arkh
Just got in my first model train, the Tsugaru 21 Series DMU by Tomytec. Not sure if this is the start of a huge collection but, realistically, it probably is, haha. 7 Link to comment
disturbman
At least you are realist, yes, it will be the start of a huge collection. That’s a rather unusual first train, both in terms of company, a minor third sector company, and manufacturer, most people start with a Kato or a Tomix. What made you chose this train? arkh
I had been watching a lot of NHK documentaries and had seen this train a few times randomly in different ones. I really like the idea of a single-car diesel train running around through the countryside - though, to be fair, it does run with multiple cars in some scenarios. Definitely very random but the way this train looks and how it operates made me really want to get it specifically as my first model. I'm already looking at motorizing it which will lead to wanting to run it, of course, so we'll see how long I go before I have a massive collection, haha. 2 Link to comment

Wait until you discover you probably can find a way to add directional lighting. katoftw
The NDC does from Tomytec are a pain to run multi unit. The couplers are dummies and there is not enough room between the bogies and couplers. TN couplers have to be cut up loosing the spring that centers it. And a third party front skirt. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10414164 1 Link to comment
shiniji
I have summarized the last 2 months :D I order too much :/ starting with the old deliveries, by the way three deliveries come from the bargain sale from HS the magazines are highly recommended! Bargain Sale ! 😄 On ebay I was able to bid for a complete series 80 from Kato for around 120 € 😄 15 Link to comment

So that was where the 223 series went ~~ Great catch there! The Ben'etsu Monogatari set is one of my fav, and my only Steam locomotive i have... I love that pen from Rail Rokko too, writes so super well!! 1 Link to comment

It's only too much if you say it is... Very nice haul indeed. Meanwhile, Exhibits L through O are on the boat from Tokyo to New Zealand: a Kato C57 and three 32-series coaches. Hopefully they land this week, it'll give me a good excuse to pull my N-scale stuff out and give it a run. It hasn't been run since I got my 103 series, instead I've been giving my Märklin H0 collection some love, so I've got some shiny new N-scale stuff that I haven't run yet to play with. On the preorder front, I have added two more to the list: the Kato 8046-1 Yo 5000 guard's van and the MicroAce A2285 KiHa 07-0 DMU set. The KiHa 07 was an impulse one, I've got photos of the KiHa 07 41 from my visit to the Kyushu Railway Museum and I've watched a few chapter playthroughs of the Maitetsu visual novel on YouTube. And before anyone asks, I am strictly not there for anything else other than the trains because that's all I'm interested in. Link to comment

JR 500系
Havent been posting some hual in a while so here goes... First up, some bargains caught on Ami, the 125 series is mighty nice! I initially only managed to clinch the add-on set which has NO directional lights... and i was quite depressed, until the motor car set came on sale as well! Nice!!! Now all i did was to take out one side of the directional lighting from the motor car unit and transfer it to the one without, and viloa, a 2-car set with directional lightings on both end cars! (But not in the middle connecting portion though...) Caught this cute little fellow too from the bargains bin ~~ Next is a pre-order from Rail Rokko, lovely packing as usual! Makes me guilty just to open the boxes! Gotta LOVE this bag!!!! That's even protection in the bag! One can never get enough of the face on the 313s, even if they are kihas! One last box from Ami, which contained 2 items that was held for shipping since COVID started last year... The colourful E130s! Hope i dont pick up a new hobby.... i'm keeping my fingers crossed..... The box is so nicely wrapped up in plastic wrap i cant bear to unwrap.... Kiha 131 + 132, this set has connecting cars so only 2 directional lighting units on the end cars... Beautiful colour! This is the Kiha E130, it has 2 cab cars with directional lighting units on both of them, which means there are 4! Love this!! I'm sure GM would have omitted the connecting cabs for cost cutting, so MA has credit for doing this! This just SCREAMS TN couplers required.... simply ugly.... 6 Link to comment
disturbman
Gosh, guys, you need to stop. This is way too much beautiful goodies. @JR 500系I thought you had run out of space? Did you rent out a storage unit somewhere in Singapore to store your buys? Greenmax can cheapen out. At least MA always come with all details attached, black wheels and full directional lighting for a similar or slightly cheaper price point. I believe Greenmax sells everything else as assy parts, if you want to upgrade your trains further. Though, I recently had issues with a few, older MA sets, where the piece of plastic allowing you to turn on/off directional lighting would just set itself to off. I had to remove them. 1 Link to comment

disturbman
That one shelf might be able to hold Casco mini-bookcases. They are really good to put away 6 to 7 cars. I have been using them for my Tomix Kiha 40s, organizing them by lines, companies or geographic areas depending on need. You should see if you can't use them. I really like them. Otherwise, you can always but the case lying down and on top of each others. Link to comment

I'm surprised in one freight car set is space for two sets 😱 Dear @shiniji Please save some trains for us. But seriously, those Chichibu limestone trains look lovely. I had a small haul today. Finally completed my DD54 designs with the illusive blue train late version. Despite them being similar they all have slightly different details to each other. Left to right. First locomotive - early version - middle version - blue train version I also found 3 Tomix chiki 7000 flatbeds complete with their awful shiny disco wheels. I want to produce a JSDF train but am having difficulty finding modern 1/144 vehicles. It looks like a company called Pit Road maybe be running some Type 16 armoured guns as well as some artillery units in Autumn of this year. I hope to find something I can use as I only found WW2 German vehicles. I also need to find 5 more chikis to make a realistic length train. Edited August 14, 2021 by Kamome 4 Link to comment
cteno4
Kamome, there were some chaps on shapeways that had a lot of jsdf vehicle models uploaded to shapeways but not for sale. Might check and ping them, they may let you print them. Some were very detailed, but no guarantee they will print well until tested. jeff 1 Link to comment
