I've decided to go with the track plan being used nickhp for a b train layout:

KVP kindly scaled it up using Tomix track for me so that I can use normal length cars, the extra track I need has been despatched from ModelTrain plus. I will add some track so that the layout can be extended to another board at a later date. I would also like to add some viaduct track but haven't decided what yet

incidentally the track plan seems to have come from this blog:

it's well worth a look at as it has tons of interesting bits on it

Has anybody used polyurethane foam for baseboard construction? If so how did you fix tomix/kato track to the foam`?

I just cut the blue foam sheets 2x8, to fit the 1x3" structure, and wood glue them together.

Drill holes in the foam for the wiring and slip a cheap drinking straw in the hole to prevent the hole from closing. I use white glue to adhere the snap track to the foam.
