JR 500系
Nice find Toni! It's great to linger in Yahoo Auctions! Quite a fan of that 50050 too, but it was too costly for me and I really didn't want to go hardcore on Tobu... Aside, something very interesting to me came up on Ami sales section, and I grabbed it: http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?scode=RAIL-21891 Getting to love these orange Kintetsu more and more, and this was a good bargain, being a motor car and all. Like this, I can connect up my Orange Kintetsu weird formations, like 22600 + 12200 + 30000 ExVista ! :) 1 Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Its a favorite of mine too. But I went with the B Train Shorty version. Its working its way up to the top of my list. :) It's simple and effective. Also boosting my favourite colour :D Nice find Toni! It's great to linger in Yahoo Auctions! Quite a fan of that 50050 too, but it was too costly for me and I really didn't want to go hardcore on Tobu... The good thing about the 50000 Series is that they also run on the Tokyo Metro, Tōkyū and Yokohama Mirai 21 network (in both the 50050 and 50070 type variations). I'm kind of developing a thing for the Tōkyū Den'entoshi line, so that's also why I went for a 50050 type, rather than a 50070 type (which runs on the Tōyoko line). However, in the sense of running together with Sōtetsu, the 50070 would have been a better choice, as the Tōyoko line will be connected to the Sōtetsu network in a few years. Link to comment
Welshbloke
Yesterday's arrival - a Kato 153 Series dating from 1979! Still runs superbly, I replaced a couple of missing traction tyres with slices of heat shrink sleeving and fitted modern tightlock couplers in place of the rapidos. It's even a perfect colour match with the dummy MoHA 152/153 pair I already had, and will be running with them for a more accurate fornation. Edited December 16, 2016 by Welshbloke 8 Link to comment
railsquid
I have yet to buy anything from Kato no matter how old which hasn't worked. Meanwhile, not a train but a book - 40 years of Tomix. tomix-40th-anniversary-booklet by Rail Squid, on Flickr 2 Link to comment
Yavianice
I have yet to buy anything from Kato no matter how old which hasn't worked. Funny you should mention that, I received the E3 Toreiyu Shinkansen today brand new from the store and it was broken (dead engine). And the E7 I bought before new from a different retailer had a broken front light. Both KATO. Edited December 16, 2016 by Yavianice Link to comment

And the E7 I bought before new from a different retailer had a broken front light. Both KATO. Gee you guys are not having much luck with your KATO sets, meanwhile I am doing well. But right at the moment having my second 300-0系 Shinkansen (TOMIX) being shipped out so I'm most likely get it before the Christmas deadline and have just ordered the TOMIX 0-2000系Shinkansen. Which means I'm building a big fleet of JNR/JR East and JR West Shinkansen fleet. (both KATO and TOMIX sets) I've only had two early problems with my KATO shinkansens. 1st was the polarity of the motors were going against each other (easy wiring fix) and the second was the E5 derailments near the motor unit while running a 10 car/17 car unit. Other than that no other issues at all. 1 Link to comment
Suica
It's just something small today. A friend from Japan sent me underfloor parts and interior decals for my Kato Sunrise Express in return for some Roco spares I sent him. It seems like these interior decal sheets are rather hard to come by these days? 2 Link to comment

I presume you heat the heat shrink to grab the wheel! Sounds like a great idea! Maybe I should clarify - Kato second stuff, provided purchased in from a reliable seller in working order, seems to be as tough as nails. Mind you none of my new stuff has had any problems, apart from the first DE10 I ever bought, which I had to send back. Link to comment

serotta1972
Doesn't matter what the train looks like - if it has any orange on it I'm usually interested! I like it, simple and elegant looking train. Edited December 17, 2016 by serotta1972 1 Link to comment
serotta1972
Loathed by many, I really like this train. The Tōbu 50050 Type. Even before I moved to Japan, I had a liking for this sub-version of the Tōbu 50000 Series. Luckily for me, they very frequently run nearby on the Tōkyū Den'entoshi line, so I have the opportunity to ride these as well when I travel on the Tōkyū network. I found this Greenmax in almost pristine condition on Yahoo! Auctions this week. It seems not to have been run (if at all), has no missing parts, and stickers are intact. The price has only been a fraction of the original, so I'm very happy with this one! If it had been a dog, I might have considered a repaint, but this is too perfect to be ruined by me. I'm now considering an add-on set as well, although it will only be ran as a 4-car set at home. Yes, it's a mass-produced aluminium can with overall mediocre merits, but damn do I like it! This model is also more correct than the MicroAce version :) Doesn't matter what the train looks like - if it has any orange on it I'm usually interested! I like it, simple and elegant looking train. 3 Link to comment
locidm
I got my first American train this week, only because it's Christmas time. While the loco is nice, the whole set is rather humongous. Are American trains that much bigger than Japanese ones or is this scaled differently? Link to comment

Are American trains that much bigger than Japanese ones or is this scaled differently? Even worse, the American train is probably scale 1/160, while your Japanese trains (except for any 1/160 scale Shinkansen) are scale 1/150. This means that the American train in prototype is relatively even a bit larger than it is now. American trains just have a really large loading gauge. This Wikipedia article may be an interesting read for you. 2 Link to comment

nah00
Small package from HS. Because you can never have enough, 4 Koki 106s and a Koki 107. Also 2 Wara-1s for my JNR steam freight. 4 Link to comment
Welshbloke
Ordered another dummy 3 car 165 Series, as it seems to be a case of now or never. That'll take my full set up to 12 cars, or various combinations with KuMoNis and similar. The new 165s look good but the couplers won't work with my existing stock. Slightly worried by Kato having swapped to the coupler design used on the KuMoHa 11 on their new EMU models, hopefully they won't stop making the older couplers as the new one doesn't seem to be able to fit a standard Rapido pocket. Here you can get exclusive models (B-Train, MicroAce, Tomytec, etc.) with a fixed price. 1 Link to comment
