Mr. G., did you have to buy an additional bag to take all that home like I did last month?  🤣😲🤪

Mister Gee you must have paid a fortune in baggage fees when you returned home, Nice haul properly done.

We each had a two bag allowance. My wife has a similar issue because she purchases skin care products in Tokyo, so we each pack a duffel bag for the trip in our hard cases. When packing for the return trip home, all the clothes go in the duffel bag, and all the good stuff goes in the hard cases.

We use duffel bags for our clothes for the ride home - the duffels go in the hard cases on the way to Japan. It works out well.

I'm happy, that I archived a self mixed color which matches with Katos Brown Coaches at 99%.... 🙂

Uh-oh - I knew the Hakodate Liner was going to be released but did not realize it had happened.  We rode this a couple of times in February but I have no logical modeling reason to buy one.  Though still tempted ....

Cheers,

Tony

Since when does logic come into model railroading?  🤣

You know you want one so that you can tell your model railroading friends that you rode on onet in Japan.  Bragging rights!  😁

I have bought a couple specifically because we rode them.  Since I don't have any set era/location, this is as good a 'system' as any 😀

A few items from the post and a couple carried (unknown to me) back from Japan.

Cookies in a very cool South Hokkaido KiHa 40 container.  Great detail - even the GPS antennas on the roof are depicted.  My wife got this when we were in Hakodate this past February.  Their best buy date was April but thinking they are still likely good - I will check them soon.

The calendar (despite the Dutch wording) is part of a Japanese series she found in Osaka while I was on my Joshin SKL adventure.

The book is by an author my wife follows on YouTube.  No idea what to expect from it but it will be some New Year's reading for me.

And, lastly, some buildings from Outland Models.  Jeff conveniently (?) left a link when they were on sale and the subliminal message was received and acted on.  Pretty good pricing - six kits with shipping for about US$46 - not a bad deal.  Haven't had a chance to work with them yet but looking forward to it.  I will say the packing was pretty poor - put in a plastic bag inside a padded envelope.  It was damp when I received it but the kits were okay.

Ciao,

Tony

A last order from 2024.  I had initially wanted a KiHa 32 but did not find one in my recent travels.  Then it fell off my radar until @Ekiben posted his travel pictures.  Searching for one I saw that they were no longer readily available except for high priced eBay options.  But then I noticed that HobbySearch had this as backorder with anticipated wait time of a week.  So I thought I would take a shot - if they got it, fine - if not, then I could just cancel the order.

It put it out of my mind but several weeks after I ordered it then I got a note that my order had been completed and shipped.  Took a few weeks as I had chosen a lower cost shipping option but the package showed up today.

MicroAce JR Shikoku KiHa 32 and some other on sale items I found to fill out the order:  some sort of Green Max kit assembly tool (no idea about this but only a few bucks so I figured I would check it out), another Green Max platform set as well as a Tomytec truck set and a figure set (which was all of 400 yen).

Ciao,

Good to know the hs backorder works. I’ve noticed it on a lot of items lately and wondered if they changed distributors or something to have this.

@Tony Galiani can you clarify your order?  From what I'm reading and understanding you really wanted one item which happened to be Backordered with estimated availability in approximately a week.  Taking a chance you ordered it along with other items that were in stock?  And HS held everything until that one Backordered item became available?

(Which is different than how they handle Reserved items.  They would not hold order until Reserved item comes in.)

@Kingmeow - That is correct.  I wanted the KiHa 32 and since it said backordered with one week availability, I went ahead with the order and then added in those other items.  My understanding - which I did not get to test - was that I could cancel the entire order if the backordered item turned out to be unavailable.

Hope this useful.

Congrats on your latest acquisitions @Tony Galiani. Now you really need to head back to Shikoku and ride a Kiha 32! I noticed that Greenmax assembly tool during the recent HS holiday sale and am curious to learn more about it.

A delivery which has been languishing in the "unprocessed pile" for over 4 years now, and which I likely acquired because I was after something else from the same supplier and it was going cheap and I have a corner-case "justification" for some of these (beyond the usual ones of "cheap" and "being a train"):

Moreover I travelled on a real one the other day, which was a good enough reason to dig this one out and see what's up with it. Mainly a spontaneously disassembled pantograph, which I could probably reassemble, but decided it's not worth the hassle right now because fiddly. Happily this model seems to use Tomix parts, and is now running with a Tomix C-PS27N (part number 0284) to confirm the part fits; to assuage the emotions of pantograph purists, I will acquire a Tomix C-PS27 (part number 0226), which seems to be identical to the disassembled one.

@Ekiben - It seems as the GM tool is a holder to assist in assembling and working on rail cars.  I have been caught up in a mini-layout project but plan to actually open the package today to check out the details and will post what I learn.  Also, planning/hoping for a couple of trips to Japan in 2025 and want the Yodo Line to be in my future (as well as more of Shikoku and Kyushu and ..... )

Cheers,

Tony

Got some new rolling stock. Will need to change the number of the C11 to the one that ran on the Tarumi Line but luckily the number plates came with the engine.

Picked up another E231-500 and lined everything up alongside the rest of the Yamanote Line fleet in my collection.
