Examining the model further, I presume the mechanism hasn't been repaired since the days when it was dragging heavy ordinance around the front, as half the gears seem stripped. Happily replacements can be sourced.

broken gears is typical defect of this and other Roco models, both half loco are mototized and both engine are joined with a shaft, so is much simple with surviving gears to try to obtain half runnig loco and half de-motorized, it's heavy and can pull enough trailers anyway

spare parts are "available" but not original, aftermarket products in delrin or brass (a little bit expensive, 4-6€ each gear but better than used 20-30 years old gears), I'm out of european collection "tribe" for a long time, but if you need I can ask where to find now

Two packs of these: https://www.ebay.de/itm/373731960061 and two packs of these: https://www.ebay.de/itm/373731960069. Not exactly cheap, OTOH the model itself was, and I like fixing stuff.

Just picked up a few CNR goodies, three gondolas and a few containers recently released by Charming.

I was lucky enough to get two gondolas from the same series out of three blind boxes. Details are very good, and general quality is amazing for the price. Edit: what I thought were moulding remnants at each corners are in fact details.

The containers are amazing. Far better than anything Japanese. I particularly love the small tabs, holes and magnetised bottoms and tops that allow for perfect stacking. The magnets also keeps the containers in position in the gondolas. It’s a very clever system. Printing and colouring looks good too. I’m slightly disappointed I missed out on the Maersk Rainbow containers.

That's how the KatoUSA containers for the Gunderson Maxi cars are. It's a nice system.

Nice! Too bad all containers don’t have this system. But it would drive the cost up installing magnets. I love magnets!

I’ll pull out my old tests on magnets for containers. I was big on this when we had the huge container yard on the old club layout. Using Museum snot got old fast, tedious. For the little 19s which I really wanted to stack easily I found just cutting a little block of expanded polystyrene foam to slide inside with a magnet glued in the center of the bottom and top of the foam worked the best. I think it was a 3x1 or 3x2mm magnet that worked best with enough hold to keep it in place but still allow a bit of slop as I was certain getting all magnets placed perfectly was going to be hard. Just wanted something fast to make and easy and removable so I could switch container easily and not have to outfit all my containers at once but build up as needed. Other option was to glue in end strips with a magnet, And toyed with making a gluing jig for corners but just seemed like it was headed to a lot of work considering how many I need to do. And any systematic problems I would need to rip it out of the containers.

Figured I can cut the foam blocks with stops on the table saw and crank them out fast. Then just make a jig the block can go into that has a small disc located where the magnet should go and press in to make a dimple. Flip block and do the other side. Then glue magnet into dimples. Other option was a jig in drill press to drill a hole all the way thru just a bit smaller than magnet diameter and just push them in, but need to test if that would work. Next step was to try to figure out production line and crank out a couple of dozen to see how much labor it is to do at scale. I also need to look at all the various containers I have to see if there is a wide variation in inside dimensions.

Did anyone else get this one? DB ET425 "DB Regio" from Kato. Reminds me of many past trips to Deutschland. Looks great and runs like you would expect from Kato.

I got the DB ET425 too, part of my monthly train subscription at MTP 😁 - seems lately I’ve been getting one of my pre-orders on a monthly basis. Today I received the Bachmann ALC-42 Amtrak 50th Anniversary “Day 1 Livery” #301. It’s a beautifully done model, I’m impressed.

I have the earlier release of this (I have the "Frauen Mannschaft" world cup liveried version).  From what I've read it is the same basic mechanism as the previous release.  Mine runs excellently.

I got one for a mate from the club, even with shipping from Japan and taxes it cost him 1/4 less than Lemke's German RRP 😄

The full orange TGV?

of course!  😄  when possible I try to have only full train formations, with this one was really hard to do because the Minitrain production has been really limited (time and quantity)

another brother for my Lima and Kato family 😍

It's a real beauty. I'm torn between hunting one down and hopefully, patiently waiting for a re-release from Kato. I'd love to see some pics when you take it for a run!

well.. a re-release I really hope NOT!

the PSE was not the best Kato product (according with the major 82' french magazines), obviously the mechanic was beautiful (excluding the coupling between M1-8/R1-8, but the nose and the color was wrong, instead the Lima (and obviously the evolution with Minitrain Renov1) run very bad, but the shell form and colors match the real train (Ok, bad pantos apart)

I hope in a NEW Kato release with the last TGV's standard, but in the meantime I have enough spare parts and junk trains for kitbashing (next step.. La Poste and IRIS)

there is no vaccine for TGV-irus 😋💉

(tomorrow I try to do a better photo of the complete train set...)

well, photos of complete trainset OK, about "better" ..... mmmhhh sorry, but my smartphone is too old and my eyes are.... another history

but maybe are photos of models that not everybody know the existence....

(and also I realized that I bought too many TGV Minitrains... but for kitbashing are the best base 😉)

obviously, if you have one Kato it's enough, but Minitrain is a different version modified like in the real life

(Renov1 - the grid panels on the locos, the boogie with pneumatic SR10 suspension and the small cut on lower corner chassis, the BAR windows arrangement)

compared with Lima or Kato, probably this one is the much hard to find and complete correctly (this train has been released during the "agony" of Rivarossi group, and some trains has been produced with a mix of wrong spare parts....)

ciao!

An undecorated Lynton & Barnstaple Baldwin 2-4-2T in 009 by Danish manufacturer Heljan. I've only given it quick test run on the Kitchenbenchbahn test track, but first impressions are very good. It's my intention to detail and finish it as a typical keiben loco, as Baldwin supplied many such engines to Japan.  As it's a small loco in 1/76 scale it won't look out of place with 1/80 scale models from Tomix, etc.

Cheers,

I'd have never expected to see those two words in relation to each other 😄

I'm not familiar with that reviewer. Do you have any Heljan models yourself to base an opinion on?

Cheers,

Mark.

Sam didn't had much luck with his Heljan purchases. I think only one worked properly. But you test ran it and seemed happy, he never tested the Lynton & Barnstaple Baldwin 2-4-2T.
