I have the Tomix Dr. Yellow and would like for it to be dcc. I had the power car open and was wondering how I would install a decoder and what decoder to use for this.

Hello Mr sirryche,

So sorry that no one has answered your question over the weekend.

You will notice that the Tomix product has power coupler.  That is to say, the power is picked up from all wheel of all car and transferred through the coupler.  You need to isolate the motor from the power and then install a decoder normally.

Old thread on topic: http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/1243-tomix-dr-yellow-decoder-install/  Unfortunately the images are missing.  Perhaps Martijn can fix the problem

The pictures are the first 9 pictures in the gallery at http://www.jnsforum.com/community/gallery/album/14-decoder-installs/

Note though, that this install is for the older Dr. Yellow, the one without the power coupler But I do believe the install itself would be pretty much the same regardless of coupler type, unless Tomix did a complete retooling for the newer version.

Hello Mr Martijn,

New model is 92429.  It has power coupler and flywheel motor.  Released in May 2012 and December 2012.

Old model is 92227.  No power coupler and no flywheel motor.  Released in December 2002, April 2004, and May 2005.

Installation of decoder is same.  Please remember to add insulation tape to motor contacts after soldering.
