JR 500系
Uh oh, I'm delving into JR West Limited Express territory. But they're so sleek and clean looking! Needed something contemporary for a little change of pace. :) IMG_2170.JPG Welcome! Is that the 287 Kuroshio AKA Rice cooker face? :) Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Finally got my commercial version of the Big Henschel in! This is for a 6.5mm gauge SeaRails PowerMAX! and fits the frame perfectly! I've disassembled the kit and have it now simmering in IPA (isopropyl alcohol, not the glorious beer type) and will be infused with liquid CA (super glue) to increase the bodystrength during and after assembly. This material (acrylic polymer) is porous, so this is the best way to improve the quality. Later this coming week, I hope to receive a test print of newly designed freight cars in SLT printed polyamide. A material which is rough, but cheap. IMO a good alternative for building up a reasonable fleet quickly. I'll also order a new batch of minuscule magnets for the couplers to go with these cars, if the printing results are satisfactory. 1 Link to comment
railsquid
The post delivered this British Mk2 coach the other day: I don't normally post non-Japanese stuff here, but as keen observers will note, this coach from another forum is actually on tour around the world and has made it to Japan. 4 Link to comment
Claude_Dreyfus
Nice to see it turn up in the Far East 'squid... I had this being top and tailed by a pair of DD51s on Kanjiyama last September. I seem to remember the local railfans getting quite excited then as well! :D Link to comment

Very cool! Maybe we need an around the world tour of a JNS train! Then do decals on the side for the world tour list like a rock band tour! Anyone interested? I could donate an appropriate train. That takes me back - I have an old Farish Network SouthEast MK2 which I bought almost twenty years ago, it has had new sides thanks to Electra Railway Graphics (who I suspect made the ones in your photo?) I converted it into the lone MK2D first open that carried NSE livery, as it was originally a MK2C FO in the same scheme. Strangest part? I managed to get another one in the same livery brand new old stock from the same shop a couple of years ago! Unfortunately it was the last one he had. As for what I've ordered, four boxes of Tomix pantographs from Modeltrainplus and a Tomytec TM-18 from Plaza Japan. That's enough to fit all my remaining Tomytecs with scale pantographs and motorise the yellow 105 Series. I'll take a photo of the latest additions when the pantographs arrive. Link to comment
serotta1972
Welcome! Is that the 287 Kuroshio AKA Rice cooker face? :) It is the the 287 with the blue stripe. Come to think of it, yes it does look like a rice cooker. Is that what it is affectionately known or you just made that up? I recall some other train being called a microwave face too. Hmmm, maybe that's my next focus - trains that look like kitchen appliances. Now I want the one with a red stripe too. 1 Link to comment

railsquid
Goddammit, the EF58s are breeding. This is what happens after a glass of wine or two when you check Yahoo Auctions for bids ending soon... 11 Link to comment
beakaboy
I love the colour schemes! Mine is the brown eye (Kiwi slang) model. I actually hated the look of these and the other earlier electrics from photos I had seen, but once I had seen one running on a local layout , I was impressed with all those wheels and how smooth they are. Now I find the early electrics more interesting than the later models. 1 Link to comment
railsquid
Yup, they definitely have a nice livery. Very smooth runners too, not at all bad for about 3,000 yen each (albeit unboxed). Though I must say I was disappointed in the Kato EF57, which has the same wheel pattern but the leading trucks derail very easily as they don't seem to have enough weight (the MicroAce EF57 doesn't have that issue). I got hooked on older electrics after picking up an Endo EF57 for 1,000 (!) yen (evidently from old unsold stock), it must be about 40 years old and is slightly overscale and the roof is arching slightly (mazak rot?), but it oozes character. Only problem is with the brown livery is that it's tricky to photograph. Link to comment

railsquid
Where did you get them from? I have been looking all over. One from Ebay Germany (the most expensive one), the others from Yahoo Auctions Japan, where there are some 2nd hand European bargains to be had :D 1 Link to comment
JR 500系
A parcel was dropped off recently with more reinforcements for buses and trucks ~ And something that is NOT N scale, HO scale or rather not even a train related... Diver City Odaiba comes into mind, so I thought Takahashi town should have their own version, in gold! :) Edited March 11, 2016 by JR 500系 2 Link to comment
