Wow, depressing, but I guess effective for trying to get the funding needed at the time. I do remember those days as a kid when I was just getting bing into model railroading and it seemed the real ones were disintegrating.

Just seeing those once proud names on the side of freight cars (PRR, NY Central) does make one sad. And all that "mud-pump" on the deferred maintenance track!  To think that the older employees knew the railroad (especially the fellow at the end- I wonder if he was a Pennsy or Central man) at its prime, and experience its subsequent run-down, must have been morale-sapping.

Hi Mudkip, I was just thinking it's been a long time since you've posted!

 

I'm still around, was catsitting for a friend and that required all the trains be put away for a couple months.
