Mickey Mouse 800 (forgot to bring the yellow one) out for a spin on Ken’s layout. 485 was very sooth runner, almost like it had all wheel pickup. TN couplers are nice. Mickey is going to be a hit at the train shows. cheers jeff 7 Link to comment

roadstar_na6
Here‘s my Tomix Twilight Express (92240/41/42) doing it‘s initial runs on my club‘s layout. Drives and works like a charm and even got light installed to the restaurant (?) car 🙂 5 Link to comment
Sheffie
Some track work gave me the opportunity to run the Kato EF510-500, which is still one of my favorite runners. Very smooth and reliable. You can’t blame it for this derailment. 2 Link to comment

Tokyo West
Hi all! Enjoyed running some Shinkansen, Limited Express and Commuter trains. Shinkansen 100, 300, 500, 700 L.E. JR E353, JR E259 Narita Express, JR Tokaido E231, JR Keihin-Tohoku E233, JR Joban E231. Loving the lights I got in Akihabara - they might seem pricey, but they're so worth it, especially if like me, you went to the bother of making up all the signs and the light blocking in the vending machines! I still applied them to one of my extra Tokaido cars, and one of the Keihin-Tohoku cars. I figure 'alternate timeline'...? Hey, it works as an explanation in Star Trek... 😉 I hope to get a Yamanote E235, and maybe that will get the Tokyo 2021 treatment! Link to comment
