Thanks! At the moment, I'm working hard on improving some older designs (flower pots, residential set) with improved framing and a bigger quantity of products, so for now, the Torii and Propane tanks are the best choice as of today. This week, I'll try to update all designs, so they can be ordered with minimising any transport and production issues.

Hey that's FREE shipping! Great news the US$19.99 shipping is waived! Woopee! No reasons why NOT to order!

Just made my first order of Torii Gates and Air conditioner units. Summer is coming, citizens are screaming!  :)

1st time ordering from Shapeways so unsure how the flow will be..

Thank you for ordering!

There was however a problem with the Hachiman N/H0-scale torii, as Shapeways deemed some parts too small for printing in any material. Sorry for neglecting this particular item, but I have revised it now and all should be fine for FUD and FXD. Somehow, when I uploaded the old file, it gave no issues for other materials. Now, only FUD and FXD are available as an option. However, I have also added a framework for extra structural integrity and transport stability, and if you would still like to order a print, this won't bring extra costs with it, as there is no extra transport fee at the moment.

Sorry about the trouble!

Frosted Ultra Detail and Frosted eXtreme Detail. The milky clear UV cured plastic printed either with the old or the new machines.

FUD stands for Frosted Ultra Detail, which prints at 29 micron (0.029mm) and FXD stands for Frosted Extreme Detail, which prints at 16 micron (0.016mm). DMM.make also has exact same options, but they call them Acryl Ultra Mode and Acryl Xtreme Mode respectively, and specified the detail output only recently.

It's okay to feel stupid about it. I also had no clue what it stood for until a few weeks ago. For N-scale, I'd recommend using FUD (29μm). I've done some printing in FXD (16μm) and I don't really think paying extra for that level is worth the effort. From now on, I'm going for FUD, as it's cheaper and probably faster as well.

Toni - I know nothing of this, but on the surface the 16 and 29 seem to have swapped their association in these two sentences.

Sorry, corrected for accuracy.

Also, uploaded some new designs that should have been added a while ago:

Ahah! No wonder I received this message:

Hi XXX,

Thanks again for placing an order with Shapeways. Unfortunately, we are unable to manufacture one of the products in order #1007363.

Given the nature of 3D printing, every now and then we catch designs that are too fragile to create in certain materials. Though we do our best to identify these issues as early as possible, some are only found during the manufacturing process.

You will not be charged for the following:

You can view the status of your payment on your Order Status Page.

We've already notified the designer that your product could not be manufactured, and you can also contact them using the link above. They can help resolve the issues found during the manufacturing process.

Your satisfaction is our top priority. Email us at service@shapeways.com if you would like help working with the designer or finding another unique product on Shapeways.

If you like, you can order again (there is no shipping involved, thus ordering in different stages does not influence the price). I have made a new compilation of these medium sized torii, if you like to have five different versions in the same size as well:  Torii all versions, medium set BETA; Unfortunately, the super cheap prints had to be scrapped because of size issues. I hope you understand.

Just a suggestion.  With the new boxed version, it makes it difficult to see what you are ordering.  Is there a way to remove the box, just for example purposes?

A very good and valid suggestion! I have added screenshots of renders to all the boxed items. I hope to get pictures of them soon as well, as I've ordered some test prints.

Yes of course! I want the Torii gates! No worries with getting the medium set as suggested, but can I know if the colours are all red? Another thing is with the colours, it seems to be all in pure colour (or white/ grey). Wonder if these come coloured?

A suggestion would be to add colour options to the items. I am interested in the recycling bins too but they look like they're not coloured which is something that makes me think twice as me being an absolutely poor painter...

The printed objects have no colour, as they will be printed in a transparent acrylic material. Paint has to be added after washing (there might be some residue of the wax on it) and priming the prints. There is no option to have them printed in a colour, as Shapeways does not offer this for FUD and FXD. DMM.make however does offer coloured FUD printing, but I haven't tested that option yet.

Thanks ~ I guess painting the thing red shouldn't be too difficult now, should it?  :P

Just re-ordered the 5 piece set. :)

Thanks! Painting isn't too difficult, but be sure to clean the prints well and spray primer on it before painting them. I'd also recommend to paint at least the roof of the torii (Hachiman and Myōjin) black as well for authenticity (there are of course also full-red versions). You can even decide on grey for a concrete cast style or light brown for a wooden, unpainted style.

Also, the latest test model of the Sneltram Utrecht arrived. The shell is good, but there are some serious flaws in the chassis. Mainly due to my own faults. The model is now revised, ordered anew, and should work perfectly. This test model will become a static display object.

What primer (available in Japan) would you recommend?

I use Tamiya grey primer, which is probably the most used one. It shows details better than white primer, as it is light neutral (white is light reflective and thus makes it harder to see details).

Any reason the small gates are scaled to 1.7M and not 2.0M in height?

I'm also curious about this.

Thanks. My painting skills are essentially zero (or less than zero if you look at some train "repaints" I attempted in my early teens) so need to start from the basics...

To be honest, my painting skills are painstaikingly terrible as well, so I'm hoping for high detailed full colour printing to become a thing very soon. This will solve all problems for model train printing, but will probably be expensive and slow at first: https://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/18541-shapeways-is-an-early-customer-of-the-new-hp-3d-printer.html However, with this, there are no more limitations and all the user needs to do is assembly.

An example of the first painted Sneltram prototype with my very impatient skills, badly maintained painting equipment and general laziness.

P.s. I have uploaded a new design!

Everywhere and convenient for everybody. Bureaucratic mail, holiday messages and felicitations, etc. The mail must go on!
