I also found 3 Tomix chiki 7000 flatbeds complete with their awful shiny disco wheels.  I want to produce a JSDF train but am having difficulty finding modern 1/144 vehicles. It looks like a company called Pit Road maybe be running some Type 16 armoured guns as well as some artillery units in Autumn of this year. I hope to find something I can use as I only found WW2 German vehicles.  I also need to find 5 more chikis to make a realistic length train. FE06CCAD-7B8F-4FFD-9901-1B7022DBEEC6.thumb.jpeg.8695643e5058ca70e289311caf5820b9.jpeg

I have some US 1/144 modern stuff (well gulf war / 2003 gulf era) that will eventually be put up for sale...  If that is useful to you...   Nice 1/144 stuff is hard to find and I would guess JSDF even harder as it is a niche.

That’s awesome @chadbag Thank you for the offer.  I’d initially like to find some JDSF vehicles as a first option. On doing more research, I discovered a company called YSK who produce 1/150 JSDF train loads, exactly for this type of train. The next challenge is trying to find who has stock of them.

Ysk does sell directly some, they approached our club, but they wanted very large orders, but that may have been for export. Hlj.com sells their stuff but usually not in stock and needs backordering. Ysk appears to be a bit of a garage business and seems to do small runs as their items will be oop for long times then pop up for a while then oop. I’ll see if I can find the contact we had with them, I sort of got the feeling it was someone working on commission with them though. Their castings are decent quality, not super great though and pretty simple in detail.

Last Thursday another package landed on my doorstep from HobbySearch: Exhibits L through O, my Kato C57 and three 32-series coaches.

So far no running time since I’ve kinda been messing with my Märklin H0 stuff (which has run out of storage space, oops...😥) but there’s another package in the works which will get me back on the N scale tracks.

While I had the loco out last night I decided to pair the whole lot up with a 35-series coach and MaNi 60 luggage van, and this was the end result. Not bad huh?

The next package will arrive hopefully tomorrow. Coming all the way from Mandarake in Nakano - left on Friday and already in NZ by Saturday! - is a MicroAce A8363 Keihan 800-series. Now hold on a minute, before someone points Justice Rivet-counter my way, there is a reason to my buying this train, and I’ll be revealing that when it arrives. See you all then!

Well... that didn't take long. After getting my first model train, the Tomytec Tsugaru 21 Series DMU, I really wanted to run it so I looked into getting a motor for it, and then tracks, and then a power pack, etc.

I tried to keep it to the bare minimum to run my first model train but of course I got a couple of extras. The Tomix 251 Super View Odoriko I just had to get as it sports one of my favorite train designs. I also got a couple of Pro Hobby minis for a potential future project and a book on making small, desktop-sized layouts which I've been particularly interested in after seeing Kato's Mini Diorama format.

I didn't want to flood this thread with pictures so I posted some more over at my semi-hidden blog: https://ameblo.jp/howlingoh/entry-12692626892.html

Looks like a nice book. Might need to grab one too.  I like the sub heading, 30cm x 30cm railway scenery starting at 10,000yen.

The rest of my Chiki flats arrived giving me 8. I will also get some toras at a later date once i can establish if and how to get some JSDF loads. It would be nice to find some Komatsu LAVs but the Shapeways options seem pretty low res once printed.

The other challenge is that the rail loads that come with the wagons also double as the weight so I might need to look at adding weight somewhere underneath.

I think this is going to be a slow burner as a lot of what i need is either difficult to come by or out of print. In the meantime, the wagons need some added detailing so there is lots to do while waiting on load options.

Some articles here for those looking into making something similar.

I had a package from RG-Rokko recently

image.thumb.png.19e54d4ede57bc4ce77b1d3183b2c852.png

Despite what the box says it is not a box of Tomix Green Grass (enough to fill a real-sized lawn maybe!)

Instead it contained a lot of track for a second loop and a larger station with bay platforms, and a couple of new trains:

The trains are a Kato 4-car223 series and the Kato (Roundhouse=Red Box?) 6 car Kyoto area Green 117 Series

Got a package from RG Rokko today. Superb packaging with all the little bits inside cases and all the bubble wraps around boxes. Bonus bag was already claimed by the cat 🙂 Second picture shows the single cars (together with the cars delivered earlier), third picture is content of Kato Hanawa Line Freight Set and the last is content of Tomix TohokuLine Freight Set. Also got few rails and turnouts (not pictured). This is my second order from RGR and will definitely use them again, the service is really great.

OK, so another package arrived yesterday from Mandarake in Nakano - just in time for a snap three-day lockdown. Oh well, may as well enjoy some time off work and a new train...

Way back in 2019, on my last day in Kyoto I decided to take a trip over the hill from Kyoto to Ōtsu to see the Keihan Keishin Line running down the middle of the street to Biwako-Hamaōtsu Station. In contrast to the rest of my trip it was raining and not overly warm (plus I misjudged how far I'd have to go, oops!), but I got there in the end, rode that stretch of street track, and took some photos before hightailing it back to the hotel where I think I then played for a little with the N-scale stuff I'd brought at Popondetta. Here's one of my photos from the trip with a Keihan 800-series heading downhill toward Biwako:IMG_3639.thumb.JPG.45b396dc2f7183233becf0b88e45f419.JPG

Some time later and back home in New Zealand I came across a MicroAce A8363 800-series for sale at Mandarake Nakano. Looking into it one day I discovered it was the same number as that train I had photographed heading down the street in Ōtsu. So, there was my reason to buy it! After some humming and hawing and saving up I finally brought it for ¥11,000. Purchased on a Thursday night, two days later it's in Auckland, then three days later it finally lands on my desk.

I don't remember that particular section of street track in Ōtsu from the IRL photo but I'm sure I would have walked past that building on my way to the JR station for the trip home. The listing claimed there may have been some damage to the case, well, actually I haven't found any yet! I haven't tested it (yet) but I'm not rushing, I have time to do so yet. Oh, and I still have other trains to test too!

And here it is! Mmm, shiny new train! This will make an interesting comparison to my Tomix 103!

@ED75-775 So it was you who bought that Keihan 800 series set! 😆 I've been eyeing that for my next Mandarake package as well, but you clearly deserve it given your experience with the prototype! Can't wait to find out how you would recreate that iconic street running scene in miniature.

Meant to be! Good to have something solid for the rationalization!

I'm displeased. I will have to speak to Tokonami san at Rail Rokko regarding the lack of a cute cat in my order.

Wow wide range there 6-14 weeks.

jeff

The stuff that shipped in early May was probably in the Golden Week backlog.
