Statistics can be tricky things, but Chinese railways are still relatively safe, especially compared to driving anywhere in the world.

I believe the accident in 2011 served as a wake up call to the Chinese.  The boasting ceased and appropriate safety measures were introduced.

 

Of course, the copy is never as good as the original ... ;)
