What did you order or the post deliver? (Japanese N Gauge)

Btw, I read a blog talking about the downside of Buyee.. Don't know if this is relevant or not, but perhaps it can be additional reference when ordering thru Buyee..

http://myfigurecollection.net/blog/6794

Interesting...  There are some incorrect facts in that blog post.  To combine stuff together does not cost what the person said.

I cannot comment on the other stuff regard funding other than I prefer the way buyee do it as I don't have to load up funds into an account, then when i don't win a auction, then money is still in the account and cannot be used for anything else.  Jauce do this and am not a fan.

Personally though considering the 200 yen bank transfer fee and the 500 yen or 10% user fee (whichever is higher).  I wouldn't be buying 8 1500-2000 yen items.  The costs would just build up big time.  Seems more like poor research into the fees and relized what it cost after multiple buys.

My last 2 purchases were some trains.  1200 yen to ems both to me.  Paid 500 yen to combine and the new combined package was 1500 yen to me.

edit//  Just relized that the blog is 2 years old. haha

I looked into that post and it scared me but I didn't have any issues with my first transaction and it arrived in about a week's time. I don't think EMS is that expensive especially compared to other countries in Europe. It does depend on the weight of the item too I guess.

Hello

I have a vast experience with Buyee, taking into account that, except the first train I bought (Kato E26 Cassiopeia Basic Set, at Imon Models in Omotesando in my last visit to Tokyo) all my other trains were acquired through that service.

In 2014 I begun using Buyee, and only available shipment was EMS. Shipment for single items (a standard Kato/Tomix/MA case) was usually 3300-3700 yen, including the domestic shipment in Japan and the EMS to my country (Spain). As for non-shipment fees, they charge 200 yen every purchase, and 10% of the final auction price (if item is over 5000 yen) or 500 yen otherwise. So to make things clear, as an example, final price of an auction that ended in 7750 yen was 12000. I was happy to accept those expenses, because the availability of japanese models locally is non-existant.... until I got heavy hammered by customs. Of 6 purchases I made, 5 (yes, FIVE) were caught by customs. In my country that means 17-20 euro fee + 21% VAT based on the price of the item. So that 7750 yen item costed me 12000 yen + 30 euro.

So I decided my almost new addiction to japanese models will be put in sleep mode, because I was paying in fees/shipment/customs DOUBLE the final auction price of the items. But they wanted my money (and make angry my gf), so they included other shipment options, including SAL... Oh, that surely changed things. Now shipment is 2000 yen, and it seems customs dont bother checking SAL, because of 7 shipments not a single one was caught!

Apart from that, I havent had any kind of problem with them, they are fast to receive, process and forward the items. And yahoo auctions have SO many amazing and tempting models... who can resist?

hokutosei.

I would look at more traditional sources like modeltrainsplus, loco one hobby, and hobby search. For currently stocked stuff you can get good prices and Sal shipping w.o all the fees!

Modeltrainplus also has a personal shopping and auction services that are pretty cheap and simple along with a lot of personal service!

Cheers

I've actually found that Amazon (of all people!) are listing a good selection of the Bandai B Train range from marketplace sellers. Prices are variable but there are some bargains.

Still waiting for the Euroliner EF64/DD51, the Hokutosei A and C sets (ED79 and five coaches in total) and a Kintetsu 12200 A and B sets (four car EMU spread over two packs) via Amazon. Also have a pack of trailer chassis (first of four or five I need to order) and a motor for the DD51 on the way.

I got a package from Hobby Search on Friday containing two Popondetta cement tank cars, a set of DioTown town accessories, a Kato station entrance and one-sided platform end, and a Unitrak 3-way extension cord.

WA's exhibition provided some wins.  But I quickly start with some Sakyo second handies.  An EF64 and an EF81 respectively to kick off.

My first purchase was an interesting one, as I admired the idea behind it.  A modular rolling road 12 axle support set from DCCConcepts, which can be used on three different track gauges as necessary.  It is being modelled by the lovely Kawa-san.

Lastly, a bit of a bargain which involved a fair bit of negotiation and generally hanging around the Stanbridges stand until they told me to go away, a pair of Seibu E851s as made by MA.

Ah, here's the clever bit, it is HO.  ;)  I have 2 EF510s in HO and 5 of them in N.  :)

Bonus of these in HO?  Massively affordable in comparison to other Japan outline HO locos.  $160 each at the time, might be even cheaper now at a guess?

I've just received all the goodies I managed to bag in the HS bargain sale which happened recently, it includes the following.

1. Tomix EF66 - 2164

2. Tomix DD51 - 2216, I hadn't realised that this is the high grade version, it is very detailed.

3. Greenmax - 405, Seibu 101 4 car kit.

4. Greenmax - 405/1 Seibu 101 2 car add-on kit.

5. Bogies and Pantographs for the Greenmax kit.

I managed to get a power chassis for the kit from PlazaJapan.

I'm looking forward to making the kit as this is a first for me.

Interesting photo in the background - a NSWGR engine at a WA exhibition. I like the EF510, too! :)

Cheers,

Well spotted.  I had it displayed on Kevin Bradney's stand, who is one of those weird Sydney folks in a previous life.  His love of 3801 is nigh on unnatural.

I've been concentrating on British and German stuff recently (before the Yen collapse completely ;) ) but was unable to resist this:

to add to my small-but-growing pool of Thomas-related items which will hopefully one day become birthday/Christmas presents for a little boy (who already likes watching little trains run around Daddy's layout).

Two packages arrived today, the first one from Hobby Search containing a Kato bus terminal. The other one was from Model Train Plus and contained a Tomix JNR guard's van ( caboose to us Yanks. )

Ding Dong!

The sound I love most again!

The postman dropped off an EMS parcel, from our good friend at Loco1!

Containing the brand new Tomix E4 MAX New Colour 8-cars, Tomix 165 series Moonlight Echigo, Tomix E233-0 Chuo line full formation and 2 more Tomytec bus collection "All island' series number 23 & 24.

Now I need to find a urethane for 8-cars to cut up to place all 8-cars into a Tomix case for the E4 Max, and a 10-car urethane for placing all the cars of the E233-0 together... Separate cases take up too much space, and the spare cases can be used to house other trains... ~

Yes, i had to look up the 165 series train. With this paint, it ran as a non sleeper night train to compete with highway buses, so seats only. Later it became seasonal. It's a very nice and rare paint.

165 (thought it was a 169) and 233 look great.  Never rode the Moonlight Echigo, after a few trips on the Moonlight Nagara I couldn't work up the will to do it :grin.
