ED75-775
Meanwhile, back at the ED Depot, a big awesome box of goodness has shown up! Fifteen pieces of essential reading - fourteen assorted volumes of RM Library dealing mostly with tramways and tramcars, and of course the Kato 2023 catalog. I'm not a huge fan of the revised page layout for Shinkansen and EMU stock, but that's only a minor quibble at best. It'll join the piles of catalogs beside my bed as reference material-slash-bedtime reading so I can digest at my leisure. The RM Library books on the other hand are fantastic not only for prototype information like route maps and line drawings, but 'ideas you can model'. Got Tomix stone pavement Wide Tram Track, but don't want to have a full cobblestone street? Just use it down the middle of a wider road! This seems to have been a thing in not only Tokyo but Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka too. Moving onto the model portion with one Tomytec Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau Type 2000 tramcar (complete with display base and motorized chassis), the Tomix 98445 six-car expansion set for the JR East 215 series which was described as 'junk' for wear marks on the corners of the sleeve and one rub mark at the top of the sleeve (I know, crazy right?), some spare decals for my JR West 103 series (Nara Line ver.) and my third Hanawa Line 8620. Needs a handrail on the cab fixed as it had broken in the middle, but will be an easy job with toothpick, glue and tweezers to amend when I'm in the mood to fix trains. The catalog and some un-photo'd Kato Rhaetian spare parts came from my favorite hobby shop Hokutosei, did they send me a postcard this time? Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Another calendar postcard, this time depicting a DE65 (which we all know is really just a private railway version of the JR DE10) hauling TaKi 1000 tankers somewhere. Only the one this time, but I'm happy with that. See you all next time! Alastair 3 Link to comment

I improved mine by dipping them in glue and sprinkling grass flock over them: Oh yes, they definitely need flocking. They have nice fall colours too. Curious modellers are still curious what the heck they are, oak, maple, https://www.google.com/maps/@36.3649182,140.491118,3a,75y,65.82h,91.54t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sPJ43DAy3-cor8XqIB7FfYQ!2e0!5s20111001T000000!7i13312!8i6656 Link to comment

The trees seen in Mito don't change size at all over the years of clicking through the time shots of google streetview. I'm starting to lean away from the pruning theory. Columnar Ginko trees have a similar natural shape (they grow very tall and turn bright yellow in the fall though, so these aren't ginkos. Likewise, poplars and pin oaks don't quite fit. railsquid
I am betting they are "arbor via genericus", common in the Tomii region of Japan ;). 15 hours ago, Beaver said: Aren't they keyaki (known in English as zelkova)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zelkova_serrata FWIW this is the Kato/Noch take on a keyaki: engelscher-markt-2023-01-21_02 by Rail Squid, on Flickr (catalogue number 24-806). The ones in the background are Kato 24-076, which I believe are an "arbor via genericus" variant, this time from the Sekisui region. Edited February 3, 2023 by railsquid 4 Link to comment
shadowtiger25
Well. I was supposed to get in a Kato D51 Hokkaido style today. The package tracking even says it was delivered. Can't find it anywhere and UPS was completely unhelpful. I'm rather furious RN as that particular model is hard to find and I guess that one is just gone. 200 dollars down the drain. 2 Link to comment
Kamome
Yeah UPS are not the best to deal with in my experience. Usually the sender has to raise the dispute which never made sense to me. I hope it gets sorted out for you. Link to comment
shadowtiger25
Yeah, I hope so too. I've not had much issue with UPS over the years, other than crushed packages. Usually it's FedEx I have a lot of issues with Link to comment
Wolf
Yay, first of the year RG-R package rolled in ^^ Really curious to see the Tomix Tec-Station Shiki's in action, as well as I am really happy to have some of the re-coloured DioTown office buildings ^^ 5 Link to comment
Aleks
Hiroshima Type 700, #707 tram arrived today. Delivery cost more than the tram... plus California sales tax... not a fortune, but 1999.co.jp did become cost uncompetitive. The other trams on the photo have been here for a while. bill937ca
Its a sad fact that shipping is limited to priority only these days. Link to comment
cteno4
Well all the shops have similar expensive express shipping. Sadly most all recently went up. They will vary a little shop to shop depending on their contracts with the shipping companies. jeff Link to comment
shadowtiger25
Well at least the yen is weak so there's a little bit of savings somewhere... Link to comment
cteno4
Well lots of savings as 2-3x more stuff for the buck and cheaper shipping as well! But many more things to possibly buy so that could wipe the previous two out… danger Will Robinson! danger Will Robinson! jeff Link to comment
shadowtiger25
Finally after 3 days, tons if phone calls, and getting the post master involved and was about to call the postal inspector, I got my D51 in. (Long story short it ended up with the post office when it shouldn't have) BUT! I was sent THE WRONG ONE!! listing said Kato 2016-3 Hokkaido style. What I WAS sent was a Kato 2016-4 Hokkaido "giesle erector" Type. I don't know anything about that type. I don't know if they ran on the Hokadote main line. I rather don't like the look of the smoke stack on it. I'm still PO Does anyone have info on this type that I can read and see if I can even use it or if I should just resell it and try again? Sure, the loco runs on the Hakodate main line, but more in the area of Moruran, Tomakomai, Oiwake, Iwamizawa and Takikawa. But I stored a photo of D51 953 "Giesel ejector" in the area between Kutchan and Otaru. It could be, these type of D51 runs at the north route of Hakodate main line. Link to comment

I want to model the mountain line so that is the more northern section. Still would prefer the standard smoke stack. Do you happen to know what consists it would have pulled? Seki 3000s, mixed freight, or maybe local stop passenger trains? Link to comment
