Eurostar25
Hi guys Has anyone modelled a oil refinery or loading platform for their tank cars? I've done a lot of searching online but it seems only tomytec make this kit "TomyTec-229322 United Oil Co. Complete Refinery Complex" which is huge and priced accordingly... A search of other US manufacturers leads me to a walthers kit but this seems a hard one to track down https://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3219 Aside from these main two most others have been kitbashed examples I would be keen to see any depot/loading facilities/storage tanks that have been used Regards Link to comment
kvp
Actually faller makes 4 different types (1 spherical, 2 standing and 1 horizontal) oil and gas storage tank kits in N scale. Some of them can be found for example on ebay. Link to comment
cteno4
You can buy all the parts to the tomytec refinery separately as well to make your own setup. It does add up as refineries are dense with stuff when you pack them into a layout -- in real life they spread out the dense bits with fire breaks and retaining pools, but few have room for that! The only othe big refinery besides the Walters and the tomytec AFAIK is the old plastics one, but that was a box of just stock tube and ibeam and a few spheres and was basically a total scratch build from plans. Several different storage tanks out there in different shapes and eras as kvp noted. Tomytec and Model power (and I think one of the euro companies) have produced small tank car loading platforms. The best stuff I have seen has been a couple of larger platform kits from etched brass by small U.S. companies. I'll see if I can dig up any old links in the computer later. Kinda have to roll your own to have what features and footprint you want. I think there was a thread or two on refineries here on the forum not too long ago. http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/5153-suggestions-for-area-around-refinery/?hl=refinery http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/5254-lighting-a-refinery/?hl=refinery http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/3634-tomytec-refinery/?hl=refinery Btw, save all those plastic kit moulding sprews as they make great pipes, especially the elbows! Can't have enough pipes in a refinery. Cheers Jeff Edited February 5, 2015 by cteno4 Link to comment
POMU
Hi Eurostar25 Plastruct has the #K-8 Petro Refinery still listed on their website http://plastruct.com/ which is equivalent to the Tomytec. Also here is a Walthers Cornerstone kit on ebay Us and the seller ships internationally. http://www.ebay.com/itm/161584206792?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Plastruct also has an international dealers list on their website. Open the catalog pdf file and all the info is there, except price. Pomu Edited February 6, 2015 by POMU Link to comment
cteno4
beware though the plastruct refinery is just a box of stock styrene parts (ie strip, rod, tubing, I beam and some half sphere shells, some ladders, etc) and some general plans -- its not a moulded finished model like tomytec, modelpower, walthers or others. its basically a scratch build from some plans. so unless you have done some scratch building in the past it may be a bit of a shock! i think it was retailing for like $40 years ago when i got one on ebay for like $20. cheers jeff Link to comment
POMU
Jeff You are correct - it is a kit like the Walthers Cornerstone and unpainted. I think it retails now somewhere around $70.00 Good addition with the North Field refinery to make a very nice complex. Pomu Link to comment
katoftw
I would just buy the tomytec pieces you need seperately. Link to comment
