railsquid
a "subway train"!? (see below) http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/two-swiss-passenger-trains-collide-leaving-passengers-injured/article23111157/ Probably a horrendous mistranslation of "S-Bahn". stevenh
Seems they were heading NE and crossing over this bridge? https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Rafz,+Switzerland/@47.6055841,8.5467563,192m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x479079dc5ec7b3b1:0xc8dc034d417f8d95 All lines converge to one... I imagine they hit pretty much head-to-head on the point (quite a long one) and then both ploughed forward? Luckily none dropped to the roadway below. bikkuri bahn
As usual the English language sources are completely worthless regarding details (and now this event is completely out of the news cycle in the Anglophone world). According to a Swiss source, the driver trainee and supervisor on the S-Bahn train may have misread a starting signal, reading a green aspect on an adjacent track when the one governing their route was red. Coupled with the signal layout at this station (I'm not sure if I read this correctly but)...when a train reverses at this station, there is a gap until the first signal where there is no ATS in operation. http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/zuerich/moegliche-ursache-fuer-crash-in-rafz-zh-hat-der-lokfuehrer-das-signal-verwechselt-id3507636.html Link to comment
