Kingmeow
Just curious what you are planning to do with the powered chassis? Link to comment

Swapped it with the E353 chassis, so the three car unit is also powered (and i don't feel like having only one powered car in a 12 car train either) Link to comment
Kingmeow
That's interesting! My 16-car N700S (Kato) has only one motor car. It works fine. But now you got me thinking maybe convert one other 16 to a motor car to have more power. I run it on train show layouts. They are not exactly the epitome of perfection. 🙂 1 Link to comment

Twin motors were only a staple of many Tomix shinkansen up to recently. Kato have started releasing motor chassis for a number of their trains that have formation splits like the E353 Azusa 9+3, 681/683 6+3 Thunderbird. I missed the boat on the 651 Super Hitachi (7+4) one to fit to the add-on set but managed to add one to a Kato 300 series shinkansen. Kato's mentality is to release a second motor unit through their Hobby Center without traction tyres so that should there be a difference in speed, the 2 are not fighting each other too much. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the difference in acceleration. Must be a great addition for inclines. 1 Link to comment
Kingmeow
Thanks interesting and clever on not having traction tires on the second motor car so they don't fight if they are slightly off. I have a Red Wing 3 car starter set. The 2-car add on also has a motor car so I was wondering what's the deal with TWO motor cars on a 5-unit trains? 🙄 Link to comment
disturbman
Maybe they didn't want to invest money in developing another non-motorized chassis? 😁 I'm being a tease. It's because the 227 do also run in 2-car or 2+2-car formations. Having the 2-car add-on motorized gives people the possibility to run these alone or with another set. Link to comment
tripel7
Some extra cars to bring my JR485 up to 12 cars, and some double track, as i usually order 20-000's 3 Link to comment
Pashina12
Just a small shipment for me - Tomix chlorine tank car, and a Baiodo signal shack kit. I wonder what the Baiodo kit will be like compared to Sankei or Iori? - haven't had time to open the kit up and inspect it yet. 1 Link to comment
Beaver
Baiodo tends to use thinner, more flexible material. Ordinary card rather than the special Sankei laserboard. This means it is easier for things to go out of shape! And the whole thing is more delicate. On the other hand, the standard of detail is higher than Sankei. For example, rooves have relief, with separately applied battens etc instead of a flat printed sheet. And signs actually have a support structure with brackets rather than just sticking a sign to the wall. The above is based on the HO kits. N versions may be simpler. 1 Link to comment

Lessigen
I did take a picture of the items I got in my first Japanese model train order back in January. Here's the first delivery of many more in the future 🙂 - KATO JR N700S 16-car set (10-1697S, 10-1698, 10-1699) - KATO JR Series 923-3000 Doctor Yellow 7-car set (10-896S and 10-897) - TOMIX JNR Series 0 16-car set (I believe this should be fairly accurate to the K formation in the early 70s, TOMIX 98731 and 98732) - 2x KATO EM13 and 2x FL12N DCC decoders I haven't put in the DCC decoders yet as it's for a future DCC conversion. DCC-EX sounds very promising with support for both DCC and DC locomotives so I'd like to look into that before I start DCC-ifying some of my sets. 5 Link to comment

Hahaha, guilty as charged. I will admit I did FOMO order it after hearing of the news to ensure I had one set in my collection, but it is good that Kato (and TOMIX for that matter) is doing another run of it. 1 Link to comment
bc6
Thats a good move yeah FOMO is an evil thing to deal with lol. Yeah its is a good thing Kato and TOMIX are doing another run so they dont have FOMO lol enjoy. 1 Link to comment
tripel7
The upgraded Kato H5 re-release from RG Rokko. Will fit nicely together with my E5 and E6, planning on running it together with the E8 in the future. Edited February 6 by tripel7 8 Link to comment
SL58654号
This is my first post of the year. It's been a while! A lot has happened along with changing work schedules, and the layout had long been relegated to the back burner - but it's not abandoned(!) - I have still been venturing to Hitoyoshi as of late to visit friends and Rail World Hitoyoshi, among my other favourite locales, and the Hitoyoshi Railway Museum - Mozoca Station 868 人吉鉄道ミュージアム「MOZOCAステーション868」. I love this charming museum as it has much to offer rail fans both young and old. Hisatsu Line Again have also held exhibitions here for supporting our cause, but my favourite aspect of the museum (designed by Eiji Mitooka) is their library containing numerous Japanese books and magazines on railways, and upstairs there is a children's library containing, among other books, several ones about a certain blue tank engine. 😄 While searching Mercari, I spotted this bundle of twelve Japanese Railway Series books for a cheap price. I went for it and intend to donate them to Mozoca Station so their children's library will not be in wanting of the Rev's original stories and their wonderful illustrations (In Japanese!) They only had two books in the series, The Three Railway Engines and Small Railway Engines thus far. 11 Link to comment
gibet_b
I just preordered the Tomix Hakone Mountain Railway Type 2000 St. Moritz and the Type 3000 too : - https://www.plazajapan.com/4543736981480/ - https://www.plazajapan.com/4543736981497/ I also ordered some Kato switches and a turnout (just verified that the motors of my "old" ones were functionnal, and one was not, but I know why). 3 Link to comment
MrLinderman
After trying out Kato I'm diving head first into trying out Tomix fine track, did another order from amiami but I think their system is having issues as I cant see my order after making it, will give it a few days before emailing them. Basic Set (A) with 225 Series Train Sidetrack Set (electronic version) (B) Rail Yard Track Set Going by Tomix's information I should be able to combine all 3 into a little layout that will fit my small home table, good to do some testing and see if I like their track and switches.
