How are cyclists treated in Japan? In many parts of Europe they're a protected species, but in some parts of Australia they're a hunted species. There are parts of the world where a bicycle is regarded as a means of transport, while in others it's merely a child's toy or an exercise apparatus.

Imagine, seeing one of those in N Gauge.

 

In terms of riding in Japan. I would it's fairly safe provide you stay on the non busy roads. After all look at all those bike stalls at the train stations.
