Watched today NHK World Japan on German TV (I can reach that Channel since a local system arrangements few weeks ago); there is another Show called "Railway Journeys".

That's a great show although the presenters can come accross a bit weird at times.     Usually comes out on Fridays from what I've found and you can find the new episodes on NHK's Youtube channel.     It's the episdoe on the Sth Hokkaido line that got me into Japanese railways!

A Single Line to the Tip of Hokkaido

 

Travel the Soya Line through the northern part of the island to Wakkanai, Japan's northernmost station. Disused train lines and stations remain along the way. Head to Cape Soya and gaze at Sakhalin.
