jdnewemail
Hello Has anyone found a site on-line that has models for download that may work for or included items for our hobby. Japanese Style Buildings, Windows, Doors etc. Thanks John Link to comment
cteno4
John, There been a few threads on this in the scenery forum mainly. There are a few options out there to buy PDF for papercraft structures and some free ones as well. Sometimes small house developers make them of their houses for free. Pm me I've collected some of the free stuff out there (links tend to go poof rather quickly.) Some of the treads http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/2693-leaf-building-from-paper-structure/ http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/5438-papercraft-models/ http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/4783-papercraft-vending-machines/ http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/2706-paper-structure-direct-oders-now-possible/ There are some issues discussed with them in N scale. Mardon has built some nice ones and also kitbash end stuff from Japanese and British prints. Cheers, Jeff 1 Link to comment
The Next Station Is...
I don't have any experience as a customer but it may be worthwhile searching on shapeways.com 3D printing service - I know there is some model railway stuff on there. Link to comment
cteno4
yeah doors, windows and details could be reasonable on shapeways. there are a number of japanese folks doing stuff on shapeways, one guy has a lot of very nice jsdf equipment there but not for sale unfortunately. ive not noticed structure details there, but its growing so fast these days i dont keep up so much with new stuff there anymore. ive had good experience with shapeways making stuff and purchasing from other sellers on shapeways. jeff Link to comment
jdnewemail
Hi Thanks for the responses, but I am looking for something like thingiverse. Where people post items they create and share them with others. My printer is on order and would like something to try when it arrives. I will have to work on learning Sketchup to create some of my own. I understand the printer will not have great resolution for N Scale but I will like to start small. Maybe a differnt window or door to customize a model. So I can have a one of a kind item. Could we use this site to post such items? John Link to comment
macdon
I was looking into HOn30 stuff and shapeways does have a lot to offer both N and HO scale. You can try and contact the designer of each product and ask if they could either give or sell you their files. There might be also some sites/forums that discusses 3D printing and im sure some are freeware. I also wanted to have my own 3D printer ............. someday. Mardon Link to comment
cteno4
there are a number of sites out there to share 3d files or even buy/sell them as well. i poked around last year a lot in this to research some ideas i had for objects. it does take time to find stuff, then it needs to be modified, then you need to do the stuff needed for printing as well, so for simple things it might be better to start from scratch actually. biggest investment in 3d printing (unless you already know how to do it) is learning the CAD and getting good and fast at it and then learning the little tricks on the printing as well to avoid the gotchas. cheers jeff Link to comment
tossedman
This might be a place to start looking. Let us know what you find. I know that thingiverse has some N scale buildings that you are able to customize. Cheers eh, Todd Link to comment
