Heavy Snow in Japan and Tokyo

Recommended Posts

Snowed quite a bit in Tokyo yesterday. Had to walk to the station and to two of my student's homes, rather than going by bike. Loved the snow, and if not for the lessons, would have been shooting snow trains yesterday. will shoot some today.

3 dead, 494 injured as heavy snow hits most of Japan

Won't be anything for bikkuribahn but how are the other guys in Japan doing?

Best wishes,

Grant

I do know that many trains all over Japan have been delayed or cancelled due to the very heavy snows. In fact, on Google Maps there was even for a short while a warning from Tobu Railways of serious delays from Tobu Utsunomiya Station due to the heavy snowfall.

It was really a snowfall.  Actually never seen Tokyo having snowfall almost 30 centimeters.

I have found some photo circulating on twitter.
Look how Keisei removes snow if they don't have snow plow loco or vehicle.  They just use their train to remove snow from the track...

As Chiba area got more snow, Keisei line operation was stopped I think until afternoon of Feb. 9...

I took this photo on Saturday at Shin-Koshigaya station.
Not only with snow but also with some car trouble, Tobu Nikko line operation was suspended.  So Express train which were supposed to go to Minami-Kurihashi was changed to terminate at Koshigaya.  This is very unusual case that Tobu do this kind of arrangement.

There is no facility to change track to opposite direction at Koshigaya station, this train will be forwarded to Kita-Koshigaya to change track for the other direction.
