What did you order or the post deliver? (Japanese N Gauge)

Das Steinkopf

My September/October preorder from AmAmi arrived today via DHL, 70 hours from pick up to delivery is pretty damn good, especially with delivery being made on a Sunday. There was supposed to be a Keihan Keishin 800 Series in new livery but it has been delayed yet again, however work on Kamisakaemachi is to begin again soon with the delivery of the Shrine Accessory set that will be modified to become part of Myokozanhoncho Ji. It was nice to finally get some new JRF containers especially since I didn’t have any 20D’s in my listing, the Yo 8000 is a model that I never contemplated buying before as JRF doesn’t use them on freight trains anymore, they do however still see use in small quantities on special freight and it will be a nice companion for my ShiKi 1000.

Keeping with the Eizan theme, Amazon Japan brought me something...

ki1.thumb.jpg.9da309c02b01c6ff5b0873819dd95b3c.jpg

I always wondered how they made trains. Now I know that they grow them somehow. Once you peel it open, there's a train inside!

Still on the fence about the green one since it's technically a duplicate but I agree, these little guys look and run great. More from Amazon, a DD51 bonanza. I thought the children's book would be easy-ish to read but I'm still pretty much illiterate...the 20D containers came with my HS order for October.

Finally some ebay randomness, a pair of 10th anniversary MA TaKis. Wish they had grey trucks though...

Check the pantographs on your 787. There was a QC notification on Kato’s website and Ami Ami also contacted me. Apparently it was more common in the 4 car set but as it’s the same part, best to check. Mine had no issues but there was obviously enough of an issue for Kato to notify customers.

Thanks for the advice.

These look okay to me.

Another parcel from Ami, with nothing much except more buses ~  😛

And another bus case as the buses are running out of houses ~

The trucks are pretty nice! And that Enoden duct tape is pretty interesting...

Now this is interesting... I got the same collection 24 case, and just realise there was a printing error on my first case; the one that came out with the collection 24!

It says 18 buses, the newer one says 16

20191121_182515.thumb.jpg.c3787afa7c02861a72551e780107b804.jpg

When actually, it can only hold 16 buses ...

Pretty strange!

A MicroAce "Ginga" express set (A8556) taking us back to the Tokaido Line in 1967.

MicroAce EF58-75 by Rail Squid, on Flickr

I acquired this set mainly for the eclectic range of coaches, the EF58 which comes with it is OK but needs mechanical attention and suffers from too much visible space beneath the cab ends. Mind you it was dirt cheap, mainly because one of the coaches was missing a pair of wheels, which could be worked around by fitting the brown SuYu car with Kato spoked wheelsets (prototypical for that vehicle, though they don't really show behind the bogie frames) and transferring one of the spare wheelsets to the other coach.

This is the part that drives me nuts (not necessarily in a bad way). Trains in the US in the same shape would be maybe $5 off if that. Used stuff still sells for almost the same as new even if it's old. Everyone thinks they have a gold mine even though their selling old Life-Like locos with cracking plastic gears.

exactly the same thing happens here on our national auction site. Always seem to catch new people in the hobby out.

I suspect it's a combination of factors:

- very large market with a lot of products floating about

- a tendency to put a premium on "mint condition" and unless something is highly sought-after, any imperfections (even if it's just the packaging) reduce the value

- older MicroAce stuff, unless it's something rare which no-one else has produced since, is not very highly regarded (though if you know what you're looking for and are willing to work around minor issues it can be very good value)

I see that happening with some non-Japanese stuff here - like a 2,000 yen asking price for an old Lima British Mk1 coach, or bidders pushing something up above the price you could order the same thing new direct from overseas...

another recent addition. A free Tomytec Portram with motor chassis from a friend. He paid $12 for it on an auction site as it was listed in the wrong category and knew I would like it.

Just got the shipment notification from amiami, my twilight mizukazi is on the way!  I was inpatient and upgraded to DHL shipping, but it was a surprisingly cheap upgrade from SAL.

Lucky find at the local bookoff!  The chain in California only seems to carry anime figures, used electronics and music normally, this must have gotten shipped over by mistake.  Anyone know the product number, and if I can get detail parts for it?  I'd love to get a chassis to power the model too.

Probably a company only release with the Fuji Q Highlands logo on the box.

Nothing on the box sides regards TM-xx motor unit?

Unfortunately not, there is the tomytec logo and website but no part number or information about additional parts I can find.
