The main national news event today in Japan, especially as it's a Monday, and also many people are starting their summer holidays. https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2024/07/f2214434e689-update1-shinkansen-bullet-train-services-halted-between-tokyo-and-nagoya.html *Apparently a tractor pulling a several wagons of ballast collided head on with what appears to be a tamping machine, causing both vehicles to derail. As the derailment spot is located in a rather narrow cutting, a crane couldn't be maneuvered in to rerail the vehicles, and instead jacks were used for the process, taking extra time. *The 2 tph shuttle services were all-station stoppers, essentially Kodama services.- 2 replies

There was a train accident this morning when a train approaching the terminus of the suburban branch to Richmond did not stop in time. It hit the buffer with enough force to injure 16 people. Grade crossing accident and derailment on Nagareyama Line

Two in the passenger car were injured. -
Railway Safety Slipping? The Tokyu Toyoko line rear end crash and now this?! Apparently at 1:11 on the morning of the 23rd an out of service 10 car keihin tohoku line train appears to have struck an engineering works trolley at Kawasaki (looks from photographs like overhead line equipment). The impact overturned the first car and derailed two others. The conductor (34) and driver (25) both escaped with minor injuries. The accident has resulted in the suspension of operations between Kamata and Tsurumi stations.
